Dean Roberts, age 15, 1946.
Photo of Dean Roberts at age 15 (1946) modelling "the latest ski fashion" at Lead Draw, Idaho." "Here you have the latest ski fashion for the year 1946. Please note the tapered trousers fitting snugly into the boot uppers. And the boots, themselves, are a product of the latest technology of the times, with full leather uppers, square hole at the toe that fits securely into the toe irons and the sturdy laces, which when pulled tightly, provides all the ankle support anyone could possibly wish. Just imagine the wonder edge control provided by these boots. [P] Also, please note the striped shirt over which our model wears a plaid shirt-jacket, which not only provides warmth, but allows for necessary freedom of movement. And, of course, you can\u27t overlook the necessary scarf needed for such outings in the snow. All this topped off by a visored ski cap. [P] Our model is also displaying the very latest in ski equipment. Skis by Northland of solid ridge top hickory with "Lettner" steel edges securely screwed to the bottom edges. And of course, they would not be complete without adjustable "Dovre" cables to hold the heel of the boot securely in place. [P] And not to be overlooked is the professional manner that these ski togs are displayed by our model, Mr. Dean Roberts. Very cool the way he hooks his thumb in the pants pocket. Don\u27t you think so?. Author: Kenneth Oscar (Buss) Robert

Human factors design methods review
This report describes the human factors (HF) design methods review that was conducted as part of work package 1.3. 2-Design methods review, and is part of work package 1,'Human Factors Integration for C4i Systems'. The overall aim of work package 1.3. 2 was to review and evaluate HF methods and techniques suitable for use in the design lifecycle for C4I systems. This document is intended to act as a guide for HF practitioners in the selection and use of appropriate HF techniques
The construction of Karen Karnak: The multi-author-function
This thesis is situated within the comparatively recent developments of Web 2.0 and the emergence of interactive WikiMedia, and explores the mode of authorship within a Read/Write culture compared to that of a Read/Only tradition. The hypothesis of this study is that the role of the audience has become merged with the author, and as such, represents new functions and attributes, distinct from a more conventional concept of authorship, in which the roles of audience and author are more separate. Read/Write and participatory culture, as defined by this study, is focused on collaboration, and includes the influences of D.I.Y. culture, Open-Source practices and the production of text by multiple authors. Multi-authorship presents a re-thinking of several concepts which support the notion of the individual author, since the focus of multi-authorship is not on attribution and ownership of a finished text, but on the continued malleability of a text. Modes of multi-authorship, demonstrated in the use of the pseudonyms Alan Smithee and Karen Eliot, represent declarative authors whose names signify multiple origins, whilst concurrently indicating a distinct body of work. The function of these names form an important context to this study, since primary research involves the construction of an experimental mode of multi-authorship utilising WikiMedia technology and the interaction of thirty nine participants, who are invited to create a body of work under the collective pseudonym Karen Karnak. The data generated by this experiment is analysed using aspects of Michel Foucault's author-function to identify and determine power structures inherent in the WikiMedia context. The interplay of power structures, including concepts such as identity, ownership and the body of work, affect the resulting mode of authorship and contribute to the construction of Karen Karnak, suggesting further areas of research into the emerging multi-author
The importance of the mode of transport in self-drive tourism
[Extract] The diversity of self-drive tourism markets is apparent in the different experiences they seek, and the different types of people who undertake those
experiences. The first part of this book included a number of dimensions of this - differences based on the country of origin and the sort of trips that the geography, history and culture make possible, and differences based on
the destination and the sort of trip that its geography, infrastructure and amenity suggest. This geographic theme is picked up again later in the book (Carson, this volume, Chapter 25). Diversity can also come from the demographic
characteristics of travellers, and various chapters discuss diversity as a sub-theme. This second part of the book is most interested in how the type of vehicle makes a difference to the type of self-drive trip. The vehicle can often be associated with specific markets - Hardy and
Gretzel's RVers tend to be older couples (Hardy and Gretzel, this volume, Chapter 15), while Walker's motorcyclists have traditionally been young males (Walker, this volume, Chapter 12). But the demographics can change
over time, and Walker comments on the ageing of the motorcycle touring market. The vehicle can sometimes be associated with multiple markets. The four-wheel-drive and SUV vehicles at the centre of research by Taylor
and Carson (this volume, Chapter 17), and Prideaux and Coghlan (this volume, Chapter 18) cater for old and young markets as well as families. Irrespective of the demographics, the vehicles allow for, and inspire, different
types of trips. They demand different levels and types of infrastructure, they allow different lengths of trips, they suit different types of destinations, they imply different travel party sizes and so on. The aim of this chapter is to
briefly describe the importance of the type of vehicle to understanding the self-drive tourism market as an introduction to the proceeding chapters, which then link specific vehicle types to emerging markets and global trends

A DC circuit breaker for an electric vehicle battery pack
Electric vehicle battery packs require DC circuit breakers for safety. These must break thousands of Amps DC at hundreds of Volts. The Sunshark solar racing car has a 140V 17Ahr battery box which needs such a breaker. A static design using 200V MOSFETs to interrupt the fault current is presented. The design specification, decisions and proposed solution circuit are given. The current sensing technique,MOSFET overvoltage protection, and DC bus capacitor precharging scheme are specific focuses. Simulation results are presented and discussed
Faculty Perception of Bullying in Schools of Nursing
Aims: This paper is a report of a study of conducted to determine the prevalence of bullying among faculty members in Schools or Colleges of Nursing.
Background: The issue of bullying of nursing faculty in the academic setting is of interest in terms of recruitment, retention, job satisfaction, and the overall quality of the work environment.
Method: This cross-sectional, descriptive study of faculty in three northeastern states of the U.S. was carried out in 2010. The Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised was used to survey faculty members in Schools of Nursing who award a baccalaureate degree (or higher) in nursing.
Results: 473 faculty members met the inclusion criteria and responded to the NAQ-R. An iterative exploratory principal components analysis with orthogonal rotation was performed. Thirteen of the original 22 items were retained to measure the experiences of negative acts in the nursing faculty workplaces. The mean total score for the 13 item instrument was 17.90 (SD 6.07) and ranged from 13 to 56. The resulting components structure produced three clear subscales identifying the experiences of: Verbal abuse, Physical abuse, and Devaluing. The revised 13 item instrument had a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.88. Experiences of bullying were reported in 169 of the 473 (36%) respondents. A significant correlation was found between meeting frequency and the report of bullying (r = 0.18, p ≤ 0.001). Administrators and senior faculty were more likely than expected to be the perpetrators of bullying.
Discussion: If the leaders are identified as bullies, the environment cannot be perceived as supportive and healthy. These unhealthy environments may have serious consequences related to retaining nursing faculty.Peer reviewe
