Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Privatne galerije u Zagrebu koje su pokrenute od 1990. do danas, specijalizirane za umjetnost 20. i 21. stoljeća
Get PDFNa slabljenje uloge galerija u prometu umjetničkim djelima u Hrvatskoj ponajviše je utjecalo osiromašenje društva koje je dovelo do drastičnog pada vrijednosti umjetnina. U takvoj situaciji znatan dio prodaje umjetnina odvija se mimo galerija, isključivo na temelju međusobnih poznanstava. Sami umjetnici su se u potpunosti okrenuli prodaji u ateljeima i izbjegavanju galerija kao posrednika, pa se doima kako su privatne galerije praktički nepotreban sudionik umjetničkog tržišta. Zbog velike raširenosti crnog tržišta privatne galerije jako teško posluju pa same nemaju dovoljno sredstava kako bi adekvatno radile na afirmaciji mladih perspektivnih umjetnika. Tako u našoj sredini nije zaživjela uobičajena inozemna praksa da privatne galerije vode računa o promociji „svojih“ umjetnika tako da održavaju kontakte s kolekcionarima, brinu o oglašavanju u medijima, te nastoje osigurati pozitivne osvrte likovnih kritičara. S druge strane, relativno uspješno poslovanje nekolicine domaćih privatnih galerija temelji se na samoizolaciji hrvatskog tržišta umjetnina koje je u potpunosti okrenuto domaćim autorima te funkcionira prema vrijednosnim kriterijima koji su relevantni samo unutar nacionalnih okvira. U Hrvatskoj su iznimno rijetke one privatne galerije koje su se specijalizirale za određena stilska razdoblja ili autore, a njihova ponuda se uglavnom temelji na tržišnim očekivanjima, pa često imaju i potpuno heterogen repertoar bez jasnih kriterija u selekciji umjetnika. Takvo stanje će, dakako, uvijek biti opravdavano malim tržištem i financijskom neisplativošću. Naravno, to su činjenice u trenutačnoj ekonomskoj situaciji kakva vlada u Hrvatskoj, a one su se, nažalost, često pokazale nepokolebljivima u brojnim slučajevima kratkotrajnog djelovanja pojedinih privatnih galerija s ambicioznijim planovima. Zbog toga bi one privatne galerije koje rade na afirmaciji mladih umjetnika i na uspostavljanju mostova međunarodne suradnje trebale dobiti veću potporu od državnih vlasti, u vidu financijske podrške i uvođenja poreznih olakšica.
Može se konstatirati kako privatne inicijative u galerijskom sektoru obilježava nestalnost te nedovoljna promišljenost na planu poduzetničkih aktivnosti. Galeristi bi trebali voditi računa o marketingu kako bi privukli sponzore, te bi na taj način mogli osigurati sredstva za ozbiljniji izlagački program koji je u trenutačnoj situaciji u značajnoj mjeri zanemaren. No, takve inicijative neće naići na plodno tlo sve dok se ne suzbije neuređenost umjetničkog tržišta koja destimulira privatna ulaganja na ovom području. Osim toga, jedan od najvažnijih zadataka svakog galerista je edukacija kolekcionara koji će postati njegovi stalni klijenti jer je to zapravo jedina garancija kontinuiranog financijskog prosperiteta galerije. Posljednjih desetak godina u Hrvatskoj se povećao broj privatnih kolekcionara, ali i poslovnih subjekata koji su spremni ulagati u umjetnost, što daje barem neku nadu da bi u budućnosti moglo doći do konsolidacije umjetničkog tržišta. Što se tiče uloge privatnih galerija u tom procesu nužno je njihovo jasnije profiliranje, kako u sadržajnom tako i u vrijednosnom usmjerenju.
Oporavljanju galerijskog sektora ponajviše bi moglo pridonijeti uvođenje posebnog zakona kojim će se regulirati kupoprodaja umjetnina po uzoru na razvijene zemlje. Tu se prvenstveno radi o zakonskoj obavezi izdavanja računa prilikom prodaje, te utvrđivanju sankcija za kršenje spomenutog propisa. Dakle, iznimno je važno provoditi poreznu inspekciju u svim oblicima kupoprodaje umjetnina. Tada bi se zasigurno i sami umjetnici prije odlučili na prodaju preko galerista, umjesto da sami troše vrijeme i energiju na marketinške i prodajne aktivnosti. U nereguliranim uvjetima kakvi danas vladaju na tržištu umjetnina u Hrvatskoj svaki od aktera se snalazi na svoj način u pokušaju preživljavanja, pa tako galeristi velik dio prodaje umjetnina obavljaju „ispod stola“ gdje kupac plaća gotovinom. Tada ne postoji trag promjena u vlasništvu pojedine umjetnine, pa se na taj način izbjegava plaćanje poreza.
Naposljetku, kako bi u budućnosti došlo do razvoja galerističke scene u Hrvatskoj nužno je ostvariti nekoliko preduvjeta: u što većoj mjeri suzbiti sivo i crno tržište umjetnina, osigurati veću medijsku zastupljenost tema vezanih uz umjetnička događanja, potaknuti galerije na čvršće profiliranje svog programa, te raditi na širenju ideje da su privatne galerije iznimno važan sudionik u trgovini umjetninama bez kojeg sami umjetnici ne mogu dobiti kvalitetnu promociju koja će im jamčiti dobar plasman na tržištu

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
