Ethical and Legal Issues in Medical Tourism
In these days, millions of people, especially from developed countries, are travelling to other countries for medical treatment. This development is called ‘medical tourism’. Medical tourism is one of the lucrative industries that has expanded rapidly worldwide, including Malaysia. The development is due to factors such as seeking quality medical treatment at lower costs. However, there are certain ethical and legal issues arising from the development of the industry. These issues should be addressed because it may affect the development of medical tourism in the future. Lack of legal recourse and lack of regulation are some examples of legal issues that are discussed in this paper. The ethical issues include the quality of care for treatment provided by medical providers, lack of follow-up care for patients at their home countries, access to care for the local people at destination countries and the issue that arises from the treatment that is illegal in patients’ home countries. The objective of this article is to examine these ethical and legal issues in order to assist the growth of the industry and the country’s economy in the future. This research is based on analysis of primary and secondary sources such as legislation, textbooks, and journal articles that relates to the medical tourism and issues arising from its development. The article concludes that these ethical and legal issues can be resolved by having a uniform medical tourism regulation.
The Role of Corporate Governance in Achieving SDGs: Is Malaysia Ready?
Globally, sustainable development goals (SDGs) have increased significant importance as a result of the uncertain environmental and economic conditions that require the attention of researchers. Sustainability is a component of corporate governance, which traditionally addresses ethical values, accountability, and transparency to reduce risk, corruption, and mismanagement. Sustainability is critical to a company's long-term performance. However, questions remain about whether the current legal framework is adequate for addressing environmental protection and the SOGs agenda. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of environmental and social responsibilities, as well as corporate governance, on the achievement of SOGs by Malaysian companies
Development of knowledge in records management by using bibliometric analysis on records management journal / Kamarul Azwan Azman, Mohd Nizam Yunus and Hanis Diyana Kamarudin
A bibliometric analysis of 235 articles published in Records Management Journal's 15 years of publication, ranging from 1994-2009 was carried out. The range of articles published per volume is between 9 and 17. Most papers (80%) are single authored or 187 authors out of a total of 235 authors. Elizabeth Shepherd, the most prolific author contributed 7 papers. 174 (59.2%) of the authors are geographically affiliated to United Kingdom. The most productive institution/organization is University of Northumbria, United Kingdom with 24 out of 187 authors. Subject analysis indicates that "Systems Design and Implementation" outnumbered other subjects with 15.8% (37) out of total of 235 articles. Most of the cited publications (97.7%) are in English Language. The majority of articles are research papers contributing 78 articles (33.2%)
Exploring Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education Learning and Teaching (PGDHELT) As an Academic Confirmation Practice in Universiti Utara Malaysia
Sulh And Mediation: How Both Differ To Each Other
Sulh has been practiced in the Shariah courts all over Malaysia. It is one of the methods of dispute resolution which is available in Islam. In Malaysia, sulh is only applicable in certain matters, such as matrimonial and religious disputes. Unlike sulh, mediation is applicable in wider matters, not only limited to family issues, but including others such as financial problems and community problems. Therefore, the question arises as to what are the differences between sulh and mediation. The main objective of the paper is to examine the question by looking at the definition, concept, and procedures of both practice to promote the application of both procedures in Malaysia. The research adopts the doctrinal legal research, based on analysis of primary and secondary sources such as the Quran, hadith, statute, and journal articles
UTP Attendance System on Mobile Phone
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS is a private university in Malaysia that offer higher-level education to produce well-rounded graduate. Hence, in order to reach the objective as well as to ensure that all students get benefits from all the knowledge provided here, students are compulsory to attend at least 80 percent (80%) of the class if the students want to pass in every course offered. Nevertheless, since UTP was establish from 1997, manual attendance tracking was implemented until now and authors found that there are a lot of disadvantages of that.
Therefore, the objective of study is to replace the manual system of tracking student’s attendance with fully automate student attendance system. Other than that, the other objective of project is to use the new technology as the main core in the system. The target technology for this project is Bluetooth technology and Android system.
Some of the problems that have been discovered by author are students tend to cheat by sign on behalf of their absent friends and disruption of lecture session while distribution of attendance sheet from one to another. In order to solve the problem, author has come out with a proposed idea to create a fully automate system that able to track the attendance system just by using Bluetooth sensor connected to lecturer smartphone. Some scopes that need to cover by author to build the system are the interaction between student and lecturer. Other scope is system is developing for mobile apps and Bluetooth technology. Besides, Bluetooth technology also need for more enhancements to connect and send data from non-Android to Android devices. Moreover, the system must have the security and safety features that able to prevent student to commit any cheating
Study of a New Air Intake System for a Single Cylinder, Fuel Injection, 4 stroke Go-Kart engine
This report basically discusses the research done on target of designing a new air intake manifold for a Go-Kart engine. Currently the engine has difficulty in controlling fuel consumption and also emission. The objective of the research is to study a proper new air intake manifold for the conversion of a 200cc single cylinder engine from carburetor to electronic fuel injection. The study concentrates on flow characteristics in the new design of an air intake manifold that can house the electronic fuel injector as well as achieving a considerable output performance. In the content, there is the specification of the K200 engine. The report also tells on the background study conducted on obtaining enough information on the engine’s behavior. A study was done on the influence of the intake manifold geometry on the performance of engine at wide range of RPM. The study was mainly to see the characteristics of air flow to the combustion chamber through an intake manifold. The study involves modeling a real combustion chamber using CATIA V5, 3D meshing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling. To further strengthen the study, a flow bench experiment was conducted to validate the same condition as in the CFD. The desired results from both tests are the mass flow rate of air at specific point of the air path. Based on the preliminary results, the author proposed a design which utilizes a bell mouth and diffuser shape intake manifold design. The results of the CFD for the new design showed an increase in the mass flow rate of air entering the combustion chamber
Lactic acid production from Kenaf fibre
Lactic acid is a useful polymer that can be applied in various purposes such as preservative, acidulant,
and flavor in food, textile, and pharmaceutical industries, and a raw material for lactate ester, propylene
gylcol, 2,3-pentanedione, propanoic acid, acrylic acid, acetalaldehyde, and dilactide in chemical
industries. In polylactic acid production, the common starch or cellulose sources which basically used are
from food crops sources where their prices are so high resulted in competition with other fields’
demands. As if the raw materials are considerably high, it may result in high cost production of polylactic\ud
acid. Indeed, the fermentation technique also have to ensure contribute to less environment effect since it
involved chemical solution. Therefore, in this study kenaf fibre waste has offers cost effective of raw
material and this kenaf fibre has been treated for Lactobacillus rhamnosus fermentation to produce
polylactic acid. The chemical solution used in this study also considered less harm to environment since
they are type of organic acid. Hence, this study tried to produce polylactic acid (PLA) that offers cost
effective and environmentally friendly. Moreover, the successful obtaining PLA then had been compared
to the existing commercial PLA in terms of their properties
