Effects of Slope Position on Soil Physicochemical Properties of Cultivated Land Use Type in Danka Watershed of Dinsho District, Bale Highland, Oromia, Southeast Ethiopia
Quantify and understand soil nutrient loss under different undulating topography farming bases for site-specific management and targeted fertilizer application rates. The study aimed to assess the effect of slope positions on soil physicochemical properties at the Danka watershed of Dinsho District Bale Highland, Southeastern Ethiopia. Consequent to the reconnaissance survey, soil samples were taken from the cultivated land use type in three replications at three different soil depths (0-0, 20-40, and 40-60 cm) and three slope positions (upper, middle, and lower), analyzed follow standard laboratory procedure and further analyzed using R software 4.1.1 version. The results showed soil physicochemical properties were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) influenced by the interaction between slope positions and soil depth. The results of soil physical properties varied from 1.29 -1.73 g cm-3, 2.47 – 2.74 g cm-3, 47.80 - 36.75%, 10.78 – 15.11%, 12.76 – 18.16%, and 4.06 – 8.16% bulk density, particle density, total porosity, FC, PWP, and AWHC, respectively. Selected soil chemical properties varied from 5.91 - 6.45, 0.64 - 3.20%, 0.04 - 0.25%, 1.14 - 5.60 gm/kg, and 10.24 - 37.24 cmol (+)/kg) soil pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, and CEC, respectively.
The values of exchangeable bases were concentration increased from the upper slope position toward the lower slope position and with increased soil depth. Soil micronutrients were increased with increased slope and decreased with increased soil depth. The lowest slope position had relatively better soil nutrient contents than other slope positions. It is advised that integrated soil fertility management, biophysical soil and water conservation, and slope-based, site-specific fertilizer rating for advance agricultural precision and ensure food security
Lime and Vermicompost Application to Acid Soils and Their Effects on Maize Yield and Yield Components in Lalo Asabi District, West Wollega Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia
Soil acidity is one of the major yield-limiting factors for crop production worldwide, particularly on highly weathered and leached tropical soils. Different reports have indicated that there is significant soil acidity coverage in Ethiopia. In particularly, in the western part of the country, soil acidity is a well-known problem limiting crop production and productivity. As part of the solution to such a problem in soils, the combined application of lime and VC on maize has not been investigated in the area, in which maize was one of the potential cereal crops in the area. A field experiment was conducted at Lalo Asabi district in western Wollega during the 2020 cropping season to evaluate the responses of maize to the combined application of lime and vermicompost (VC). The experimental treatments were five rates of lime (CaCO3) (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% of lime requirement (LR)) and three levels of vermicompost (0, 2.5, and 5 t ha-1). The treatments were arranged in factorial combinations in a randomized complete block design with three replications. One composite surface soil samples from a depth of (0-15 cm) was collected from the experimental field before the commencement of the experiment. Maize yield and yield components were measured following standard procedures. The yield components and yield results revealed the main effects of lime and VC showed a significant effect (p<0.05) on the number of days to 50% tasseling and silking, ear height, number of cobs per plant, number of grains per cob, thousand grain weight, above ground biomass, and harvest index of maize. However, days to 90% physiological maturity, plant height, cob length and grain yield of maize were significantly affected (p<0.05) by lime and VC interactions. Even though both were statistically equal, the combined application of lime at 100% LR + 5 t VC ha-1 yielded the highest grain yield (7.99 t ha-1) followed by the combined application of lime at 75% LR + 2.5 t VC ha-1 whereas the lowest grain yield (2.97 t ha-1) from control plots. The results of economic analysis indicated that the combination of lime at 75% LR + 2.5 t VC ha-1 showed a marginal rate of return of 2322.74%, with the highest net benefit of 49980 Ethiopian Birr compared to other treatments. This study indicates combined use of lime and VC could ameliorate the adverse effect of soil acidity, and application of 75% LR + 2.5 t VC ha1 enhances grain yield and produces the highest net benefit of maize grown on acidic soil of the Lalo Asabi district
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Soybean (Glycine max L.) Response to Lime and Vermicompost Amelioration of Acidic Nitisols of Assosa, North Western Ethiopia
Acidic soils limit the production potential of crops because of low availability of basic cations and excess of hydrogen (H+) and aluminium (Al3+) in exchangeable forms. In the western part of the country such as Assosa and Wellega, soil acidity is a well-known problem limiting crop productivity. A field study was conducted to assess the effects of lime, vermicompost and their combinations on selected soil physico-chemical properties and responses of soybean grown on acidic Nitisols of Assosa area during 2016 and 2017 main cropping seasons. Soil samples were collected from the experimental site before planting and from plots after harvesting. The collected samples were analysed following the standard methods for soil physico-chemical analysis. The treatments were factorial combinations of four levels of lime (0, 1.62, 3.62 and 4.90 t ha-1) and four levels of vermicompost (0, 1.50, 3.00 and 4.50 t ha-1). The results revealed that soil pH increased from 5.31 – 5.86 pH while exchangeable acidity decreased from 5.46 - 2.85 cmol (+) kg-1 with levels of lime and vermicompost (3.26 with 3 and 4.90 with 4.5) t ha-1 respectively, which resulted in improved soil physico-chemical properties. The combined application of lime and vermicompost also significantly improved the yield related parameters of soybean. The maximum grain yield (1.95t ha-1) was obtained from the combined application of 4.90 ton lime and 3.00 ton vermicompost ha-1 followed by combined application of 3.26 ton lime with 3.00 ton vermicompost ha-1 with non-significant variation. Therefore, the combined application of 3.26 ton lime and 3.00 ton vermicompost ha-1 is a promising alternative amendment for amelioration of acidic Nitisols of Assosa (Amba-12 Kebele) and other similar agro-ecologies for the improvement of soybean production

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
