Student assessment of teachers (sat): towards a basket of approaches
No full textIn some institutions of higher learning, one of the approaches to successful governance is through student assessment of teachers, dubbed Student Assessment of Faculty or Student Evaluation of Teaching and extensively used in the United States of America (USA). In schools and colleges, the usual largest bloc and primary stakeholders are the students. Students should therefore assess teachers for the purpose of improving the system for all stakeholders including themselves. Teaching is a service in a marketing framework and where it is offered, the buyer is in the best position to assess the offering for better performance. This paper advocates for student assessment of their teachers at the end of each teaching cycle and suggests a basket of approaches to reduce the dissonance that accompanies the exercise where applied. A template is suggested in the paper

Dwindling nature of deposits mobilization in microfinance industry necessitated this study. It is to establish the effect of deposit mobilization on the financial performance of micro finance banks in Nigeria: A study of Umuchinemere Pro-credit micro finance bank Nigeria limited 2005 - 2014. The main objective is to examine the effect of customer deposit on the financial performance of the bank and one specific objectives. Two hypotheses were formulated, two research questions, The research design used is ex-post facto. The population of the study was all microfinance banks in Enugu and a sample of one (1)microfinance bank was considered. The data was sourced from the annual report of Umuchinemere pro-credit micro finance bank. Regression analysis and correlation techniques were used to analyse the data. The analysis was carried out using statistical package for social sciences(SPSS).One of the findings of these work is that Customer deposit has effect on the financial performance of Microfinance bank in Nigeria and that Interest rate charges has effect on the financial performance of Microfinance bank in Nigeria. In conclusion Micro Finance Banks are essential in the development of financial system in Nigeria. I recommend that the bank should give due emphasis to its deposit mobilizing tasks since mobilizing deposit is a way to survival and managing deposits is not possible without knowing and controlling the fundamental factors affecting it

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Continuous Assessment , Practicum, and the Quality of Business Education Programmes in Nigeria
No full textPeriodic assessment of students in the process of teaching the curriculum content, otherwise known as Continuous Assessment, was introduced into the Nigerian educational system in 1981 through the National Policy on Education. The method seeks to even out academic effort by ensuring that students do not wait for end of semester or certificate examinations to exert study effort but rather sustain learning throughout a period, for instance, a term or a semester. This method of assessment is very good for a practical programme such as Business Education and should be magnified. This paper reviews the philosophy and current practice in Business Education in the College of Education system in Nigeria and submits that a higher weight should be accorded Continuous Assessment rather than the current practice of emphasizing end of semester examinations. The paper also advocates more emphasis on practicum by way of more contact hours for practical work and very importantly, more attention to industrial attachment. These measures, it is hoped, would ensure higher quality of the Business Education programme

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
