The IAAF’s hyperandrogenism regulations suspended
On 27 July, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (‘CAS’) delivered a landmark ruling on the regulation of gender in sport. The decision explores how the categorisation of sport on the basis of sex can be best reconciled with the “biological reality” that human sex cannot necessarily be divided so clearly. Dr. Seema Patel, Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, Deputy Director of the Centre for Sports Law and author of ‘Inclusion and Exclusion in Competitive Sport: Socio-Legal and Regulatory Perspectives,’ reviews the case and suggests that sport regulation must be cautious of traditional criteria to determine eligibility in sports

Author interview: Q and A with Dr Ian Sanjay Patel on we’re here because you were there: immigration and the end of empire
In this author interview, we speak to Dr Ian Sanjay Patel about his new book, We’re Here Because You Were There: Immigration and the End of Empire, which explores post-war immigration laws, the afterlives of British imperial citizenship and related attempts to reimagine and rejuvenate British imperialism after 1945. Contributing to transnational histories of decolonisation, the book also explores the interconnections between human rights, post-war migration and international diplomacy. Effect of active heating and cooling on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir–welded dissimilar aluminium alloy and titanium butt joints
A butt joint configuration of AA6061–pure Ti was welded using friction stir welding (FSW) with an assisted cooling and heating conditions, aiming to attain a flawless joint. Cooling-assisted friction stir welding (CFSW) was carried out with a different cooling medium such as CO2, compressed air and water at controlled flow rate. However, heating-assisted friction stir welding (HFSW) was performed with heating source of GTAW torch just before FSW tool at different current density. Prepared specimens were subjected to optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrodischarge spectroscopy (EDS) for microstructural characterizations. The tensile strength and microhardness were significantly affected by various cooling and heating conditions, attributing to the distinct proportion of the intermetallic compounds (IMCs) evident in the microstructure. The samples prepared with cooling conditions exhibited superior joint properties as compared with the normal and heating conditions

Analysis Of The Seismic Risk Of Major-Hazard Industrial Plants And Applicability Of Innovative Seismic Protection Systems
In this paper the main results obtained within different research projects, developed about the
applicability of seismic passive control of major-hazard industrial installations are shown.
The work concerns the main components of a refinery that have been classified and collected
into a limited number of classes on the basis of the geometrical and mechanical
characteristics. For each class, the main damages caused by past earthquakes have been
described and the most vulnerable component have been identified. Finally, a synthesis of
the effects of earthquakes on the different typology of process components has been carried
out and the most suitable innovative seismic protection systems, in particular of passive type,
have been recognized. Finally an example of using dissipative coupling between a
distillation column and an adjacent service frame is illustrated
