Wei-Xing Shi earned his PhD from the School of Medicine at Yale University. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, Wei-Xing Shi returned to Yale, serving as an Assistant Professor and later as an Associate Professor. In 2007, Wei-Xing Shi joined Loma Linda University, where he has since held the position of Full Professor in both the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. Wei-Xing Shi’s research primarily focuses on the neurobiology and pharmacology of brain disorders, with a particular emphasis on those related to the central dopamine system. His research has been supported by grants from various federal and private agencies. He is a recipient of the NARSAD Young Investigator Award (two-time), the NARSAD Independent Investigator Award, the NIMH FIRST Award, and the Scottish Rite Schizophrenia Research Award

Local analysis of the magnetic instability in rotating magnetohydrodynamics with the short-wavelength approximation

    No full text
We investigate analytically the magnetic instability in a rotating and electrically conducting fluid induced by an imposed magnetic field with its associated electric current. The short-wavelength approximation is used in the linear stability analysis, i.e. the length scale of the imposed field is much larger than the wavelength of perturbations. The dispersion relationship is derived and then simplified to give the criteria for the onset of the magnetic instability in three cases of imposed field, namely, the axial dependence, the radial dependence and the mixed case. The orientation of rotation, imposed field and imposed current is important for this instability.Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) [SPP1488

Sepasang / Sehimpun: Koleksi Benda Seni Purwohadi Sanjoto & Non Widjajakusuma

Multifractal properties of Pyrex and silicon surfaces blasted with sharp particles

    Get PDF
The blasting of brittle materials with sharp particles is an important fabrication technology in many industrial processes. In particular, for microsystems, it allows the production of devices with feature sizes down to few tens of microns. An important parameter of this process is the surface roughness of post-blasted surfaces. In this work the scaling properties of Pyrex glass and silicon surfaces after bombardment with alumina particles are investigated. The targets were bombarded at normal incidence using alumina particles with two different average sizes, 29 µm and 9 µm. This investigation indicates that the resulting surfaces are multifractal. Applying multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA) allowed us to determine the singularity spectrum of the surfaces. This spectrum did not depend on the target material or on the size of the particles. Several parameters quantifying relevant quantities were determined. It was found that long range correlations are responsible for the observed multifractal behaviour
