The steady two-dimensional stagnation point flow of a non-Newtonian Walters' B' fluid with slip is studied. The fluid impinges on the wall either orthogonally or obliquely. A finite difference technique is employed to obtain solutions

Genome-wide landscape of alternative splicing events in brachypodium distachyon

Recently, Brachypodium distachyon has emerged as a model plant for studying monocot grasses and cereal crops. Using assembled expressed transcript sequences and subsequent mapping to the corresponding genome, we identified 1219 alternative splicing (AS) events spanning across 2021 putatively assembled transcripts generated from 941 genes. Approximately, 6.3% of expressed genes are alternatively spliced in B. distachyon. We observed that a majority of the identified AS events were related to retained introns (55.5%), followed by alternative acceptor sites (16.7%).We also observed a low percentage of exon skipping (5.0%) and alternative donor site events (8.8%). The 'complex event' that consists of a combination of two or more basic splicing events accounted for ~14.0%. Comparative AS transcript analysis revealed 163 and 39 homologous pairs between B. distachyon and Oryza sativa and between B. distachyon and Arabidopsis thaliana, respectively. In all, we found 16 AS transcripts to be conserved in all 3 species. AS events and related putative assembled transcripts annotation can be systematically browsed at Plant Alternative Splicing Database (http://proteomics.ysu.edu/altsplice/plant/). © The Author 2012

Walters B’ hybrid nanofluid flow with Marangoni convection

The proposed investigation is based on the applications of Walters B′ viscoelastic model for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) free convection of hybridised fluid flow over a vertically expanding surface embedding in porous substances. The traditional base fluid water is comprised of Al2O3 and Cu nanoparticles for the preparation of hybrid nanofluid and the system is analyzed under the influence of Marangoni surface constraints. Further, the influence of radiating heat, Joule and Darcy dissipation along with non-uniform heat source energies the transport phenomena. These assumptions are particularly relevant in advanced cooling systems, energy-efficient devices, material processing, etc. For the memory effects in polymer-based fluid, the Walters B′ viscoelastic model is applied to examine the non-Newtonian behavior of the hybrid nanofluid. The porous medium enhances the permeability of the fluid while the magnetic field regulates fluid motion and is useful in magnetic drug targeting and geothermal energy extraction. The standard conservation equations are transmuted into an ordinary set of equations implementing similarity functions and then a numerical approach is implemented for the solution. In particular case exact solution for the momentum profile is obtained and compared with earlier investigation. The impact of distinct factors affecting the heat transfer rate is presented graphically and described briefly. The findings demonstrate that incorporating composite nanoparticles greatly improves thermal performance, with Marangoni convection and dissipation playing key roles in the heat transfer process. Moreover, the heat transport rate enhances for the inclusion of the thermal radiation

Inquiry of entropy generation in stratified Walters’ B nanofluid with swimming gyrotactic microorganisms

    No full text
This article focuses on the study of Walters B nanofluid, under the impact of Joule heating, inclined magnetic field, viscous dissipation, swimming microorganisms, and stratification flowing past a horizontal cylindrical surface. The mathematical model is reduced to higher-order ordinary differential equations using Von Neumann similarity transformations. To obtain analytical solutions, the Optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM) has been applied to the mathematical form. The analysis of skin friction, heat transfer rates and mass transfer rates of nanoparticles as well as swimming microorganisms is done using variation in different parameters and these results are portrayed using contour plots. Entropy is studied through dimensionless entropy generation parameter NG and Bejan number Be. The internal molecular stability is seen to reduce for temperature difference parameter Ω‾. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Chemical reaction and heat generation/absorption aspects in flow of Walters-B nanofluid with Cattaneo-Christov double-diffusion

    No full text
Main objective of present article is to investigate the Cattaneo-Christov double-diffusion theory for the flow of Walters-B nanofluid over an impermeable stretching surface. Cattaneo-Christov double-diffusion definitions are utilized in the energy and concentration expressions. The Cattaneo-Christov diffusion model is introduced in describing the temperature and concentration diffusions with thermal and solutal relaxation times respectively. Heat and mass transfer analysis is carried out with the effects of heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction. Nanofluid model includes Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Dimensional nonlinear equations of momentum, energy and concentration are converted into dimensionless systems by invoking appropriate variables. The series solutions are obtained through homotopy analysis method (HAM). Effect of sundry variables on the velocity, temperature and nanoparticles concentration are scrutinized graphically. Numerical values of skin friction coefficients are computed and analyzed. Temperature field and layer thickness are quite reverse for heat generation/absorption. Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
