Strabismes : Woolf et le regard photograhique (contes de journées d’été)

    No full text
This article introduces the reader to the laboratory of criticism writing, as the author gets himself and his tools ready for the task, describes the context and circumstances prevailing over his work, and bares himself to the minimum (and maximum) of critical practice by honing out his attentiveness to the object under scrutiny. The following pages evoke a pastoral writing scene in which intuition, encounter and reprise allow for a dialogue with Woolf’s Three Guineas, addressing the logics of sensation and politics of the photograph in relation with other readers like Barthes, Sontag or Butler

This is a database of the highest terraces of the Ebro Basin. Compilation by V. Regard, April 2021. It is supposed to be exhaustive for levels A to D (A the oldest), and not exhaustive for the levels E to G. Shapes come mainly from the digital IGME geological maps (MAGNA 50 - Mapa Geológico de España a escala 1:50.000; 2ª Serie). A few of them have been redrawn. In addition, we provide an enlarged Figure 1 with respect to the paper. Related paper: Regard V., A. Vacherat, S. Bonnet, F. Mouthereau, J. Nørgaard, and M. F. Knudsen (in Rev.) The Death – and Lives – of the Author

    No full text
Writers’ biographies (written about writers by writers) constitute a genre with very long historical roots, which has flourished in the last twenty-five or thirty years. This is undoubtedly linked to the lifting of the post-structuralist ban concerning the author as a person, so that it became possible, at least in France, to legitimize biographical writing again. We date this revival to the mid-1980s, when Duras, Robbe-Grillet and Sollers all published (auto)biographical texts, whose status is certainly problematic, but nonetheless worthy of careful attention. Immersed in Romantic anthropology, in various transpositions and numerous genre nostalgias, this general ambiguity appears as the key characteristic of biographical productions of the 1980s. What we have here is a kind of a spectacle, in which the figure of the author re-enters the stage. At the same time, it is a “biographical illusion” (Bourdieu). Many contemporary biographers know that the ‘truth’ about the other can only be grasped through a play on forms (or on the memory of forms), if not, to evoke Lacan, in “a line of fiction”

    Jean Rhys: Writing Precariously

    No full text
International audienceJean Rhys' position upon the literary map of the 20th century remains unstable, even after Wide Sargasso Sea (1966). She shunned public exposure and yet, desperately sought acknowledgement by her own peers; she stood away from the modernist circles of Montparnasse, in Paris, and yet, explored a radically avant-garde writing which retrospectively makes her rank among them, while her always problematic authority places her in the marginalized position of the postcolonial author.'Writing precariously', in the case of Jean Rhys, reaches far beyond a mere posture of submission or a necessity to cope with a lack of money or a 'room of one’s own'. Rather, it becomes an ethical and political stance that engages with forms of minimal resistance to forms of subjection just as the very precariousness of her writing thwarts any efforts to 'place' her or her work, to frame her characters or label her style. With Jean Rhys, precariousness is the site where voices silenced and bodies dismissed by a gendered or imperialistic power may be retrieved, until their vulnerability becomes a dislodging force that makes the power structures precarious in turn. This book reassesses the precariousness of Jean Rhys as a distinct positionality eliciting an isolated voice which insists and persists. It was originally published as a special issue of the journal, Women: A Cultural Review

This paper contains a summary assessment of adherence to the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision with respect to the offshore sector of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Offshore Finance Authority Act, 1996, and the International Banks Act, 1996, set out the framework for offshore bank supervision in the jurisdiction. The Offshore Finance Authority (OFA) has reportedly enjoyed substantial operational independence. However, it is recommended to enhance OFA’s role and legal independence on matters such as the power to set prudential rules administratively.Bank supervision;Basel Core Principles;Offshore financial centers;Reports on the Observance of Standards and Codes;St. Vincent and the Grenadines;banking, offshore banks, banking supervision, offshore banking, capital adequacy, internal controls, internal audit, connected lending, money laundering, suspicious activities, risk management, banking sector, suspicious transactions, suspicious transactions reporting, capital adequacy ratio, internal control, external auditor, credit policy, bank management, banking industry, supervisory authorities, bank act, prudential supervision, internal control procedures, reporting forms, supervisory frameworks, independent bank, eastern caribbean central bank, financial regulation, bank policies, accounting standards, banking license, due regard, supervisory regime, bank managements, consolidated supervision, financial intelligence unit
