Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textCelem rozważań jest zbadanie zmian struktury wydatków konsumpcyjnych na osobę w gospodarstwie domowym wiejskim i miejskim w Polsce oraz sprawdzenie, czy struktura wydatków konsumpcyjnych wiejskich gospodarstw domowych upodabnia się do struktury wydatków konsumpcyjnych miejskich gospodarstw domowych. Artykuł ma charakter badawczy. W opracowaniu przeanalizowano zmiany struktury wydatków konsumpcyjnych na osobę w gospodarstwie domowym wiejskim i miejskim w latach 2006-2013 na podstawie danych z Budżetów gospodarstw
domowych GUS. Do określenia podobieństwa struktury wykorzystano miary Braya-Curtisa oraz Canberra. Przeprowadzone obliczenia pokazały, że wartość wydatków konsumpcyjnych na osobę w gospodarstwie domowym rosła szybciej w gospodarstwach domowych wiejskich niż miejskich. Pozytywnym zjawiskiem jest szybszy wzrost wydatków na rekreację i kulturę oraz na restauracje i hotele w gospodarstwach domowych wiejskich niż w miejskich. domowym wiejskim i miejskim jest bardzo zbliżona.An aim of considerations is to survey the changes of the structure of consumer per capita spending in the rural and urban household in Poland and to check whether the structure of consumer spending by rural households assimilates with the structure of consumer spending in case of urban households. The article is of the research nature. In her study, the author analysed the changes
in the structure of consumer per capita spending in the rural and urban household in 2006-2013 based on the data of CSO’s Households’ Budgets. To determine the similarity of the structures, there were used the Bray-Curtis dissimilarity and Canberra
measures. The carried out computations showed that the value of per capita consumer spending in the household was growing faster in rural households than in urban ones. A positive
phenomenon is the faster growth of spending on recreation and culture as well as on restaurants and hotels in rural households than in urban ones. The structure of per capita consumer spending in the rural and urban household is very similar.Цель рассуждений – изучить изменения структуры потребительских расходов на одного члена в сельском и городском домохозяйстве в Польше, а также проверить, сходится ли структура потребительских расходов сельских домохозяйств со структурой потребительских расходов городских домохозяйств. No full textCelem opracowania jest zbadanie tendencji w zakresie korzystania gospodarstw domowych z rynku depozytowo-kredytowego w Polsce na tle zmian zachodzących w pozostałych krajach Unii Europejskiej. Opracowanie ma formę artykułu badawczego. W badaniu wykorzystano prezentowane za pośrednictwem Eurostat dane dotyczące rocznych sektorowych rachunków finansowych za lata 1995-2012. W wyniku przeprowadzonych analiz zaobserwowano, że występuje tendencja do wzrostu zadłużenia gospodarstw domowych w relacji do PKB w krajach UE. Zauważono również, że występuje zjawisko konwergencji między krajami w zakresie kredytów i depozytów gospodarstw domowych wyrażonego w relacji do PKB, silniejsze w przypadku kredytów i słabsze w przypadku depozytów. Zmiany zachodzące w zakresie relacji kredytów i depozytów gospodarstw domowych w Polsce są podobne do tych zachodzących w pozostałych krajach, które przystąpiły do UE w 2004 roku i później.An aim of the study is to survey the tendencies as regards the use by households of the market for credits and deposits in Poland against the background of the changes occurring in other countries of the European Union. The study has the form of research article. In her research, the author used the presented via Eurostat the
data concerning annual sectoral financial accounts for the years 1995-2012. In result of the carried out analyses, it was observed that there was the tendency for growth of households’ indebtedness in relation to GDP in the EU countries. It was also noticed that there took place the phenomenon of convergence between countries as regards households’ credits and deposits expressed in the relation to GDP, stronger in the case of credits and weaker in the case of deposits. The changes occurring in the field of the relation of households’ credits and deposits in Poland
are similar to those taking place in other countries which accessed the EU in 2004 and later.Цель разработки – изучить тенденцию в области пользования домохозяйствами услугами депозитно-кредитного рынка в Польше на фоне изменений, происходящих в остальных странах Европейского Союза. Разработка имеет форму исследовательской статьи. В исследовании использовали представленные посредством Евростата данные, касающиеся ежегодних секторных финансовых отчетов за период 1995-2012 гг. В результате проведенных анализов заметили, что выступает тенденция к росту задолженности домохозяйств по отношению к ВВП в странах ЕС. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Full text linkThe aim of the paper was to present the value of rural and urban household consumer goods and services
expenditures under changes of their income. Consumption expenditures per capita in households on rural
areas are lower than in urban areas. The highest increase of consumption expenditures as a result of per
capita disposable income increase was observed in expenditures on: communication, furnishing, household
equipment and routine maintenance of the house and food and non-alcoholic beverages both in rural and
urban households. In urban households with an increase of per capita income spending on recreation and
culture, pocket money and transport increased while in rural household expenditure on miscellaneous goods
and services increased
