No full textL’antropologia forense è una scienza applicata che consiste nell’utilizzo
dei principi e delle tecniche dell’antropologia biologica (detta anche
«fisica») e di altre discipline, quali l’archeologia, nelle indagini giudiziarie,
con particolare attenzione all’analisi dei resti umani, per lo più scheletrizzati,
con il fine di rivelarne l’identità personale, la causa di morte e
altri dettagli essenziali per la risoluzione di crimini.1 In base alla specifica
formazione scientifica di ciascun antropologo forense, nondimeno,
questi, oltre che a occuparsi della redazione del profilo biologico di uno
o più individui, può essere chiamato anche all’identificazione personale
compiuta su vivente o a effettuare una identificazione di tipo molecolare.2
Al giorno d’oggi, essa svolge un ruolo fondamentale nel sussidiare
l’Autorità Giudiziaria durante le indagini sulla scena del crimine e nelle
fasi successive, contribuendo così all’identificazione delle vittime di reati,
stragi o guerre, come pure di catastrofi naturali e financo supportando le
organizzazioni per i diritti umani nella risoluzione di casi che coinvolgono
persone scomparse. Questa disciplina consente, inoltre, l’avanzamento
della ricerca scientifica sulla biologia e sull’anatomia umana, nonché
sui relativi aspetti culturali, migliorando, in ultima analisi, la nostra comprensione
delle popolazioni umane

A depiction of poliomyelitis in a 17th -century Piedmontese fresco?
No full textIntroduction: A potential representation of poliomyelitis is investigated in an Italian artwork. Materials and methods: A 17th century Piedmontese fresco is analyzed by combining historico-medical, palaeopathological and clinical approaches. Alternative diagnoses are considered. Results, discussion and conclusions: The man appearing in the fresco holding a crutch is characterized by an atrophic left leg reminiscent of poliomyelitic atrophic. Other congenital anomalies or cerebrovascular causes appear less likely. A reflection on the difficulty of retrospectively diagnosis poliomyelitis is offered
Variations on the Author
No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Photo-Thermal Dry Reforming of Methane with PGM-Free and PGM-Based Catalysts: A Review
No full text: Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is considered one of the most promising technologies for efficient greenhouse gas management thanks to the fact that through this reaction, it is possible to reduce CO2 and CH4 to obtain syngas, a mixture of H2 and CO, with a suitable ratio for the Fischer-Tropsch production of long-chain hydrocarbons. Two other main processes can yield H2 from CH4, i.e., Steam Reforming of Methane (SRM) and Partial Oxidation of Methane (POM), even though, not having CO2 as a reagent, they are considered less green. Recently, scientists' challenge is to overcome the many drawbacks of DRM reactions, i.e., the use of precious metal-based catalysts, the high temperatures of the process, metal particle sintering and carbon deposition on the catalysts' surfaces. To overcome these issues, one proposed solution is to implement photo-thermal dry reforming of methane in which irradiation with light is used in combination with heating to improve the efficiency of the process. In this paper, we review the work of several groups aiming to investigate the pivotal promoting role of light radiation in DRM. Focus is also placed on the catalysts' design and the progress needed for bringing DRM to an industrial scale
