Lopputuloksena työstä syntyi asustekorumallisto kolmesta eri teemasta. Mallisto oli inspiroitunut Parikan tuotteissa esiintyvästä kuvakielestä, jota muotoilija käsittely oman näkemyksensä kautta. This thesis is a working life-based collaboration between two designers from different lines. It deals with the designing process of an accessory jewellery collection for shoe designer Minna Parikka’s company from the author’s point of view. The aim of the accessory jewellery collection was to present the aesthetics of Parikka’s collection and in addition the designer’s own style. The base for designing was started by getting familiar with the history of costume jewellery and spring/ summer 2012 accessory trends according to WGSN-websites. The thesis also explored Minna Parikka’s design and one of her collections. A benchmarking- collage was done to picture the direction of the accessory jewellery collection. The 4D- product platform was an important designing tool which was used twice in this project. With the help of the 4D-product platform, Minna Parikka’s Spring/ Summer 2012 collection was explored deeper. It was also used in the designing process to modify the ideas for the jewellery. The designing process was assessed and commented by Minna Parikka. The three-pieced accessory jewellery collection was made as the final result. The collection was inspired by Parikka’s design language which the author processed with her own vision

The Finnish Centre of Excellence in White Biotechnology - Green Chemistry Research is a status that was given to VTT by the Academy of Finland for the years 2008-2013. The CoE is committed to developing new biotechnological and chemistry methods for the effi cient production of chemicals and materials from renewable natural resources. 'White' or industrial biotechnology combined with 'green chemistry' has a vital role to play in developing sustainable production processes that can help save energy and the environment

Development of advanced biorefi nery schemes to be integrated into existing industrial fuel-producing complexes

BIOREF-INTEG was a 'Coordination and Support Action Project' within the framework of the FP7 program (Theme Energy). The project was funded by the European Commission from June 2008 until May 2010 and was coordinated by the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN). It was supported by 12 partners. The main aim of the project was to develop advanced biorefinery schemes to be integrated into existing industrial fuel-producing complexes. The Final Reporting of the BIOREF-INTEG project has still not been accepted by the European Commission

Pressure-loss measurements of fibre pulp at high consistency

    No full text
Conventional paper and board manufacturing with forming consistencies over 4% is difficult or impossible because of the problems of web forming. The maximum consistencies of fibre suspensions that can be pumped with MC pumps are about 18-20%. Piston pumps with line pressures over 200 bars allow much denser fluids to be pumped. The key idea of forming with high-consistency pulp is energy savings at all stages of the processing, i.e., during refining, pumping and forming of the pulp, as well as during drying of the formed object. In this case, the formed object will not be paper; instead it may be thick board-like web. The web or object has to have some adequate strength properties, though there is less need for other normally important properties such as formation, brightness, printability, etc. of conventional papermaking

Tailoring of nanocellulosic materials for industrial applications

    No full text
The forest industry is looking for new technological solutions and products. One very interesting opportunity is the production and use of cellulose nanofibres for new types of materials and novel applications. Nanocellulosic materials are expected to have their first application areas within paper industry products. One of the aims is to create new application and product openings outside the paper sector, which requires the creation of novel, cross-disciplinary scientific knowledge on fundamental material characteristics as well as on chemical and biotechnical modifications of nanocellulose fibres. These are the main aims of the public cross-disciplinarily project called Tailoring of Nanocellulosic Materials for Industrial Applications (Naseva) run jointly by TKK, VTT and nine industrial partners
