Twitter is being sued for defamation by a Melbourne man who was wrongly identified as the author of a “hate blog” directed at writer and TV personality, Marieke Hardy.
Hardy posted a tweet last year to “name and shame” Joshua Meggitt, the Melbourne man she incorrectly identified as the blog’s author, leading Meggitt to sue Twitter for defamation.
While Meggitt and Hardy have already apparently reached a (confidential) legal settlement, the broader issue of Twitter’s moral culpability and legal responsibility for allegedly defamatory tweets has now been brought sharply into focus.

No full textIn 'Style and Context of Old Greek Job', Marieke Dhont offers a new understanding of the linguistic and stylistic diversity in the Septuagint corpus. To this end, the author innovatively uses Polysystem Theory, which has been developed in the field of modern literary studies. After discussing the appropriateness of a systemic approach to understanding Jewish-Greek literature, the author reflects on the Jewishness of Greek-language texts. Dhont then presents a thorough literary analysis of the Old Greek version of the book of Job. Scenario-guided participatory enhancement of Costa Rica’s Nationally Determined Contribution
Get PDFCountries need to enhance the ambition of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in order to prevent catastrophic effects of temperature increase over 2 degrees Celsius. More frequent and severe weather events across the globe have shown us the urgency of this matter. To limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, economies will need to go through deep transformations. However, planning for societal changes of this magnitude is complex, and major uncertainty about future developments can hold countries back from setting ambitious goals. NDC enhancement processes, which should take place at least every five years, need to include segments where stakeholders of different backgrounds and sectors collectively imagine how those transformations could take place, and what could make or break the transcendental emission reduction and climate change resilience that is needed.
In this Info Note we exemplify how this can be done by mapping out how Costa Rica used a highly participatory approach to anticipate possible futures, increase ambitions and robust climate action, resulting in an NDC with enhanced climate ambitions

Database of identified disruptive seeds in Guatemala
No full textUsing a snowball technique, 75 Seed Initiatives were identified in Guatemala during 2022. 23 of these seeds were prioritized by considering if they; are situated in the most climate vulnerable regions; challenge current power structures; offer more just or sustainable alternatives to current systems or practices (i.e. if they provide ideas for transformation); (in) explicitly aim for new forms of governance or institutional change; are they related to food systems or nutrition; and if they are focused on or led by women, youth, and/or indigenous people or campesinos. This resulted in a database of the the most disruptive and promising seeds from Guatemala´s most climate vulnerable regions. These prioritised disruptive seeds were invited to participate in developing transformation pathways for Guatemala´s food system

A partir de este ejercicio, se identificaron como factores críticos el cambio de uso del suelo, la gestión de la biodiversidad, la gobernanza de los recursos hídricos, el desarrollo tecnológico y las relaciones entre los países de la región, ante lo cual el MINAE asegura que las acciones a implementar deben trascender al cambio climático, para involucrar el desarrollo socioeconómico. Otro aspecto para considerar es la necesidad de desarrollar capacidad institucional para fortalecer la toma de decisiones que requerirá el futuro
Disruptive Seeds and transformation pathways for Guatemala's food system
Get PDFThis working paper describes a bottom-up approach to transformative change, the Disruptive Seeds approach. It is applied as part of ClimBeR’s Policy Pathways research (Work Package 3) in Guatemala and focuses on the potential of sustainable niche initiatives (i.e., disruptive seeds) that have the potential to grow in terms of impact. The objective of the project is to develop pathways for transformation of Guatemala’s food system based on identified seed initiatives. Seeds, in this regard, refer to “initiatives (social, technological, economic, or social–ecological ways of thinking or doing) that exist, at least in prototype form, and that represent a diversity of worldviews, values, and regions, but are not currently dominant in the world” (Bennett et al. 2016:442) and “real-world agents of current social-ecological transformation that are currently marginal, but have the potential to grow in impact” (Raudsepp-Hearne et al. 2019:606). The Seeds approach offers a novel, bottom-up method of transformative scenario development based on real- world initiatives (Bennett et al. 2016; Pereira et al. 2018)
Generalizing Non-punctuality for Timed Temporal Logic with Freeze Quantifiers
No full textMetric Temporal Logic (MTL) and Timed Propositional Temporal Logic (TPTL) are prominent real-time extensions of Linear Temporal Logic (LTL). In general, the satisfiability checking problem for these extensions is undecidable when both the future U and the past S modalities are used. In a classical result, the satisfiability checking for MITL[U,S], a non-punctual fragment of MTL[U,S], is shown to be decidable with EXPSPACE complete complexity. Given that this notion of non-punctuality does not recover decidability in the case of TPTL[U,S], we propose a generalization of non-punctuality called non-adjacency for TPTL[U,S], and focus on its 1-variable fragment, 1-TPTL[U,S]. While non-adjacent 1-TPTL[U,S] appears to be a very small fragment, it is strictly more expressive than MITL.
