Rapid prototyping of ceramic millimeterwave metamaterials: Simulations and experiments
Rapid prototyping by an extrusion freeforming technique, of ceramic metamaterials based on a woodpile structure at millimeterwave frequencies has been performed. The finite difference time domain technique is applied for the design and characterization of the proposed metamaterials. The transmittance of the millimeterwave metamaterials is measured in the range of 75–110 GHz. Both measurement and simulation results are in good agreement
Rich Dad Poor Dad: An Entrepreneurial Approach to the Teaching of Business French
US higher education has focused on the development of new cadres of employees to the near exclusion of entrepreneurship as a career path. In this article, the authors describe an entrepreneurial approach to the teaching of Business French. The senior author served as the course instructor while the junior author was a student who completed the course. To provide an entry into the world of global entrepreneurship, the senior author selected the French translation of Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad. In parallel with the reading of Rich Dad, students completed a series of entrepreneurial course activities. Selected activities are described from the perspectives of both authors. The article ends with students’ feelings about (1) entrepreneurship, (2) future career plans, (3) the theme of the course, and (4) the use of Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad

Some 50 years later: Warhol's film has been re-imagined, re-performed, remixed and revived for the digital age. Gracie Otto performs the role of Edie Sedgwick. Jack Sargeant re-stages the role of an off-screen Chuck Wein, a spectral presence in the film. Personality predispositions in Chinese adolescents: the relation between self-criticism, dependency, and prospective internalizing symptoms
The present study examined the prospective relation between two personality predispositions, self-criticism and dependency, and internalizing symptoms. Specifically, it was examined whether self-criticism and dependency predicted symptoms of depression and social anxiety, and if a vulnerability-stress or stress generation model best explained the relation between the personality predispositions and emotional distress in Chinese adolescents. Participants included 558 adolescents (310 females and 248 males) from an urban school in Changsha, and 592 adolescents (287 females and 305 males) from a rural school in Liuyang, both located in mainland China. Participants completed self-report measures of self-criticism and dependency at baseline, and self-report measures of negative events, depressive symptoms, and social anxiety symptoms once a month for six months. Findings showed that self-criticism predicted depressive symptoms, while dependency predicted social anxiety symptoms. In addition, support was found for a stress generation model, as opposed to a vulnerability-stress model, with achievement stressors mediating the relation between self-criticism and depressive symptoms, and interpersonal stressors mediating the relation between dependency and social anxiety symptoms. Overall, these findings highlight new developmental pathways for the development of depressive and social anxiety symptoms in mainland Chinese adolescents. Rich, Sturmian, and trapezoidal words
In this paper we explore various interconnections between rich words, Sturmian words, and trapezoidal words. Rich words, first introduced by the second and third authors together with J. Justin and S. Widmer, constitute a new class of finite and infinite words characterized by having the maximal number of palindromic factors. Every finite Sturmian word is rich, but not conversely. Trapezoidal words were first introduced by the first author in studying the behavior of the subword complexity of finite Sturmian words. Unfortunately this property does not characterize finite Sturmian words. In this note we show that the only trapezoidal palindromes are Sturmian. More generally we show that Sturmian palindromes can be characterized either in terms of their subword complexity (the trapezoidal property) or in terms of their palindromic complexity. We also obtain a similar characterization of rich palindromes in terms of a relation between palindromic complexity and subword complexity
Simultaneously Improved Bendability and Strength of Al–Mg–Si–Cu–Zn Alloys by Controlling the Formation and Evolution of Primary Fe-Rich Phase
In present work, the formation, evolution, and distribution of the primary Fe-rich phase in an Al–Mg–Si–Cu–Zn–Fe–Mn alloy are coupling controlled by ultrasonic melt treatment (USMT) and thermomechanical processing (TMP). It is shown in the results that the size of grains and Fe-rich phase in the as-cast state can be greatly reduced by the applied optimum USMT at 680 °C. Additionally, the transformation rate of β-Fe-rich phase to α-Fe-rich phase can be also enhanced. After the coupling control of USMT and TMP, the number density and distribution uniformity of multiscale Fe-rich particles can be greatly increased or improved, which contributes to the fine-grained recrystallization microstructure and weakened texture. Finally, compared with the 6xxx series Al alloys (such as AA6016 and AA6111), the alloy sheet in the pre-aging state exhibits substantially improved bendability and strength (the plastic strain ratio and tensile strength are 0.67 and 304 MPa, respectively). Teachers’ Knowledge Framework for Designing Numeracy Rich Tasks across Non-Mathematics Curriculum Areas
There is a consensus that numeracy is important for students to develop logical thinking and reasoning strategies in their everyday activities. As a result, teachers are encouraged to design numeracy rich tasks that incorporate real-life contexts across non-mathematics curriculum areas. However, it is not clear what types of knowledge teachers require to design such tasks. In this study, the author used the stepwise generalization method and developed a framework for the knowledge required by teachers to design numeracy rich tasks across non-mathematics curriculum areas. The study begins with a brief introduction to numeracy and its definition in various contexts. The nature of knowledge required to design numeracy rich tasks (mathematics content knowledge, a non-mathematics curriculum area knowledge, activity design skills and knowledge of context)) are further described. In the later section of the study, each element of teacher knowledge and the framework to design numeracy rich tasks across non-mathematics curriculum areas are described. The knowledge framework developed in this study can be used to analyze teachers designed numeracy-rich tasks and identify their professional learning requirements
