Students with Migration Background in the University of Crete: A Biographical and Factional Analysis

This article focuses on the students of immigrant origin who have followed mainstream primary and secondary education and have entered the University of Crete through the national examination. Fifteen migratory biographies are analyzed qualitatively and indicate that the students, through a rough course of schooling, learning Greek and being integrated into the Greek society, have succeeded to enroll to the University, but they still lack the opportunity of being granted citizenship and feel full members of the society. The contradiction between accepting foreign schoolchildren into the education system and depriving them from full legal rights is an uprising issue to be dealt with by the state. This article focuses on the students of immigrant origin who have followed mainstream primary and secondary education and have entered the University of Crete through the national examination.

Summarization: The aim of this project is to present the establishment of the sixth School at the Technical University of Crete, the School of Planetary and Space Sciences. In addition, the scenario is created in which the need to establish the new school appears, the existing conditions are recorded, the area and the parameters for the creation of the new school are analyzed (building plan, new curriculum, etc.). At the same time, a historical review is made to justify the design of the building, which has been influenced by the "Space Race" during the Cold War

Full-length papers submitted at the 9th GRACM Congress on Computational Mechanics.Summarization: The present electronic book is an edited collection of papers presented at the 9th GRACM International Congress on Computational Mechanics, which was held at the Technical University of Crete, Chania, June 4-6, 2018. The congress was organized by the Greek Association of Computational Mechanics (GRACM) with the support of the Institute of Computational Mechanics & Optimization (CoMecO) of School of Production Engineering & Management of Technical University of Crete. The volume contains 48 papers, reflecting recent advanced in Computational Mechanics. The Editors would like to thank all the authors of the papers for submitting a full paper for the presentcollection, the reviewers of the papers and the members of the Executive Council of GRACM, who served as members of the Scientific Committee. Thanks are also due to all the people who provided technical and secretarial support to the Congress, especially to Mrs. Maria Bakatsaki from the Technical University of Crete, as well as to the Technical University of Crete Press, which published the present book. Παράλληλα, αναπτύχθηκαν σενάρια επέκτασης φωτοβολταϊκής ισχύος, τα οποία αξιολογήθηκαν μέσω δεικτών καθαρής παρούσας αξίας (NPV) και απόδοσης επένδυσης (ROI).Summarization: The study aims to analyze and review the literature on sustainable energy management using multi-criteria decision analysis and artificial intelligence. The scope is defined by the Technical University of Crete, from which real data will be drawn and realistic solutions will be proposed. Issues to be addressed include ineffective energy management (supporting optimization of energy production, consumption, and storage) and insufficient cost-benefit analysis (providing tools for analyzing sustainable and cost-effective energy options)

On modeling the email traffic of the Technical University of Crete

Διπλωματική ΕργασίαUndergraduate ThesisSummarization: E-mail has become a de-facto means of communication. Mail servers try to manage the explosive growth of e-mail usage and offer good quality of service to the users, while spam e-mails are expected to account for 90% of the e-mail traffic. The exceedingly heavy workload can lead to the replacement of existing e-mail servers due to their inability to cope with performance standards and storing capacity. In this study, we try to model the workload of the Technical University of Crete e-mail servers, for all types of traffic (spam, user and system e-mails). We collected a vast amount of e-mail logs with high variations in terms of size and volume over time. We tested some of the most popular distributions for workload characterization and used powerful statistical tests to evaluate our findings. Interestingly we come to different conclusions in comparison with previous works in the field. Our work indicates that, with the exception of some outliers, email traffic can be modeled and predicted quite well
