    This thesis represents the development of a robust theoretical framework integrating cooperative (co-op) gameplay mechanics with educational theories, primarily focusing on enhancing learning in historic preservation education. Utilizing the advanced simulation capabilities of Unreal Engine, the study centers on the theoretical constructs that guide the creation of SILK Whispers, a proof-of-concept game set in the historically rich context of Incir Han, an Anatolian caravanserai on the Silk Roads. This framework is designed to harness interactive gameplay and AI-driven characters to facilitate a deep and engaging learning experience, emphasizing the practical application of historical preservation principles and cultural narratives. The theoretical groundwork of this study incorporates the educational theories of social constructivism, situated learning, cognitive load theory, and social learning theory, which collectively emphasize active, contextual, and collaborative learning environments. By embedding these theories into the game's design, SILK Whispers is not merely a tool for entertainment but an educational platform. It aims to promote critical thinking, ethical reasoning, teamwork, and effective communication among students, ensuring that learning is both interactive and also deeply rooted in educational objectives that represent real-world challenges in historic preservation. Future directions of this research include conducting empirical validations to assess the educational efficacy of SILK Whispers across diverse learning environments. This phase is crucial for refining the game mechanics and expanding its educational scope to include a broader array of historical settings and preservation challenges. The thesis advocates for the integration of game-based learning into traditional educational frameworks, proposing a novel approach that could potentially revolutionize teaching methods in historic preservation and beyond. This integration promises to enhance student engagement, deepen understanding of complex historical content, and foster essential skills needed in the preservation field

    4D Printing on Textiles: developing a file to fabrication framework for self-forming, composite wearables

    This research is investigating the development of self-forming wearable composite structures by 3D printing semi-elastic embossed patterns out of semi-elastic Thermoplastic Polyurethane 95 filament on pre-stretched textiles and releasing the stress after the printing has been completed. In particular, we will present and compare two methods of ‘file to fabrication’ techniques for generating self-forming textile shell structures: one based on printed patterns related to their stress line simulation and a second based on modified geometrical patterns in relation to their curvature analysis. Furthermore, we will investigate the buckling degree of the composites in relation to their fabric thickness and elasticity. Our findings will emphasize the advantages and challenges of each method as well as present a comparative table chart highlighting the relationship between material properties, pattern geometry and the formal vocabulary of the composite shells

However, in traditional design schools with fewer digital courses and more emphasis on the studio courses, an important consideration is how these skills are introduced. With this in mind, and referring to the informal teaching setup, such as workshops and student competitions, this paper describes a study comparing two pedagogical strategies based on a workshop within the curricula and a competition as an extracurricular activity.
