HPLC Analysis, Optimization of Extraction Conditions and Biological Evaluation of Corylopsis coreana Uyeki Flos
A method for the separation and quantification of three flavonoids and one isocoumarin by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed and validated. Four constituents present in a crude ethanolic extract of the flowers of Coryloposis coreana Uyeki, were analyzed. Bergenin, quercetin, quercitrin and isosalipurposide were used as calibration standards. In the present study, an excellent linearity was obtained with an r2 higher than 0.999. The chromatographic peaks showed good resolution. In combination with other validation data, including precision, specificity, and accuracy, this method demonstrated good reliability and sensitivity, and can be conveniently used for the quantification of bergenin, quercetin, quercitrin and isosalipurposide in the crude ethanolic extract of C. coreana Uyeki flos. Furthermore, the plant extracts were analyzed with HPLC to determine the four constituents and compositional differences in the extracts obtained under different extraction conditions. Several extracts of them which was dependent on the ethanol percentage of solvent were also analyzed for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. One hundred % ethanolic extract from C. coreana Uyeki flos showed the best antimicrobial activity against the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain. Eighty % ethanolic extract showed the best antioxidant activity and phenolic content. Taken of all, these results suggest that the flower of C. coreana Uyeki flos may be a useful source for the cure and/or prevention of septic arthritis, and the validated method was useful for the quality control of C. coreana Uyeki
Optimized Extract from<i> Corylopsis coreana</i> Uyeki (Hamamelidaceae) Flos Inhibits Osteoclast Differentiation
Osteoporosis is a metabolic disorder that decreases the stability against fractures of the spine, femur, and radius by weakening the strength and integrity of bones. Receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand signaling ultimately activated nuclear factor-activated T cells c1, a major transcription factor for osteoclast formation. This study researched the effects of Corylopsis coreana (C. coreana) Uyeki flos extracts on the antiosteoclastic potential of macrophages and the phytochemicals contained therein. The alcoholic extract of C. coreana Uyeki flos inhibited the differentiation of osteoclast. We carried out the experiments of the pattern of differentiation of osteoclasts based on the alcoholic percentage of extracts. Among them, 80% alcoholic extract showed the highest inhibitory effect. The alcoholic extract was composed of phytochemicals such as bergenin, quercetin, and quercitrin. This extract inhibited not only mRNA expression levels of NFATc1, osteoclast-associated receptor (OSCAR), cathepsin K, and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), but also the translational expression of NFATc1. The inhibitory effect for osteoclast differentiation of the alcoholic extract was confirmed using the resorption pit assay. This is the first scientific report of the antiosteoclastic effects of C. coreana Uyeki flos extract, which can be applied therapeutically for the treatment of osteoporosis.</jats:p
Chemometrics approach for species identification of pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. and Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki: -Species classification using near-infrared spectroscopy in combination with multivariate analysis
A model was designed to identify wood species between Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki and Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. using the near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy in combination with principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). In the PCA using all of the spectra, Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki and Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. could not be classified. In the PCA using the spectrum that has been measured in sapwood, however, Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki and Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. could be identified. In particular, it was clearly classified by sapwood in radial section. And more, these two species could be perfectly identified using PLS-DA prediction model. The best performance in species identification was obtained when the second derivative spectra was used; the prediction accuracy was 100%. For prediction model, the Rp 2 value was 0.86 and the RMSEP was 0.38 in second derivative spectra. It was verified that the model designed by NIR spectroscopy with PLS-DA is suitable for species identification between Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki and Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc

The chloroplast genome sequence of Aconitum puchonroenicum Uyeki & Sakata, a rare endemic species in Korea, was characterized through de novo assembly with next-generation sequencing data. The chloroplast genome is 155,631 bp in length and contains 4 rRNA genes, 29 tRNA genes, and 78 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated a close relationship of A. pseudolaeve with other species belonging to Aconitum subgn. Lycoctonum in Ranunculaceae
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

SIRT1 Activation Enhancing 8,3′-Neolignans from the Twigs of <i>Corylopsis coreana</i> Uyeki
Three undescribed 8,3′-neolignans, corynol (1), 3-methoxy-corynol (2) and 3′-deoxy-corynol (3), together with two bergenin derivatives, three flavonoids, two hydrolysable tannins and six simple phenolic compounds, were isolated from the twigs of Corylopsis coreana Uyeki. The structures of the 8,3′-neolignans were elucidated by analyzing their NMR, HRESIMS and ECD spectra. All the isolated compounds were evaluated for their SIRT1 stimulatory activity, and 3′-deoxy-corynol (3) showed SIRT1 stimulation activity.
