    Machining Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is increasingly popular due to its chemical resistance, low friction, and high-temperature stability. These properties make PTFE crucial to industries that need fine surface finishes, such as aerospace, biomedical devices, and electronics. However, achieving practical surface quality remains challenging, particularly in robotic machining processes. This research examines the impact of spindle speed on the surface roughness of PTFE during robotic milling operation using KUKA KR120 R2700. Spindle speed was selected as the primary process parameter, and the experimental trials were conducted at four spindle speed levels: 4,500 RPM, 9,000 RPM, 13,500 RPM, and 18,000 RPM. The average roughness (Ra), root mean square roughness (Rq), and maximum peak-to-valley roughness (Rz) were measured through profilometry. Concurrently, a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) detected surface features with microscopic imperfections. The findings demonstrate a clear trend: a significant decrease in surface roughness values with a very high spindle speed, wherein 18,000 RPM provided the best results regarding the least surface defects and finer scratch lines. Moreover, the Ra value was the most significant in the present study and validated the trend between the spindle speed and surface finish quality. This research focuses on a new direction in enhancing the machinability of PTFE materials using a robotic milling technique in which spindle speed is optimised to improve the surface finish required in many industries. The research offers essential information for manufacturers desiring greater accuracy and control in PTFE processing and expands the knowledge base of robotic manufacturing technology for polymeric material. This research establishes the scene to address concerns about using robotic systems to improve surface finishes in various engineering applications

    Islamisation or Malaynisation? : a study on the role of Islamic law in the economic development of Malaysia : 1969-1993

    The thesis examines the role of Islam and Shariah (Islamic law) in the economic development of Malaysia and it rejects the assumption that Islam and Shariah inhibit economic development. In contemporary Malaysia, there are two 'policies' adopted by the Government. Firstly, 'Islamisation' which is for the advancement of Islamic law and institution building. Secondly, 'Malaynisation' which promotes the socio-economic development of the Malay ethnic group. The study adopts a holistic approach which covers the political economy of law in Malaysia. The thesis explores the relationship between the two policies considering in particular whether they are essentially the same. The study covers the pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial periods although the focus is on the post-1969 period which involved the application of the New Economic Policy (NEP). The NEP was a pro-Malay Policy to rectif,' the economic imbalance of the Malays vis-à-vis other communities. Therefore, the focus of this thesis is on the Malay- Muslim population of Peninsular Malaysia who form the bulk of the Bumiputera (indigenous people). Two Bum iputera and Islamic organisations, Bank Islam (BIIMB) and Tabung Haji (TH) as well as the Bumiputera unit trust scheme, Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) are used as the case studies. Their establishment, structure and organisation are examined. There is a specific focus on the extent to which they are examples of Islamisation or Malaynisation. It is clear that in contemporary Malaysia, Islam and Shariah are being used by the Government to promote economic development. Islamic values have been used to further Malay economic participation in the commercial sector. As a consequence, the economic position of many Malay-Muslims has greatly improved. However, the Government position is questioned by the Islamic opposition who say that the Islamisation policy in many respects is either contrary to Islam or merely cosmetic, and want a 'pure' Islamic approach. The thesis therefore involves a critical examination of the perspectives of both the Government and the Islamic opposition

    The impact of age on mortality in the intensive care unit: a retrospective cohort study in Malaysia

    Background: Age is a significant consideration for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. However, the reported associations between increasing age and mortality vary across studies, and data in the local context of Malaysia are lacking. The objective of the present study was to determine the impact of increasing age on ICU mortality. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of ICU patients was conducted between January 2020 and November 2023 at a university hospital in Malaysia. Patients were classified into two categories according to age (years) and into four groups according to National Library of Medicine Medical Subject Headings (MeSH): young adult (19–24), adult (25–44), middle age (45–64), and elderly (≥65). The Cochran-Armitage test for trend and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to evaluate the impact of increasing age on ICU mortality. Results: A total of 1,661 patients was analyzed. The Cochran-Armitage test showed a significant positive association between ICU mortality rate and age group (Z=−4.86, P<0.01) or MeSH category (Z=−5.36, P<0.01). After adjusting for other confounders, the strongest predictor for ICU mortality in the Cox proportional hazards regression analyses was age, with the elderly age group having the highest adjusted hazard ratio of 4.777 (95% CI, 1.128–20.231; P=0.03). Conclusions: Age had a significant impact on ICU mortality in our cohort of critically ill patients

    This study is carried out to explore the method of selecting a lecturer with the most effective teaching skill. The method that has been identified is Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The selection by students using this method is more reliable compared to the existing one, which uses the average score given by students. This is because Fuzzy AHP takes into account the relative comparison between lecturers as well as includes the degree of importance given by students in each of the factors that contribute to effective teaching. Fuzzy numbers are used in the pair wise comparison in order to alleviate the problem of inflexibility in the process of choosing the lecturer with the most effective teaching skil
