Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, parton distributions, and fragmentation functions at a future electron-ion collider

    No full text
We present a quantitative assessment of the impact a future electron-ion collider would have in the determination of parton distribution functions in the proton and parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions through semi-inclusive deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering data. Specifically, we estimate the kinematic regions for which the forthcoming data are expected to have the most significant impact in the precision of these distributions, computing the respective correlation and sensitivity coefficients. Using a reweighting technique for the sets of simulated data with their realistic uncertainties for two different center-of-mass energies, we analyze the resulting new sets of parton distribution functions and fragmentation functions, which have significantly reduced uncertainties.Fil: Aschenauer, Elke C.. Ratios of helicity amplitudes for hard exclusive ρ0\rho^0 electroproduction on transversely polarized protons

    No full text
The HERMES experiment collected a wealth of deep-inelastic scattering data using the 27.6 GeV polarized lepton beam at HERA and various pure gas targets, both unpolarized and polarized. This allowed for a series of diverse measurements. Among them are measurements of hard exclusive meson production, which provide information on generalized parton distributions (GPDs), in a complementary way to, e.g., deeply virtual Compton scattering. Access to these GPDs is possible through the measurement of helicity-amplitude ratios. Helicity-amplitude ratios from exclusive ρ0\rho^0 production on transversely polarized hydrogen are presented and discussed as well as compared to the theoretical ‘GK’ model

Selected HERMES results on semi-inclusive meson production

The HERMES experiment at DESY in Hamburg collected semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering data using the 27.6 GeV HERA lepton beam and various gaseous light and nuclear targets. Results of charge-separated hadron-identified multiplicities and multiplicity ratios, measured on light and heavier targets, are shown as well as azimuthal momentsmeasured fromunpolarized hydrogen and deuteriumtargets. Furthermore, Sivers and Collins amplitudes, extracted from measurements on a transversely polarized hydrogen target, are presented
