    No full text
In recent times, emerging digital technologies have been entering the field of education, introducing new possibilities on reaching and sharing information, enhancing the teaching experience and continuously changing the way we communicate. Starting from this phenomenon, Co-story project asks critical questions about the use of technology, involving teenagers in the design process in order to explore and fulfill their needs and desires. The project is a practice based action-research that embraces co-design workshops with students in order to design a new technological artefact answering their own problems. The research team, including a designer and an anthropologist, firstly conducted a series of co-design workshops together with 24 participants (14-15 years old) and as a result of this process, an object called “Emotion Capsule” has been created. The prototype of the capsule is embedded with digital sensors and actuators, collecting the participants’ unexpressed emotions, thoughts and feelings and share them with others in an anonymous way. The capsule prototype was tested with twelve different cohorts of students (9-15 years old) in Scandicci (Florence) and the qualitative and quantitative data obtained during various activities in these classes were analyzed through design and anthropological perspectives. This article addresses the methodology and tools used during the workshops and introduces the concept of the artefact “Emotion Capsule” and its process in an ecological perspective. It reflects and opens new questions related to technology and new forms of social communication based on the results derived from the experiences with participants of the project

LAUREA MAGISTRALEIn my project, my primary aim has been to renovate several Persian crafts while considering sustainability. Given that sustainability has such a vast domain, I have focused on enhancing environmental sustainability in a cycle of production, having considered various elements including the material, process, distribution, users and recycle stages it embodies. Furthermore, bearing in mind the importance of the bigger picture within sustainability, my explorations has not been limited to simply designing products but also promoting workshops and organizations which will enrich the knowledge and increase the respect of traditions of designers. Indeed, this line of thought relates to my origins and, in fact, Iran has the largest number of handicrafts in the world. However, unfortunately many of them are becoming forgotten. For example, velvet weaving, where for all practical purposes today there remains only one workshop and one master in this artistic endeavor. Therefore, in this research, I intend to pursue the diversity in Persian handicrafts and promote sustainability via artisanship appreciation. Throughout my research about sustainability, I have grown to understand the important role of using technology for innovation and creating sustainable achievement opportunities. It can help us to create a sustainable fashion system in design and development across the entire product life cycle – that is, from fiber to factory and onward to consumer, point of disposal and potential reuse. To continue, the most important factors which are necessary to re-build craft in our contemporary time are innovation, adaptability, functionality and production. With the use of technology, I have endeavored to implement these factors into various aspects of my project

Il sistema è composto da quattro canali di servizio, che sono “my money, my bank, my budget, and my network”. Personal finance management is changeable, differs based on individual, space and the state of emotion. The information about financial management does seem significant to the user after some particular filters. The determination and control of those filters is the key to successful personal finance management. Saving is the result of a successful personal management. It provides the individual to feel good about her/himself psychologically and physically. For a healthy society, financial management and saving are highly important. With relation to Europe, in Turkey consumption rates are high and the factors affecting consumption are the young population and technology. In the researches it has been seen that the young generation is indifferent and ignorant about budget planning. With economical crisis in Europe which has affected Turkey, Turkish banks have started to perform works about personal budget planning. Those works are services to help users who do make budget planning. This thesis offers a product service system to help the young population in Turkey while managing budget planning and saving. The system offered, different from the similar systems, enables the banks know its customers better through social media and develop costumer based banking methods. Moreover, this system both provides user centred financial tools and develops a new approach which blends traditional saving methods with social media. The system in this thesis is called my+ social banking service. It consists of applications working via a card and mobile phone application connected to a card. The aim is to provide a service through which a user may access to, monitor and control the financial data. This service is flexible, smart and social that individuals are able to personalize their service. The system consists of four service channels which are my money, my bank, my budget, and my network. Under the title of My network a social saving platform called Golden Circle, which is inspired by traditional saving method in Turkey, is presented. The service provides people save money while socializing

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Embodiment of emotions through wearable technology

Today, people are in an era of digitally mediated HHI (human-to-human interaction), which cannot provide full sensorial contact and therefore, emotions cannot be communicated completely. With the information age people now have digits and virtual bodies, which appear on the screens of their highly technological, smart devices. While this possibility enables people to contact others, it also turns them into audiences rather than creating an engaging experience, due to the lack of physical substance. The intimate cover of the human body, i.e. garment is the interface, where many personal traits are embodied. With the improvements in textile and electronics industry, this embodiment can be carried on a higher level, where the garments become dynamic interfaces and extensions of the human body. Wearable technology has opened new ways of interaction through human body, while enabling it free to move and extending its sensorial boundaries. The aim of the PhD thesis is to explore the communicative level of wearable technology through turning it into a living surface, which can convert digital data to physical, intangible to tangible, invisible to visible in order to provide an emotional communication. This research aims to carry Human-Technology interaction into an alternative context, where technology dissolves in use and starts serving for enhancing Human-Human interaction. To verify the research hypothesis, experimental design practices were done by reinterpreting, simulating and transmitting emotions through the use of wearable technologies. The experimental part was done by developing both virtual and real prototypes in order to analyse users’ perception towards the idea of communicating emotions through wearable technology. Through stimulating different senses of the human body, such as touch, sight and sound, the prototypes address the issue of transmitting emotions between bodies.DIPARTIMENTO DI INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, DELLE ARTI, DELLA COMUNICAZIONE E DELLA MODA24TRABUCCO, FRANCESC
