Le piccole scuole dei piccoli comuni : un atlante veneto
No full textDai paesi di montagna, alle frazioni sparse nelle campagne, ai piccoli centri urbani della “periferia diffusa” in pianura, fino alle isole della laguna nord. È la geografia delle piccole scuole in Veneto, presenza capillare e con forte aderenza al territorio, un patrimonio di architetture spesso considerato “ordinario” e ai margini dell’attuale dibattito sull’edilizia scolastica. Composto da consistenti quantità in termini numerici, si declina in architetture di modeste dimensioni e spesso di prive di qualità, tuttavia presenze significative per la comunità. Benchè continuamente esposte a rischio chiusura a causa dello spopolamento, sono infatti garanzia di iniziative attraverso le quali possono promuovere la cura dei luoghi, oltre che dei loro stessi spazi. Ricostruirne la geografia è parte di una strategia non solo ricognitiva ma anche operativa, funzionale alla definizione di un progetto di riqualificazione che ne registri la qualità intrinseca e le reali possibilità di adeguamento degli spazi rispetto alle nuove dinamiche dell’apprendimento e nell’ottica di una loro trasformazione in “architetture della comunità”. La lettura analitico-descrittiva degli aspetti dimensionali, spaziali e di relazione con il contesto, condotta su un significativo numero di casi studio e ricomposta in un atlante tematico, in parte esposto nel quaderno, ha messo a fuoco condizioni e potenzialità per sperimentazioni architettoniche e d’uso

No full textPalinsesto africano è il titolo dell’immagine che introduce questo breve testo, intreccio tra alcuni viaggi, come architetto e ricercatrice, compiuti nell’Africa sub-sahariana tra il 2012 e il 2017, e le tracce dei viaggi e degli studi di Patrick Dujarric, di Alan Vaughan-Richards, architetti europei ma africani di adozione, e di Demas N. Nwoko, architetto-artista nigeriano, ancor oggi attivo, influenzato dai contatti culturali con Europa e America nei primi anni ’60. Architetti appartenenti a un’esperienza ‘altra’ rispetto al Movimento Moderno, con il quale essi si sono pure confrontati, e che hanno cercato di declinare, nel contesto specifico dei singoli Paesi, in possibili architetture moderne ibridate con la tradizione. ‘Altro’ e ‘altrove’ sono termini che compaiono spesso nel testo, a sottolineare non solo, e non tanto, la distanza geografica di questi luoghi, ma anche, implicitamente, la necessità di trovare una chiave di lettura alternativa.
Il viaggio ha richiesto un continuo esercizio di riconoscimento di una pluralità di tracce appartenenti a culture differenti che si sovrappongono, si intrecciano, mescolando architetture, luoghi e tempi diversi. Ed è così che letti in filigrana, scoprendo e rintracciando risonanze, analogie, sottili corrispondenze o reinvenzioni, alcuni frammenti di viaggio si sono ricomposti

No full textThe article discusses the cycle of videos called “Children's Games” by Belgian artist Francis Alÿs, which portrays children playing alone or in groups in outdoor and urban spaces around the world. While some games may be associated with a specific cultural or geographic tradition, they are games that have been passed down from generation to generation and suggest the idea that play is a fundamental human need. The article explores the concept that play, like festive moments, is imbued with ritual and is an activity that has always been part of human existence. The article cites the philosopher Friedrich Schiller and cultural historian Johan Huizinga to discuss the importance of play as an activity that blends the sensible and the super-sensible harmoniously and is expressed through collective interpretation of life and the world. Furthermore, the article notes that play, like festive moments, has a ritualistic nature that transcends its functional purpose and can colonize public spaces, bringing added value to the urban environment
The role of small towns in sustainable rural development
Full text linkAlthough the African continent is still the least densely populated, it is also an area where demographic pressure is growing continuously; in general, however, development patterns have been unsustainable and helped multiply negative factors.
In this context, the sustainable development of the urban areas that are somewhere between the city and country in size becomes an important theme: on the one hand, it is an opportunity to invert the trend towards the polarisation of the large urban centres and the ensuing unchecked urbanisation; on the other, it is a means of keeping under control spontaneous or rather unplanned urbanisation in rural areas that might lead to problems in managing the territory. A small rural centre north of Benin, Matéri was chosen to start an experimental project with the aim of developing a new, rural development model as an alternative to western-style planning, able to create a self-sufficient economy in which housing and infrastructures are interwoven with natural resource management, the role of family agriculture, and the reciprocal relations between city and brousse. This research was carried out in the environmental sustainability Atelier of IUAV University Venice, together with the local community and institutions, to provide a solution to indications in the city’s document plan

Full text linkAn innovative approach, a sort of synthesis between the principles of Tro-pical Architecture and the elements of local tradition, is that undertaken by the architect-artist Demas Nwoko, who formalized it in the Natural Syn-tesis manifesto before, and then in the magazine New Culture: A Review of African Arts. It is the result of a personal poetic expression characteri-zed by a high degree of experimentation, on which the period spent at the École des Beaux-Arts, the trips to Europe and the United States certainly had a decisive influence.A little-known but consolidated design experience, inextricably linked to the climate, place and materials; an "other" but not necessarily vernacular modernity, which reflects the cosmopolitanism of Nigeria in the post-co-lonial years
