The impact of perceived organizational support and job resourcefulness on supervisor‐rated contextual performance of firefighters: Mediating role of job satisfaction
Impact of Organisational Politics Perceptions on Doctoral Students’ Engagement and Performance: Exploring the Mediating Role of Supervisor Support
The study investigates the possible linkage of organisational politics with the academic performance of doctoral students, mediated by work engagement and moderated by perceived supervisor support, based on the ‘Broaden-and-Build Theory’. The authors collected multisource data through structured questionnaires from 432 doctoral students and their supervisors, which was analysed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique in SmartPLS 4. Analysis showed that organisational politics negatively impacts academic performance with the partial mediation of work engagement. However, perceived supervisor support buffered this association, thus, reducing the indirect effects on academic performance. The findings are useful for the management of Higher Education Institutes/Universities (HEIs) into how and why the perception of organisational politics could lead to poor academic performance of students enrolled in doctoral studies. The findings also direct university management to take necessary measures by which students’ academic performance could be enhanced through their work engagement and perceived supervisor support.

A Multi-Source Diary Study on The Job Resourcefulness, Job Satisfaction, and Task Performance: Will Perceive Organizational Support Moderate
Purpose:
This multilevel diary study examined the association between day-level job resourcefulness and day-level task performance of employees of tour and travel. Based on the job demands and resources (JD-R) model, we tested the mediating effect of day-level job satisfaction between job resourcefulness and task performance with the moderating effect of perceived organizational support.
Methodology:
We collected data for five consecutive days with the help of structured questionnaires. Employees (n = 180) rated their general perceived organizational support, daily job resourcefulness, and daily job satisfaction, whereas their immediate supervisors (n = 18) rated their daily task performance. It was a two-level study with days nested in individuals (no. of observations=900).
Findings:
Multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) results show a positive association between job resourcefulness and supervisor-rated task performance with the partial mediation of job satisfaction at the day level, while the cross-level interaction effect of the perceived organizational support was non-significant. Our hypothesized framework was never tested, which is a unique contribution to job resourcefulness literature and, in this way, for tourism-related entrepreneurs.
Conclusion:
SMEs are highly dependent on their employees for competitiveness and performance but at the same time face resource-constrained problems. We argue that the employees\u27 job resourcefulness might help achieve work-related goals such as task performance through enhanced job satisfaction daily, where organizational support does not provide the necessary job resources
Covid-19 Related Experiences, Online Leisure Crafting, and Academic Performance: Role of Uncertainty Avoidance
Purpose:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the linkage between COVID-19 related experiences and the academic performance of university students. COVID-19, in general, has impacted the whole world financially, socially, and psychologically through its adverse effects in the form of closure of business, financial crisis, downsizing, psychological distress, etc. Evidence suggests the prevalence of COVID-19 related issues among university students who faced stressful conditions due to lockdown and isolation.
Methodology:
Drawing on the behavioral theory of plasticity, the present study adopted a two-wave methodology for data collection. We collected data with the help of structured questionnaires from students (n=1473) of an international university in Australia. We used the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique to test the moderated mediation model in Smart PLS3.
Findings:
Results indicated that COVID-19 related experiences were negatively associated with students’ academic performance and positively with online leisure crafting. Whereas online leisure crafting was positively associated with academic performance and partially mediated the COVID-19 related experiences and academic performance. Uncertainty avoidance significantly buffered the effect of COVID-19 related experiences on online leisure crafting. The findings supported the research framework of the study.
Conclusion:
This study helps make clear the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of the impact of COVID-19 related experiences on university students’ academic performance through the mediation of online leisure crafting and moderation of uncertainty avoidance. The implications for university management and policymakers are discussed
An Analysis of Families Experiences with Young Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) during COVID-19 Lockdown in Pakistan
The shadow impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are critical, especially for children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDDs). Financial constraints and home confinement have increased the challenges for caregivers to meet the educational and health needs of children with IDDs. Hence, this research examines the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on families with IDDs children in rural Pakistan. Overall, 176 parents participated in this study and provided valuable responses through interview technique. Parents responded to five (05) open-ended questions. Results indicated that parents of children with IDDs are facing various challenges including financial constraints, social lockdown, deteriorated health conditions of their children, reduced or no health services, closure of educational institutes, negative behavioral impacts, and slow mental development. Still, a subset of parents also reported the positive side of lockdown, indicating that staying at home resulted in improved relationships. The findings of the study suggest that parents of children with IDDs are confronted with significant challenges that increase their stress.
The Shadow Pandemic: Violence against Women in Pakistan during COVID-19 Lockdown
The present study documents the vital outcome of COVID-19 lockdown on the lifespan of women in Pakistan. The lockdown has affected the unemployment rate, particularly in the rural region of the country. Passing along the eleven in-depth interviews and one focus group discussion (FGD) conducted in rural parts of the twin cities (Islamabad & Rawalpindi), the survey demonstrated that the ruination of the income level during COVID-19 lockdown has increased partner violence in the country. The information received further revealed that the bread earners of the families are enduring greater levels of stress and anxiety eventually resulting in a substantial growth in intimate partner violence (IPV)
