DHB-KEY - A Diffie-Hellman Key Distribution Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

    No full text
Many sensor network applications require secure communication between sensor nodes and the sink. This paper presents a key distribution scheme based on the well known Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange mechanism. The DHB-KEY scheme is performed in two stages. The first stage is carried out in a secure environment before network deployment. The second stage is carried out periodically using a single broadcast message. Each node arrives at a unique key it shares with the sink. This paper presents a first evaluation and a prototype implementation of the protocol. We have found that the presented key distribution approach uses energy and communication resources efficiently and has a low deployment complexity

The 12th century bronze doors of Barisanus of Trani in Trani, Ravello and Monreale.

The bronze and brass doors of the 11th and 12th centuries represent the largest group of medieval monumental bronzes still preserved today in Europe. Of the less than 30 doors that have survived, three, the doors of Trani, Ravello and Monreale, were made by Barisanus of Trani. In this work, we present, for the first time, chemical analyses of the metal parts of all the doors and an in-depth study of their production, showing how a detailed observation of the casting characteristics provides information on the chronological order of the doors studied. This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion in art history regarding the chronological order of the construction of the doors. Moreover, the paper demonstrates the potential of scaled orthometric images as a basis for art historical and production-related questions

Jack Alive / Martin Dead : The Location of the "Author" in Jack London\u27s Martin Eden

    No full text
This essay is an attempt to read Martin Eden, Jack Londonʼs autobiographical novel, in terms of the inextricable relationship between the author and the protagonist. Critics have often taken the unbalanced plot and the lack of ironic distance between narrator and character in Martin Eden as the technical weakness of London, but this paper argues that the achievement of this novel owes a great deal to the attachment of London to Martin. The unbalanced structure is a necessary product of the severe struggle of the author to kill his romantic alter ego. // Martin, who aspires to win Ruth Morse, tries to cross class boundaries by making a career of a writer. Even after realizing the emptiness of Ruth, who turns out to be nothing but a typical figure of the bourgeoisie, he somehow persists in loving her. The notion underlying here is that, for Martin, love, career and art are fundamentally inseparable. He objects to the aestheteʼs view of Brissenden on account of his separation of art from career. Martinʼs identity and life consist only in the triunity of love/career/art; the alternative is the repudiation of life. Thus, the unnatural delay of his disappointment in love can be regarded as Londonʼs strategy to set the suicide of Martin as the necessary consequence of the story. // By finishing the story and killing Martin, London finally detaches himself from Martin, reconstructs his self, and, unlike Martin, survives as a professional writer. In this sense, Martin Eden is a story about “writerʼs self-reconstruction.

Art and History of the Bronze Door of Benevento Cathedral

Incarnating Authority. A Critical Account of Authority in the Church

    No full text
The articles of this collection examine contemporary structures of authority in the Christian church. Scholars critically explore their own churches, looking at historical as well as contemporary discussions about authority: the conciliar tradition, secular developments, experiences of non-ordained ecclesial leadership, on to more confessional principles, rules, and practices relevant for church governance. Contributions represent the following traditions: Anglican, Old Catholic, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Methodist, and Reformed. The goal is not only to theorize about authority abstractly, but also to explore potential paths for closer ecclesial union and ecumenical action
