Simonetto: Gabriellino d’Annunzio tra Moretti e Marinetti
The retrieval of a letter written by Gabriellino d’Annunzio to Marino Moretti takes the reader behind the stage of the Manzoni Theatre in Milan on 27 March 1905. It was the first staging of Gabriele d’Annunzio’s play La fiaccola sotto il moggio (The light under the bushel), and Gabriellino played Simonetto, the female lead’s brother. His interpretation received mixed reviews, mainly due to the hysterical tone he gave to the character. Numerous sources refer to that première: not only Moretti’s writings but also various contemporary chronicles, as well as Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’a volume Les dieux s’en vont, D’Annunzio reste, in which the author describes and comments the staging. The various sources testify to Gabriele d’Annunzio’s disillusionment towards his own directorial experimen
This essay is published in the collective work Luigi Moretti. Razionalismo e tragressività tra barocco e informale, edited by Bruno Reichlin and Letiza Tedeschi, and prepared in occasion of the homonymous exhibition inaugurated in Rome in May 2008 at the MAXXI – Museum of XXI Century Arts.
At the end of December 1957 the Italian Minster of Public Works Giuseppe Togni commissioned the project for the 1960 Olympic Village from a group of architects composed of Vittorio Cafiero, Adalberto Libera, Amedeo Luccichenti, Vincenzo Monaco and Luigi Moretti. Financed by Incis (Istituto nazionale case per gli impiegati dello stato, or National Housing Institute for State Employees) and constructed in little more than two years, the Olympic Village was presented from the outset as a model neighbourhood, the prototype of a modern and functional self-sufficient quarter, in line with the best examples offered by pre-war Rationalist architecture and in open controversy with the neo-realist experience of Rome’s Tiburtino district (1949-1954).
The essay reconstructs the various phases of design, focusing on the dialogue between the five architects as they worked to define the plan of the Village and its common elements (pilotis, building typologies and heights), exposing the decisive role played by Luigi Moretti as coordinator of the group. At the same time, the text also identifies the stylistic signature of each architect in the final buildings. Thus, while the cross-shaped buildings of Libera and the group of linear blocks by Moretti are easily recognisable, the buildings by Cafiero or Monaco and Luccichenti, though revealing the close collaboration with Moretti, present autonomous linguistic decisions, including a structural grid exposed on the façade or the use of vertical brick coursing
Abstract : About thirty years ago, to talk about the inclusion of blind students in regular classes was a utopia. Nowadays, the whole education system faces difficulties such as teacher training (MACHADO, 2009) and the increased number of enrollement of students with special educational needs in regular public schools (BRASIL, 2001a). Nevertheless, the inclusion has gone beyond the scope of a discussion and become the fact and the rights of blind students. This present research - qualitative in nature - reports the experience of a teacher in an inclusive classroom with blind students from 9th grade of primary school where she found the need to analyze two documents used for teaching: the Unified Mathematical Code for the Portuguese language  CMU and the textbook transcribed into Braille (LDB). Mathematical consistency in relation to symbolism was analyzed in the CMU. As for the LDB, its compliance with the CMU and with material presented in ink print textbooks (LDT) was examined. In both the CMU and the LDB it was sought to verify the existence of the phenomenon of semantic noncongruence as in Duval (2003, 2004, 2011) and the influences of these two documents for the blind student and the teacher. Concluding that analysis, some misconceptions were pointed out regarding mathematical consistency of the CMU and the phenomenon of semantic noncongruence was found in both the CMU and the LDB. The existence of semantic non-congruence demonstrated potential sources of difficulties for the blind student (increased number of characters, time for problem solving, impaired reading and interpretation of images) and for the teacher (solving doubts and knowledge of the Braille System). The author emphasizes the need of the CMU revision showing other issues to be analyzed beyond those shown in the research such as the content standards in the Middle and High School and also the organization of the CMU content. There has been found the need for the teacher to learn the Braille System as already pointed by Machado (2009) and Masini (2013), and that allowed to reflect upon the characteristics required to improve inclusive education: courage and persistence
The last verse of the thirty-seven iambic dimeters of the poem with which the third book of Martianus Capella's De nuptiis opens presents a textual problem addressed differently by the editors. A new conjectural solution for the passage is proposed, particularly economical from a paleographic point of view and such as to perfectly reflect the outcome of the dialogue between Camena and Martianus staged between the final poem of the second book and the initial one of the third. If the character of the author would like to put an end to the allegorical structure, used in the first two nuptial books, for the last seven books dedicated to the Artes, Camena will finally convince him to combine the sober truth of the manualistic exposition with the Menippean pleasantness and lusus, still using an allegorical covering so that the Arts do not appear 'naked' in the presence of the divine assembly
Nutritional quality traits of Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis): A sustainable aquatic food product available on Italian market all year round
In this study, Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) coming from Italian production were purchased in the most important Italian wholesale fish market in different seasons. Biometrical parameters and chemical composition were investigated, with a particular focus on lipid quality and fatty acids (FAs) composition. Results showed a valuable nutritional profile independently by the season of production, represented by high protein and low-fat content, with the lipid portion represented by high amounts of beneficial FAs, particularly the long chain of the n-3 series. Some differences (p < 0.05) were found in carbohydrates and fat content of mussels edible tissues and in FAs profile of specimens collected in different seasons. The most favourable composition in terms of lipid quality was found in mussels collected during spring, corresponding to the moment of the year when mussels store energy reserves in the form of carbohydrates and fat (preparing for the spawning events) and when seawater is enriched in phytoplankton. The lipid health indices calculated (n6/n3, AI, TI) showed optimal values independently by the season of production. The outcomes obtained in this study could help supporting the appreciation of Mediterranean mussels as nutritional valuable seafood product, thus helping encouraging their consumption and promoting the appraisal of this farming sector essential for Italian aquaculture and related to low environmental impact
The research examines the works commissioned to Giorgio Picchi for the church and the convent of the Friars Minor Conventual of Casteldurante. By analyzing the pastoral visits of Bishop Pietro Barugi (1686-1708), the author recreates the structure and the décor of the ancient Chapel Della Rovere in St. Francis, with particular attention to the painting of The Glory of the Saints, also called The paradise, ommissioned by the duke Francesco Maria II. The study focuses also on the frescoes of the ancient cloister of Friars, bringing together for the first time the few surviving paintings and the preparatory drawings now preserved in the most important public and private graphic collections of the world. An unpublished letter of 1784 allows, finally, to document the debate about the destruction of the ancient cloister and its paintings, which began as a result of the protests made by Francesco Luzi, once guardian of the convent, staunch defender of the Picchi’s frescoes, in strong opposition with the bishop of Urbania Paolo Antonio Agostini Zamperoli (1779-1812), who decided to sacrifice the frescoes to allow the friars to build a new arrangement of the interior spaces of the convent, after the damage of the earthquake happened in 178
Fatty Acids
This chapter covers the main aspects of fatty acids analysis in fish, seafood, and aquaculture products. The first part of the chapter aims to provide general information about the structure and the classification of lipids and fatty acids commonly found in seafood and aquaculture products, introducing their functional role in human nutrition and their relevance in the field of food authenticity as biomarkers of origin. The second part of the chapter focuses on analytical issues, covering all the steps of the analysis of fatty acids, from lipid extraction to fatty acids separation and detection. Particularly, in the second part, the chapter introduces both traditional and novel analytical methods employed in fatty acids analysis of seafood and aquaculture products
Psychiatry and sensation: the epigenetic links
A complex interaction among sensory, social and epigenetic determinants in psychiatric conditions was described across all age strata. The high prevalence of mental disorders in individuals with sensory deficits might be attributed to the interaction among social isolation, cognitive functioning and sensory processing. The epigenetic implications of such interactions were examined: environmental and social factors can affect gene expression and impact the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders also through sensory processing. This article discussed the role of social determinants, in other words, social isolation, loneliness and chronic stress, in promoting psychiatric disorders and, in a vicious circle, sensory deficits (vision, hearing, olfaction and somatosensation). We emphasized the importance of integrating social, sensory and epigenetic factors to target different treatments for psychiatric conditions
This paper focuses on the Latin verse funerary inscription of 12-years-old Constantina, found in Hippo Regius and dating from the 6th-7th AD. The metrical structure and the language of the epitaph are investigated, as presumably resulting from the collaboration of a literate ‘author’ with an illiterate scribe. Furthermore, the meaning of the Vergilian echoes featuring in the text is reexamined
