Interpretation and Diagnostic Workup of Premature Ventricular Beats

    No full text
Athletes with premature ventricular beats (PVBs) are not rare. The risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmias depends on the presence of an underlying pathological myocardial substrate. The standard diagnostic workup includes family and personal history, resting ECG, 24-h ambulatory ECG (possibly with 12-lead and including a training session), maximal exercise testing, and echocardiography. However, normal first-line investigation does not definitely rule out the presence of a concealed substrate (such as ventricular scars) that can be revealed only by more in-depth investigations (particularly cardiac magnetic resonance). Features that can help estimating the probability that the PVBs are linked to a heart disease and that suggest the need for second-level testing include morphology, complexity, and inducibility by exercise

Available solar energy in a room as a function of area and shape of window

    No full text
The influence of the orientation of the apertures on the energy performance of the building is outlined by several publications concerning bio climatic architecture. The influence of the morphology of windows on available solar gains seems to be less investigated. In this paper the direct and global solar radiation penetrating through the aperture on the wall was computed as a function of its geometry (area, shape and number of windows). The aperture was closed by a double glazing normally used in private premises to assure a better thermal insulation. All the obtained results only apply to the specific conditions examined here: a vertical façade facing South and located in Venice, isotropic sky, etc. This last assumption was forcedly made because no irradiance values of the sky have been published for this pIace
