Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Dolomitization of Wabamun Limestones at Tangent Field, Northwestern Alberta

formed by a structural trap, created by the downthrown block
of a Graben, combined with porosity created by the
dolomitization of Wabamun limestone. The dolomitization fluids have migrated from the
underlying Winterburn formation, via fractures, up into the
Wabamun. Well 6-32-80-23W5 is the focus of this study as it
contains a complete sequence from dolomite at the base of
the Wabamun up through a transition to limestones at the top
of the Wabamun. Cathodoluminescence and petrographic
analyses of the dolomites and the transition from dolomite
to limestone has revealed 5 dolomite types; diffuse
microcrystalline dolomite, mosaic dolomite with associated
porosity, and without associated porosity, dolomite which
replaces calcite fracture fill and dolomite related to
pressure solution. These analyses have also revealed the
following paragentic sequence for the five dolomite types
1) microcrystalline dolomite 2) dolomite related to pressure
solution 3) dolomite replacement of calcite fracture fill

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Sedimentology of the Viking Formation at Crystal Field, Alberta
Title: Sedimentology of the Viking Formation at Crystal Field, Alberta, Author: Elizabeth J. Barr, Location: ThodeThe Crystal field is found in townships 45 and 46 in the
ranges 3 and 4WS. The field differs from other Viking fields
by being smaller, thicker, elongate in a north-south
direction, and is conglomeratic. Cross-sections of the well logs and lithologs show four
extensively bioturbated, sandier-upward cycles that occur on
a regional scale in the study area. The cyclic nature of
these sediments may be due to distant, unknown aggrading
shorefaces, possibly associated with minor relative sea
level fluctuations. At Crystal, the cycles are cut out at
various levels by an asymmetrical erosion surface. In the
west-central area of the field there are two possible
surfaces that may be equivalent to the main erosion surface.
All of the erosion surfaces have been interpreted as being
bases of incised shorefaces. The shoreface movement may be
due to fluctuations in the relative sea level. In the western side of the field, lithologs show the sand
above these erosion surfaces as being predominantly
laminated with a low-angle of inclination and/or laminated
that grades into bioturbated tops. Toward the eastern side
of the field, the sand gradually becomes more cross-bedded
and pebble-rich. The sediment above the erosion surfaces is
interpreted as preserved upper to mid shoreface deposits. The top of the Viking at Crystal may be another erosion

Rouble, Location: ThodeThe 10 to 30m thick coarsening-upward sandbody successions of Falher Members A and B of the Lower Cretaceous (Early Albian) Spirit River Formation in northwestern Alberta are each split by a mudstone tongue at the seaward end. This mudstone tongue can be correlated landward with an abrupt grain size change within the main sandbody succession, where cross-bedded sandstones or conglomerate overlie swaley cross-stratified sandstones. The grain size change can be correlated with the top of a regionally extensive coal landward of the sandbody. The mudstone tongue and grain size change represent a marine flooding surface that splits each existing Falher member into two separate allostratigraphic units. Each of the four allomembers now recognized (A1, A2, B1, B2) was deposited as a barrier-strandplain system. The transgressive systems tract is preserved as barrier sands, transgressive successions consisting of coastal plain to lagoonal deposits, and transgressive lag deposits. The lagoonal and lag deposits were partially
preserved seaward of the barrier during shoreface retreat. The transgressive systems tract also includes an estuary fill and onlapping transgressive offshore storm deposits. The highstand systems tract comprises a shoreface succession which prograded as a strandplain formed of sandy and gravelly beach ridges. Backspit lagoons are locally encased in the shoreface sands. In most allomembers, the beach conglomerate trends parallel to the barrier, on the seaward side. In existing Falher member B, a lowstand systems tract is represented by a south-north trending channel incision (Allomember B3) that cuts into
shoreface deposits of Allomembers B1 and B2. This channel incision was
probably feeding a lowstand wedge to the north. Each transgressive-regressive allomember has an estimated duration of
approximately 305,500 years. The changes in relative sea level during
