Removal of the Crucifixes in 1958 in the Sandomierz poviat
No full textThe paper presents the course of decrucification action in Sandomierz County located in former Kielce voivodeship. The action was planned by communist authorities and legally based on the Circular no. 26 of the Ministry of Education dated 4 August 1958. In order to present the course of the action, the author needed a query of source materials: KP PZPR and Department of Education of PPRN in Sandomierz, security force act and local Bishop Curia. The author shows all stages of decrucification action carried out on a country level. The first one were preparations, consisting of meeting KP PZR executive, trainings for school directors and state institutions. Another stage was to remove crosses from common schools and state institutions, which did not take place without argument. At the end of the decrucification action, summaries and evaluation concluded that removal of crosses had gone without major problems. In order to present a full picture of the described action, the author presented an outline of the introduction process of Circular 26 by Ministry of Education on 4 August 1958 and discussed the school network of Sandomierz County. The paper is another attempt to show the ways communist authorities fought the Catholic church after the II World War
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Development of the Book Collection of the Library of the Seminary in Sandomierz in 1907–1918
Get PDFArtykuł ukazuje rozwój księgozbioru Biblioteki Seminarium Duchownego w Sandomierzu w latach 1907-1918. Był to okres kiedy uczelnią duchowną zarządzał ks. Paweł Kubicki, późniejszy sufragan sandomierski. Natomiast funkcję bibliotekarza pełnił ks. Andrzej Wyrzykowski. Duchowni ci, wykorzystując sprzyjające okazje, tj. nowe pomieszczenia magazynowe i sytuację finansową, podjęli się modernizacji dotychczasowej książnicy seminaryjnej. Celem tych działań było dostosowanie jej dla potrzeb kursu filozoficzno-teologicznego. Podstawowym zadaniem opiekunów biblioteki stał się zatem rozwój istniejącego księgozbioru. Nowe pozycje pozyskiwano na drodze zakupu oraz poprzez przyjmowanie darów. W książki i czasopisma zaopatrywano się w kraju, jak również poza jego granicami, m.in. w Niemczech. Do najcenniejszych kolekcji sprowadzonych w tym czasie należy patrologia Jacques’a Paula Migne’a oraz Acta Sanctorum bollandystów. Natomiast ofiarodawcami swoich zbiorów bibliotecznych byli głównie kapłani diecezji sandomierskiej. Szybko rozwijający się księgozbiór seminaryjny wymagał dużych nakładów pracy, m.in. przy opracowywaniu i zabezpieczaniu nabytków. Inicjatywy te podejmował bibliotekarz wraz z grupami alumnów. W latach 1907-1918 uczelnia duchowna wzbogaciła się o kilka tysięcy woluminów, które współcześnie są częścią księgozbioru Biblioteki Diecezjalnej w Sandomierzu.
The article presents the development of the book collection of the Sandomierz Seminary Library from 1907 to 1918. This was the period when the clerical college was managed by Rev. Paweł Kubicki, later the suffragan of Sandomierz, while Rev. Andrzej Wyrzykowski served as librarian. These clergymen, taking advantage of favourable opportunities, i.e. new storage facilities and financial situation, undertook the modernization of the existing seminary book collection. The goal of these efforts was to adapt it for a philosophy and theology course. The primary task of the library’s caretakers was the development of the existing book collection. New items were acquired through purchase and by accepting donations. The books and magazines were procured in the country, as well as abroad, including in Germany. Among the most valuable collections brought in at the time were Jacques Paul Migne’s patrology and the Acta Sanctorum of the Bollandists. The donors of the library collections were mainly priests of the Sandomierz Diocese. The rapidly growing seminary book collection required a great deal of work, including compiling and securing acquisitions. These initiatives were undertaken by the librarian together with groups of alumni. Between 1907 and 1918, the clerical college was enriched with several thousand volumes, which today are part of the book collection of the Sandomierz Diocesan Library
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
