Apraxia in neurorehabilitation: Classification, assessment and treatment
Apraxia is a higher-order motor disorder impairing the ability to correctly perform skilled, purposive movements as the result of neurological disorders most commonly stroke, dementia and movement disorders. It is increasingly recognised that apraxia negatively influences activities of daily living (ADL). Early diagnosis and treatment should be part of the neurorehabilitation programme. The aim of the present article is to describe the most important subtypes of apraxia such as ideational and ideomotor apraxia as well as their impact on ADL and outcome. Furthermore, the relationship to associated disorders such as aphasia is discussed. Finally, strategies concerning assessment, management and treatment of the disorder are presented

Neurorehabilitation Topics in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis: From Outcome Measurements to Rehabilitation Interventions
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system and the most common cause of nontraumatic disability in young adults. It is a heterogeneous disease associated with long-term disability, negatively influencing quality of life. Disease-modifying pharmacological therapies may decrease activity and progression of the disease, and symptomatic pharmacological treatments may reduce complaints to a certain extent; however, MS patients mostly still suffer from several neurologic deficits in the course of their disease. Consequently, specific comprehensive nonpharmacological rehabilitation interventions are needed to reduce disability to obtain better independence in activities of daily living, resulting in an optimal quality of life. Here the authors give an overview of the main sensorimotor symptoms in MS. Some of the most commonly used standardized outcome assessments are presented, and existing evidence-based motor rehabilitation strategies are described
A novel virtual reality glove system with integrated vibro-tactile feedback for Parkinson’s disease: a usability study
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is one of the most common neuro-degenerative diseases worldwide, affecting patients’ ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL), such as cooking and dressing, and consequently decreasing Quality of Life (QoL). Most ADL require dexterous skills which are often impaired in PD. Pharmacological therapy is often not completely effective and hasside effects. Tailored and engaging rehabilitation interventions aimed at practicing such dexterous ADL are therefore necessary at different stages of the disease. Besides the traditional physical and occupational interventions, Virtual Reality (VR) technology has proven a viable tool to facilitate such rehabilitation programs by providing flexibility in design and simultaneously creating pleasant and immersive environments. It is suggested that implementing haptic feedback into a Virtual Environment (VE) could further boost motor learning during training and improve patients’ compliance to the practise. Till date, haptic feedback during VR training, has not been evaluated in PD. The purpose of the present study was twofold. First, a novel VR haptic glove system, consisting of existing VRFree gloves integrated with a Haptic Device (HD) to provide Vibrotactile Feedback (VTF) throuh the use of Linear Resonant Actuators (LRA)s, was developed. This newly developed system was then technically tested with regard to its latency, intensities and compatibility. Second, the system was evaluated on its performance and usability in both healthy subjects and PD patients by means of a novel VR grasping task. Technical tests yielded positive results; a latency of 13 +- 12 ms is found, the HD is able to convey different intensities and the HD produces no visually noticed interference with the VRFree gloves. The user tests revealed positive results on increased grasp performance with the VTF in terms of grasp time and smoothness among healthy subjects and a good Haptic Experience (HX) evaluation among all subjects. An average System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 75 suggest good usability of the overall system. This usability study demonstrates for the first time that VTF on the fingertips during VR rehabilitation is feasible to train dexterity related ADL in PD. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
