Teacher leadership: impact of a professional development intervention on the perspectives, beliefs, and challenges of teachers in managerial roles

Il presente contributo si propone di esplorare la percezione degli insegnanti nei confronti degli ostacoli, delle barriere percepite e delle convinzioni legate alla leadership dei docenti, con particolare attenzione al cambiamento indotto da un intervento di coaching individuale. A tal fine è stato somministrato un questionario, adattato da strumenti precedentemente validati nella letteratura internazionale di riferimento, a un campione di 48 docenti ricoprenti ruoli di management in 12 istituti scolastici siciliani. I risultati suggeriscono l'efficacia del coaching nel modulare positivamente le prospettive dei docenti e promuovere una visione integrata della leadership degli insegnanti.Teacher leadership plays a crucial role in encouraging active engagement of teachers in guiding and sharing responsibilities, not only enhancing organizational effectiveness but also significantly shaping their professional growth. This paper aims to explore teachers' perception of obstacles, perceived barriers, and beliefs related to teacher leadership, with a specific focus on the change induced by an individual coaching intervention. For this purpose, a questionnaire, adapted from previously validated instruments in the international literature, was administered to a sample of 48 teachers in managerial roles across 12 Sicilian schools. The results suggest the effectiveness of coaching in positively shaping teachers' perspectives and promoting an integrated vision of teacher leadership

No full textL’irrompere della pandemia ha rappresentato una possibilità di rinnovamento per il mondo accademico. Con la chiusura improvvisa di tutte le attività in presenza, le Università hanno dovuto fare i conti con la necessità di salvaguardare i percorsi formativi degli studenti e delle studentesse. Soprattutto quelle istituzioni (la maggior parte in Italia), che non avevano mai affrontato il tema dell’erogazione a distanza delle attività didattiche, sono state costrette a fronteggiare la novità di un mondo dell’apprendimento “a distanza” (Piazza, 2020). Ovviamente anche l’Università di Catania si è trovata a fronteggiare questa situazione. Nello specifico, il Corso di laurea in Scienze dell’Educazione e della formazione (CdS L-19), risolto velocemente il problema dell’erogazione dei corsi, ha cercato delle soluzioni maggiormente calibrate sulle necessità degli studenti per favorire la loro esperienza di tirocinio, considerata un’attività formativa essenziale per costruire la propria identità professionale come educatore/educatrice. Commuting: a further stress factor for working people. Evidence from the European Community. Part I: A review
No full textAbout 100 million workers in the European Community commute to and from work daily. A review of the available data shows that commuting has increased in recent decades as rising car ownership has produced a more dispersed pattern of residential and job locations. In general, average commuting durations are falling, although average commuting distances are increasing as a result of faster commuting modes. However, the number of very long duration journeys have also increased, albeit from a small level. Up to now most research has focused on transport and land use issues, while very few studies have dealt with its impact on health, safety and social life of the workers. The available data indicate commuting to be a stress factor not only because of transport modes, but also by its interference with living and working conditions: namely, reduction of time available for discretionary leisure activities and increased absenteeism at workplace. Long-term effects on health have not been adequately investigated. Well integrated policies and strategies concerning the different aspects of this problem (transport, health, work organisation, residential planning) must be developed both at the local and international levels to facilitate adequate solutions for this stressful condition

No full textAmmonium-induced inhibition of nitrate utilization was monitored in cell suspensions of the unicellular alga Cyanidium caldarium. It was found that the inhibition followed an exponential pattern with a t1/2 value of about 1.5 min in cells previously grown under conditions of excess nitrate, and of about 15 min in cells grown under conditions of severe nitrate limitation. In the latter cells only, a pretreatment with cycloheximide greatly increased the t1/2 value of inhibition. Also the resumption of nitrate utilization when ammonium was depleted followed an exponential pattern with a t1/2 value of about 4.5 min. Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that inhibition of nitrate utilization occurs at the level of nitrate reductase activity. © 1981 Springer-Verlag

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
