Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Dissemination and implementation research in physical activity promotion
No full textOndanks het feit dat regelmatige fysieke activiteit gezondheidsvoordelen oplevert, behaalt een aanzienlijk deel van de volwassenen en de schoolgaande jeugd de richtlijnen voor fysieke activiteit niet. Hoewel er effectieve interventiestudies ter bevordering van fysieke activiteit bestaan voor beide doelgroepen, blijft het voor gezondheidswerkers en beleidmakers een uitdaging om dergelijke interventies op grotere schaal te verspreiden en implementeren. Een gebrek aan implementatierichtlijnen en een gebrek aan informatie over de disseminatie (verspreiding) van evidence‐based interventiestudies ter bevordering van fysieke activiteit dragen bij tot deze uitdaging.
Bijgevolg omvat deze thesis disseminatie‐ en implementatieonderzoek naar de bevordering van fysieke activiteit in Vlaanderen (België). Dergelijk onderzoek is belangrijk om effectieve interventies ter bevordering van fysieke activiteit beter af te stemmen op de praktijk, om de belangrijkste componenten van deze interventies te vertalen naar bruikbare implementatierichtlijnen, en om overheidsinvesteringen in de ruime disseminatie van deze interventies te verantwoorden.
Het disseminatie‐ en implementatieonderzoek in deze thesis bestaat uit drie studies die gericht zijn op scholen en twee studies op de community. De eerste scholenstudie gericht op scholen rapporteert een implementatiekader voor extracurriculaire programma’s voor fysieke activiteit gestoeld op samenwerkingsverbanden tussen de school en partners in de buurt. Op basis van socio‐ecologische principes voor gezondheidspromotie en een synthese van onderzoek biedt het implementatiekader vijf strategieën aan voor de promotie van fysieke activiteit, alsook bijhorende richtlijnen voor de samenwerking tussen de school en partners in de buurt. Met het implementatiekader als stafmaat bleek uit de tweede studie dat er meer inspanningen nodig zijn om zowel lagere als secundaire scholen te ondersteunen bij de implementatie van naschoolse sportprogramma’s, participatie van ouders en leerlingen, en een schoolbeleid rond samenwerking met partners in de buurt. Dezelfde studie toonde ook aan dat zowel persoonlijke als omgevingsfactoren verband hielden met de implementatie van de strategieën en richtlijnen uit het implementatiekader. De derde studie vond ook significante verbanden tussen factoren gesitueerd op verschillende socio‐ecologische niveaus en het voorzien van naschoolse sportprogramma’s in lagere en secundaire scholen.
De studie van de disseminatie van het project ‘10.000 stappen’ in Vlaanderen was zeer effectief in het creëren van projectbekendheid bij organisaties (90%), met lagere scores voor projecttoepassing (36%) en ‐implementatie (52%). De bereikte inwoners (35%) rapporteerden meer fysieke activiteit in de vrije tijd dan niet‐bereikte inwoners. Uit de studie van de duurzaamheid van ‘10.000 stappen’ bleek dat 50% van de organisaties het project continueerden bij de tweede meting en de implementatiescore bleef stabiel (58%). Projectverankering was matig. De bereikte inwoners bleven actiever tijdens de vrije tijd en rapporteerden bijkomend meer fysieke activiteit thuis en meer matige fysieke activiteit dan niet‐bereikte inwoners. Projecttoepassing en ‐continuering waren veralgemeenbaar overheen de organisaties uitten zich meer in projectcyclussen dan als een onafgebroken projectwerking. Beide studies toonden aan dat ‘10.000 stappen’ een acceptabel potentieel heeft voor disseminatie en het creëren van een duurzame impact. Er is evenwel meer
anticipatie op projectaanpassingen vereist, alsook meer voorbereidingstijd voor een efficiënte schakelstructuur, en oplossingen voor personeelswissels en de beperkte projectevaluatie.
De scholenstudies tonen aan dat kennis en bijscholingen, als onderdeel van een integrale aanpak, potentiële sleutelfactoren zijn om de implementatie van bewegingsprogramma’s in lagere en secundaire scholen te ondersteunen. Meer bepaald bijscholingen omtrent samenwerkingsverbanden tussen de school en buurt, omtrent Brede School, en omtrent schoolgebonden promotie van fysieke activiteit lijken verantwoorde investeringen om de implementatie te bevorderen. Aangezien het voorgestelde implementatiekader evidence‐based richtlijnen voor samenwerkingsverbanden en schoolgebonden promotie van fysieke activiteit aanreikt, kan dit kader verankerd worden in bijscholingen en opleidingen hoger onderwijs. Verder is een efficiëntere schakelstructuur aangewezen om de implementatie van schoolgebonden bewegingsprogramma’s en gemeenschapsprojecten zoals ‘10.000 stappen’ te ondersteunen. Dergelijke schakelstructuur tussen Vlaamse beleidsmakers en scholen of lokale diensten wordt best vertegenwoordigd door opgeleide verbindingsfiguren (bv. Follo’s) en regionale diensten die inspelen op lokale noden. Om de toepassing en continuering van gemeenschapsprojecten zoals ‘10.000 stappen’ te bevorderen dient op zowel het projectdesign, de lokale organisaties, als de bredere context ingespeeld worden. Projecten dienen namelijk ‘verpakt’ te worden als kant‐en‐klare producten, met ruimte voor lokale aanpassingen en profilering (design). Ook regelmatige en directe contacten met diensthoofden (organisaties) en externe ondersteuning en
subsidies (context) zijn belangrijk. De beperkte gerapporteerde projectevaluatie wijst op een behoefte van lokale en regionale interventiewerkers aan bruikbare evaluatietools om de impact van hun gemeenschapsprojecten te meten. Het RE‐AIM kader is hiervoor een geschikt instrument. Bijscholingen op basis van RE‐AIM en meer (begrote) middelen voor evaluatie zijn dus aangewezen.
Longitudinaal onderzoek kan definitief uitsluitsel brengen over de richting van de associaties tussen socio‐ecologische factoren en de implementatie van schoolgebonden bewegingsprogramma’s. Verder dienen interventiestudies op basis van het implementatiekader voor scholen de impact op de fysieke activiteit van leerlingen met lage socio‐economische status of overgewicht na te gaan.
Toekomstig onderzoek kan ook bepalen op welke praktische wijze de strategieën van het implementatiekader kunnen geïntegreerd worden met de eindtermen Lichamelijke Opvoeding. Net zoals voor ‘10.000 stappen’ dient de disseminatie en implementatie van andere gemeenschapsprojecten onderzocht te worden met het RE‐AIM kader om vergelijking mogelijk te maken. Tenslotte dienen partnerships tussen academici en gezondheidswerkers een hoofdcriterium te worden om de praktijkrelevantie van toekomstige onderzoeksbeurzen te garanderen
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
