    High-Resolution FTIR Spectrum of the n5 band of 1-1-Difluoroethylene around 550cm-1

    The infrared spectrum of CF2CH2 recorded in the range 400-4000 cm-1 with a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer has been studied in the ν5 region. This fundamental approximately described as a CF2 scissor mode gives rise to an a-type band showing in most regions of the spectrum distinct patterns characteristic of molecules approaching the oblate symmetric top limit. The rovibrational analysis extended to the P, Q, and R branches led to the identification of about 3000 transitions covering J and Ka values up to 70 and 46, respectively. Using Watson's A-reduction Hamiltonian the assigned transitions provided a set of accurate rotational and centrifugal distortion constants for the first excited vibrational state of the ν5 band of CF2CH2. © 1991

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     High-resolution infrared spectroscopy of CH<sub>2</sub>D<sup>79</sup>Br: ro-vibrational analysis of the ν<sub>4</sub> and ν<sub>8</sub> fundamental bands

    The high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectrum of CH2D79Br has been recorded and analysed in the region of the ν4 and ν8 fundamentals located in the range 1125−1360 cm−1. The strong ν4 band, centred at 1225 cm−1, shows an a/b-hybrid structure with predominant a-type character, whereas ν8, at 1253 cm−1, generates a c-type contour comparable in intensity to the b-type component of ν4. The upper states of these fundamentals are coupled through a- and b-type Coriolis resonances; further complications in this band system arise from perturbations due to the ν6 = 2 (1183 cm−1) and ν5 = ν6 = 1 (1359 cm−1) dark states. The former interacts with ν8 = 1 by b-type Coriolis coupling, whereas the latter perturbs the ν4 = 1 and ν8 = 1 levels by anharmonic and a-type Coriolis resonances, respectively. Accurate upper state parameters and interaction terms have been determined for the tetrad system ν4/ν8/2ν6/ν5+ν6 by also including in the dataset the assigned transitions of the 2ν6−ν6 and ν5+ν6−ν6 hot bands obtained from previous analysis

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    High-Resolution FTIR Spectrum of CF2=CH2 near 3060 cm-1: Rovibrational Analysis of the Methylene Symmetrical Stretching

    The infrared spectrum of CF2CH2 has been investigated in the CH2 symmetric stretching region near 3060 cm-1 at a resolution of about 0.004 cm-1 using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The analyzed ν1 fundamental of symmetry species A1 gives rise to an a-type band reflecting characteristics typical of molecules approaching to the oblate symmetric top limit. The band was found to be affected by different Coriolis-type resonances, and several states such as ν2 + ν8, 2ν8 + ν10, ν8 + ν9 + ν11, and ν2 + ν5 + ν11 seem to be involved in the interactions. The rovibrational analysis led to the identification of about 1700 lines in the P, Q, and R branches with J, Ka, and Kc values up to 59, 20, and 59, respectively. Transitions free of major resonance contributions were fitted using the Watson′s A-reduction Hamiltonian in the Ir representation; a least-squares fit of about 1000 lines yielded a set of effective constants for the v1 = 1 state of CF2CH2. © 1993 Academic Press, Inc

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
