Flipped leadership: transparency, vision, accountability, and resources

Muhammed ŞahinCaroline Fell Kurban (MEF Author)As a founding rector of a new institution establishing itself as a fully Flipped university, both the university and I found ourselves in a unique position. Instead of a challenging, change-management process whereby buy in was needed from each stakeholder, all the staff, instructors, and students that started at MEF had come knowing that the education would be Flipped and had agreed to be a part of this approach. From a leadership point of view, this was indeed a privileged position to be in. However, it does not mean that there were not some teething problems along the way. Three main issues arose during the first year including; instructors’ expectations and the clarity of the MEF vision; issues related to the physical infrastructure; as well as questions about assessment.WOS:000414788100008Book Citation Index- Social Sciences and HumanitiesArticle; Book ChapterKasımYÖK - 2016-1

A genome-wide analysis of cardiac lesions of pigs that die during transport: Is heart failure of in-transit-loss pigs associated with a heritable cardiomyopathy?

    No full text
While heart failure is a primary cause of death for many in-transit-loss (ITL) pigs, the underlying cause of these deaths is not known. Cardiomyopathies are considered a common cause of heart failure in humans and often have a genetic component. The objective of this study was to determine if genes associated with cardiomyopathies could be identified in ITL pigs. Samples from the hearts of pigs that died during transport to an abattoir in Ontario, Canada were collected and genotyped along with samples from pigs that did not die during transport (ILT hearts: n = 149; non-ITL/control hearts: n = 387). Genome-wide analyses were carried out on each of the determined phenotypes (gross cardiac lesions) using a medium density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip and 500 kb windows/regions for analysis, with 250 kb regions of overlap. The distribution derived by a multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis of all phenotypes demonstrated a lack of complete separation between phenotypes of affected and unaffected animals, which made diagnosis difficult. Although genetic differences were small, a few genes associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVM) were identified. In addition, multiple genes associated with cardiac arrhythmias and ventricular hypertrophy were identified that can possibly result in heart failure. The results of this preliminary study did not provide convincing evidence that a single, heritable cardiomyopathy is the cause of heart failure in ITL pigs

Tefsirde Hz. Yapısalcılık, Tefsir, Sîret-nüzûl ilişkisi, MUHAMMAD ABED AL-JABRE'S APPROACH TO SIRAH-REVELATION RELATIONSHIP IN QURANIC EXEGESIS Muhammad Abid Al-Jabre is a well-known thinker in the Arab world as well as in Turkey. He is famous for his original studies on Islamic thought. Al-Jabre’s last work, Fehmu’l-Qur’âni’l-Hakîm, is a three-volume exegesis of the Quran and deserves academic investigation for both its structure and content. The author uses the structuralist method; and in this exegesis his approach to Sirah-Revelation relationship has a unique place in both classical and contemporary approaches of tafseer. It has been a well-trodden path to utilize the explanatory value of the events in the Prophet’s life in Quranic exegesis; however, as far as we are concerned, no mufassir has so far placed the sirah in the center of his or her tafseer and interpret Quran in its light. This thesis has a number of aims. First, a general outline of Al-Jabre’s thought is presented, followed by an overview of the impact of his thought in the Islamic world. Second, we evaluated his tafseer, discussing the problem of developing an exegetical method on the axis of sirah-revelation relationship. We then conclude with a thorough discussion of the possibility, importance, logical results, probable disadvantages and benefits of developing such an exegetical approach. Key Words: Al-Jabre, Structuralism, Quranic Exegesis, “Coherency Between Sirah and Nüzûl
