Integration of LiPb loops for WCLL BB of European DEMO
The eutectic alloy Lithium Lead (LiPb) enriched at 90 % in 6Li is the breeder material for one of the candidate European Breeding Blanket (BB) concepts. Currently under investigation for DEMO reactor, the Water Cooled Lithium-Lead (WCLL), and for the WCLL Test Blanket Module (TBM) that will be qualified in the ITER reactor. The LiPb alloy is used as tritium breeder, neutron multiplier and tritium carrier. The design of the LiPb loops is currently under study and the conceptual design of the main loop components has been completed. For this reason, it becomes mandatory to proceed with the integration of the LiPb loops in the EU DEMO Tokamak building, checking the consistency of the different systems design to be integrated in DEMO reactor building. CAD design and integration of the entire LiPb loops are shown taking into account the building areas assigned, the interfaces with the other systems and the requirement related to the LiPb loop functions. An initial layout of the pipework and the position of the main components have been defined on the basis of the following design requirements: (I) gamma radiation shielding of the components and the pipework; (II) target flow velocity of the LiPb; (III) thermal expansion of the pipes; (IV) possibility to drain the entire loop; (V) redundancy of the loops; (VI) remote maintenance; (VII) position in the building and dimensions of the storage tanks. The 3D model of the entire loops has been provided and integrated in DEMO Tokamak building pointing out the issues related to the interfaces with the other systems and with the building itself
Experimental Activities with the IELLLO Lithium-Lead Facility
Fusion power offers the prospect of an almost inexhaustible source of energy for future generations. Although this may be true, it also presents so far serious scientific and engineering challenges. Breeding Blanket is one of key components of future fusion reactors, since it directly involves tritium breeding and energy extraction, both of them critical to development of fusion power. To deal with the development of Breeding Blankets, ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) designed and built a lead lithium loop (IELLLO: Integrated European Lead Lithium LOop): the experiment aims to support R&D activities for the conceptual and preliminary design of the European test blanket systems. IELLLO was completed, installed and operated at ENEA Brasimone Research Centre. The purpose of this work is to describe the experimental activities that have been carried out concerning the qualification of the facility, and relative instrumentations, for lead lithium application
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Numerical Simulations with RELAP5-3D and RELAP5/mod3.3 of the Second Experimental Campaign on In-Box LOCA Transients for HCLL TBS
In-box LOCA was identified as one of the worst accidental scenarios for the HCLL TBS (Helium Cooled Lithium-Lead Test Blanket System). Aiming to experimentally analyze the consequences of this transient, ENEA designed and built THALLIUM (Test HAmmer in Lead LIthiUM), a facility that reproduces the LiPb loop of the HCLL TBS. Two experimental campaigns were carried out by simulating the rupture of a stiffening plate and the related helium injection in the LiPb loop. The obtained experimental data were used to check the capabilities of RELAP5 system code to reproduce the pressure wave propagation that follows this accident. The first simulations were made with RELAP5-3D using LBE (Lead–Bismuth Eutectic) as a system fluid, as the thermophysical properties of LiPb are tabulated only up to a maximum value of 40 bar in this version of the code. Then, LiPb properties were implemented in RELAP5/mod3.3, after selecting the proper correlations from a literature review. This work summarizes the numerical simulations of the second experimental campaign, which was simulated with both versions of the code. The simulations highlight that the code is able to accurately reproduce the experimental results and that RELAP5-3D is slightly more precise than RELAP5/mod3.3 in predicting the pressure trends
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Crossover of two power laws in the anomalous diffusion of a two lipid membrane
Molecular dynamics simulations of a bi-layer membrane made by the same number of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycero-3-phospho-ethanolamine and palmitoyl-oleoyl phosphatidylserine lipids reveal sub-diffusional motion, which presents a crossover between two different power laws. Fractional Brownian motion is the stochastic mechanism that governs the motion in both regimes. The location of the crossover point is justified with simple geometrical arguments and is due to the activation of the mechanism of circumrotation of lipids about each other
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
