    Seaweed is one of the leading types of aquaculture commodities with competitive market economic value in both domestic and export markets. This is partly because in addition to functioning as food, it is also due to the diversification of seaweed products that have. Wael Hamlet is one of the hamlets located in Piru Village, West Seram District. The majority of people in Wael Hamlet work as fishermen and cultivators, both fish farming and seaweed cultivation. Wael Hamlet is one of the E. Cottoni producing areas in West Seram Regency. The existing condition of seaweed cultivation in Wael Hamlet is currently experiencing a decline and even the fishermen do not produce seaweed. The conclusion of this activity is that the eucheuma cotonii seaweed cultivation business in the hamlet of Wael, West Seram Regency has decreased production due to disease attacks and pests in the form of baronagn fish and also turtles

    Maluku waters have the potential to be developed for seaweed cultivation because they are qualified with good water quality. Good water quality for seaweed cultivation includes clear water, free from pollution, bottom waters that are dominated by a mixture of coral and sand which are the main requirements in the development of seaweed aquaculture. The waters of Wael Hamlet have the potential for the development of seaweed cultivation, but the high level of human activity in utilizing the waters of Wael Hamlet results in polluting and degrading water quality. This study aims to measure the quality of seaweed cultivation waters in Wael Hamlet. This research was conducted in the seaweed cultivation area of Wael Hamlet, West Seram Regency in July-August 2023 for 45 days. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative using 5 sampling points of observation for 7 repetitions in the observation area of Dusun Wael. The results showed water quality parameters include temperature ranging from 21-33oC, salinity 30-34 ppt, brightness 3-6 m, DO 3.62-7.34 mg/l, pH 7.25-7.31, phosphate 0-0.15 mg/l, nitrate 0-0.01 mg/l. Based on the results of the study, water quality parameters are still in accordance with quality standards for the growth and development of seaweed cultivation in Wael Hamlet.   ABTSRAK Perairan Maluku memiliki potensi yang dapat dikembangkan untuk usaha budidaya rumput laut karena memenuhi syarat dengan kualitas air yang baik. Kualitas air yang baik untuk budidaya rumput laut meliputi air yang jernih, bebas dari pencemaran, dasar perairan yang didominasi campuran batu karang dan pasir yang merupakan syarat utama dalam pengembangan usaha budidaya rumput laut. Perairan Dusun Wael berpotensi untuk pengembangan budidaya rumput laut, namun tingginya aktivitas manusia dalam memanfaatkan perairan Dusun Wael berakibat mencemari dan menurunkan kualitas perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur kualitas perairan budidaya rumput laut Dusun Wael. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada area budidaya rumput laut Dusun Wael, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2023 selama 45 hari. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan 5 titik sampling pengamatan selama 7 kali pengulangan pada daerah pengamatan Dusun Wael. Hasil penelitian menunjukan parameter kualitas air meliputi suhu berkisar 21-33oC, salinitas 30-34 ppt, kecerahan 3-6 m, DO 3,62-7,34 mg/l, pH 7.25-7.31, fosfat 0-0.15 mg/l, nitrat 0-0.01 mg/l. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, parameter kualitas perairan masih sesuai baku mutu untuk pertumbuhan serta pengembangan budidaya rumput laut di Dusun Wael.     Challenges in the electrochemical (bio)sensing of non-electroactive food and environmental contaminants

    Abstract: The electrochemical detection of non-electroactive contaminants can be successfully faced via the use of indirect detection strategies. These strategies can provide sensitive and selective responses often coupled with portable and user-friendly analytical tools. Indirect detection strategies are usually based on the change in the signal of an electroactive probe, induced by the presence of the target molecule at a modified electrode. This critical review aims at addressing the developments in indirect electro-sensing strategies for non-electroactive contaminants in food and environmental analysis in the last years (2017-2019). Emphasis is given to the strategy design, the electrode modifiers used and the feasibility of technological transfer
