SOLAR NEUTRINOS AND NUCLEAR-REACTIONS IN THE SOLAR INTERIOR
We discuss the results of Homestake and Kamioka experiments, showing that - if the results of these experiments are taken at their face values - one way to save "conventional neutrinos" is to look for a nuclear solution decreasing both 7Be and 8B neutrino fluxes with respect to the predictions of the standard solar models. Recent GALLEX results appear in agreement with such a conclusion. We discuss the sensitivity of the 8B and 7Be neutrino fluxes to the behaviour of the low energy 3He+3He and 3He + 4He cross sections. We derive analytically the dependence of the neutrino fluxes on the low energy nuclear cross sections. This analytical approach has been supported by numerical experiments based on a new Standard Solar Model. In the non-resonant case, reduction of the neutrino fluxes to about 1/3 of the Standard Solar Model could be obtained if the true value of S34(0) is three times smaller than the presently accepted extrapolated value. Alternatively, one should have S33(0) wrong by a factor nine. A resonance in the 3He + 3He channel could yield a sufficient reduction of 8B neutrinos and, furthermore, a suppression of 7Be neutrinos larger than that of 8B neutrinos provided that ER ≤ 21.4 keV. an energy region so far almost unexplored experimentally. We show that future experiments in underground laboratories should be able to explore the region down to ER = 10 keV with a significant sensitivity. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Solar neutrinos: beyond standard solar models
After a short survey of the physics of solar neutrinos, giving an overview of hydrogen burning reactions, predictions of standard solar models and results of solar neutrino experiments, we discuss the solar-model-independent indications in favour of non-standard neutrino properties. The experimental results appear to be in contradiction with each other, even after disregarding some experiments: unless electron neutrinos disappear in their trip from the sun to the earth, the fluxes of intermediate energy neutrinos (those from 7Be electron capture and from the CNO cycle) turn out to be unphysically negative, or extremely reduced with respect to standard solar model predictions. Next we review extensively the non-standard solar models built as attempts to solve the solar neutrino puzzle. The dependence of the central solar temperature on chemical composition, opacity, age and on the values of the astrophysical S-factors for hydrogen-burning reactions is carefully investigated. The fate of Li and Be in stars and in the laboratory
We connect the observed under-abundances of Li and Be in dwarfs, with recent results on nuclear cross sections at low energies: for collisions of protons with atomic or molecular targets, the measured cross sections seem too high with respect to extrapolations for bare nuclei. Phenomenologically, these anomalous nuclear interactions can be described in terms of an effective screening potential U-lab in the range of few hundred eV: in the presence of the electron cloud, nuclei become more transparent to each other as if the effective collision energy is aumented by U-lab. This implies that fusion cross sections are enlarged and at the same time elastic cross sections are lowered. If something similar occurs in stellar plasma, the nuclear burning temperatures are lowered, whereas diffusion processes are enhanced. We find that the observed Li and Be abundances in the Hyades and in the Sun can be reproduced for effective screening potentials of the plasma in the range of 600-700 eV, close to that found by experiments in the laboratory

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
