Nutritional supplement use in high school students
During adolescence development of healthy eating behaviours is vital for establishing a healthy growth period. In fact, healthy eating is adequate and balanced consumption of food, without necessity of nutritional supplements. We intended to evaluate nutritional supplements, such as antioxidative substances like vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids. The study was conducted in 9 high schools in Bursa. The students enrolled attended to 9-12th classes. The study utilised a face to face interview method, a questionnaire was applied and some data were collected from the school registries. Among 953 middle and high school students 56.9% were female (n = 542), 43.1% were male (n = 411). The mean age was 15.74 +/- 1.27. Majority of the students were from the Marmara region (54.7%). 7% of the students were taking nutritional supplements. Gender, BMI, school success, presence of health problems, smoking and alcohol consumption were associated with nutritional supplement consumption. In the market many herbal products are sold and are being consumed without proven effects and without clear safety marjins. Overdosing side effects are not so uncommon. Detection of high school students using these supplements in our study may address need of regulations in selling and buying of these products

The impact of sexual dysfunction on quality of life on nurses
The study was conducted to determine the effect of nurses' sexual life on their quality of life. The study was conducted on 76 nurses working in a hospital in Bursa. Data were collected through Descriptive Data Collection Form, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. Mann-Whitney U, Spearman correlation, and Kruskal Wallis test were used to evaluate the data. The average age of the nurses is 38.98±8.05. The average duration of nurses' marriage is 13.95±8.96 years, and 49% of them stated that working life affects their sexual life. Sexual dysfunction was detected in 100% of the nurses. The presence of sexual dysfunction in nurses affects the quality of life. It is important to determine the risk factors in nurses' sexual life patterns to improve the quality of life
Attitudes of antioxidant consumption in university students
Antioxidants are generally found in vegetables, fruits and some other plants. A balanced diet should contain foods rich in antioxidants. We aimed in this study to evaluate the knowledge level of students in the Institute of Health Sciences and their pattern of antioxidant consumption. We also assessed the stress levels of cases with a simple scale and its association with consumption levels. A total of 144 cases participated in the study. The mean age of the students was 20.61 +/- 2.04 (range 17-33). Number of females was 111 (77.1%). Among the study group, 66.7% of cases consumed 4 cups or more of tea daily. Rate of consumption of coffee every day was 52.4%. The mostly known antioxidants are garlic, red pepper, green tea, vegetables, and vitamin E with decreasing order. Daily consumption rates of vegetables, black tea, and olive were most common in decreasing order. The stress levels of the cases were not significantly associated with the consumption rates of each antioxidant in this study.Knowledge level about antioxidants of students has to be increased. The dietary habits of the population like high consumption of vegetables, black tea, and olive in a way compensated the amount of daily consumed antioxidants
The effect of leopold maneuver training with hybrid simulation on nursing students' stress, bio-psychosocial response and stress coping behaviors: A randomized controlled trial
Background Leopold maneuvers are one of the independent roles of nurses to monitor the level of intrauterine development of the fetus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of simulated Leopold maneuver training on safe pregnancy follow-up of nursing students. Methods A randomized controlled experimental design study used a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 4th-grade nursing students (n = 66). The study was conducted between May-June 2023. Data were collected using a form that included 18 issues The study was conducted in five steps. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control groups. Results The study found that students in the experimental group who received training using hybrid simulation had significantly higher Leopold knowledge (EG = 12.78 +/- 3.06; CG = 5.93 +/- 1.17), skills (EG = 14.87 +/- 2.02; CG = 8.66 +/- 2.43), and correct assessment of Leopold maneuvers (EG = 3.09 +/- 0.81; CG = 0.51 +/- 0.61) compared to students in the control group (p < 0.001). Our study found that the Perceived Stress Scale for Nursing Students (EG = 58.96 +/- 14.81; CG = 79.15 +/- 15.28), Bio-Psycho-Social Response Scale for Nursing Students (EG = 21.81 +/- 7.16; CG = 41.36 +/- 12.41), and Stress Coping Behaviors Scale for Nursing Students (EG = 46.718 +/- 5.57; CG = 37.36 +/- 7.04) scores of the group that received simulated Leopold maneuvers training were significantly different from the control group (p < 0.001). Conclusion Learning through simulation in women's health nursing education helped students gain Leopold knowledge, skills, and accurate assessments. Simulated education decreased students' Perceived Stress for Nursing Student, Bio-Psycho-Social Response for Nursing Students' levels, and increased their Stress Coping Behavior for Nursing Students' levels
Identification of the Knowledge of First Grade Students in University about Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Young people with no or insufficient knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases are at a risk for these diseases. This study was performed with the aim of identifying knowledge level of first grade students in university about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Universe of this cross-sectional and descriptive study was composed of 283 first grade students. For obtaining data, general information form and Knowledge Test of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, which is composed of 36 questions, developed in Canada and translated to the Turkish, were used. Mean knowledge level of students was 18.37±6.87. According to the cases, conditions causing highest risk of STDs were unprotected sex (72.8%) and presence of multiple partners (61.8%). Knowledge about STDs showed significant difference according to the age, educational status and faculty (p<0.05). Regular education about STD for improving knowledge level of students is suggested
Attitudes to genetically modified organisms and food among university students
Genetically modified organisms and food have serious concerns due to their unpredicted nature. The beneficial effects include cost-effectiveness, economical benefits and endurance of the related product to certain obstacles including infections, and drought. Many diseases are attributed to genetically modified foods as with environmental hazards. Some of these have not been validated via scientific committees. In this study we aimed to investigate the attitudes of 85 students of the Institute of Health Sciences in Uludag University. The study was a descriptive study. We gathered data via questionnaire focusing on the attitudes, believes, knowledge levels and socioeconomical characteristics. The mean age of the study group was 21.77 +/- 1.21 (range 20-26). Among the group 67 (78.8%) were female. Majority of them mostly lived in cities. More than half of the students think that genetics of food is changed to make national governments dependent to foreign countries. Majority of students think that GMF and GMOs are detrimental for human health. A negative perception is present of GMOs. The socioeconomic characteristics did not affect the attitudes of students towards GMOs. 100% of the students think food labels should contain data related to presence of GMOs
Ethical evaluation of nurses' and midwives' attitudes of undertaking the duties of other health care team members
Katılımcıların %56.8'i sık sık, %24.8'i bazen, % 9.7'si her zaman "sağlık ekibinin herhangi bir üyesi görevini ihmal ettiğinde bu görevi tamamlama tutumunu sergilediğini" ifade etmiştir. The aim of study was to ethically evaluate nurses' and midwives' attitudes related to undertaking other health care personnels' duties and finding medical supplies when they are not reimbursed by patient's social security. The participants were 330 nurses and midwives who were employed at several departments such as delivery room, neonatal intensive care unit, emergency obstetrics, and obstetrics service in public hospitals in the city center of Bursa. The sample group for this study are the nurses and midwifes who voluntarily accepted to participate in this research. Data were collected through a data collection form developed by their researcher. The form included demographic variables of nurses and midwives. SPSS 16.0 were used for statistical analysis and results were given in numbers, percentages, Pearson chi-square test, Fisher Exact chi-square test, and standard deviation. The results show that 56.8 % of the participants often, 24.8% sometimes, 9.7% always tend to undertake the duties which are neglected by other members of the health care team and 8.6 % indicated that they never do it. In terms of professional ethics, the participants' tendency to undertake the other members' duties seems not appropriate legally and ethically and this also might lead much more ethical problems. 10% of the participants indicated that they try to compensate the health care expenses when the patients have limited sources and need help. The participants found some risky solutions to that problem and stated that they either "pay these expenses on their own or collecting money from their colleagues" (17.3%), or "provide from other departments" (24.2%), or "make do with the other patients' medical consumables" (20.2%). With regard to professional ethics, the persistence of these attitudes seems to establish a ground for ethical problems. The participants' tendency to undertake the other members' duties seems not appropriate ethically except for emergencies and will cause incorrect applications. The patients will adversely affected by of these applications. Problems caused by nurses or midwives' attitudes towards patients may be simply prevented by giving training courses. Besides, the roles of the healthcare team members must be clearly defined. Also, in accordance with the human right to health every member of the society must be given access to health care according to their needs. In this way the problems mentioned above may be solved completely
