Le fonti del De orthographia di Cassiodoro: modalità di ricezione e fruizione
In his treatise De orthographia Cassiodorus utilized eight ancient sources distributed in twelve chapters, five of which (Annaeus Cornutus, Curtius Valerianus, Papirianus, Eutyches and Caesellius Vindex) have been completely lost; however three of them have been preserved in a direct tradition (being that of Velius Longus, Martyrius and Priscian in the series of Grammatici Latini), and these can be compared with the text published by Cassiodorus, to assess the way in which this author had assimilated and treated them: in particular the works of Velius Longus and Priscian have been extracted on the basis of a drastic selection principle, and then elaborated again with great liberty acquiring at times also proper creative and perceptive autonomy (although this is not devoid of mistakes); Martyrius’s text instead has been preserved in an almost integral form, but contains mistakes by the author and innovations of great interest.Stoppacci Patrizia. A Critical Review of the Abductor Pollicis Longus Electromyographic Activity
The aim of this study was to review the current evidence of the abductor pollicis longus electromyographic activity during thumb movements. The author performed an electronic thorough search for EMBASE, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Web of Knowledge articles. Nine pieces in particular were found to explore the electromyographic activity of the abductor pollicis longus during thumb functional and non-functional movements. Consistent results were noticed, all emphasizing the key role of abductor pollicis longus in stabilizing the thumb\u27s carpometacarpal joint. All target studies provided useful information about the abductor pollicis longus electromyographic activity. However, none of them examined the relationship between abductor pollicis longus electrical activity and thumb functional movements during functional hand use. Besides, these studies did not provide a firm conclusion as to the nature of the activity of the abductor pollicis longus during pinch and power grip strength, and the findings were somehow contradictory. Further studies are highly recommended to give an insight into the abductor pollicis longus electromyographic activity during thumb functional use. The gender differences of abductor pollicis longus electromyographic activity associated with kinematic motion analyses would be a core issue in future research
To hear the sound of the Latin language : about Roman grammarians in the context of "An outline of the history of linguistics" by Adam Heinz
In the context of "An Outline of the history of linguistics" by Adam Heinz, the author mentions and comments upon the views of Roman grammarians (Priscianus, Velius Longus, Flavius Caper, Servius) and other ancient authors (M. F. Quintilianus, A. Gellius) which enable us to learn specific details about the phonic realisation of classical Latin. The statements that are analysed concern the velar allophone of the front nasal /n/ in the position before velar stops, the attenuation of articulation (reduction) of the voiceless velar spirant /h/, the attenuation of the postvocalic nasal /n/ before the fricatives /s/ and /f/ and of the postvocalic /m/ in the word-final position, as well as the lengthened articulation of the intervocalic glide /i/. In the final part of the article the author mentions the testimonies of grammarians which refer to the ways of accentuation of Latin compounds with enclitics and proclitics
