No full textDesde hace más de una década he tenido el privilegio de conocer de cerca la trayectoria académica de Jorge Turner Morales, a través del quehacer del Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos (CELA) de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la UNAM. Ello ha permitido también que en charlas y recorridos cotidianos me confiese su largo caminar como latinoamericanista. El texto que aquí se presenta es el resultado de una plática formal sostenida con él en octubre de 1997, con motivo del homenaje que le hiciera la Facultad y que recoge en una síntesis su ya largo andar por Panamá, México y otros países

A simple scheduled anti-windup technique
No full textThis paper presents a gain scheduled, full-order, anti-windup compensation strategy for LTI systems. The paper makes two contributions. Firstly it shows that, given two point-design anti-windup compensators with differing performance levels and associated regions of attraction, it is possible to interpolate between them to generate a family of compensators with intermediate performance levels and regions of attraction. Secondly, it is shown how this family of compensators can be used to construct a gain-scheduled anti-windup compensator that guarantees stability of the closed-loop system providing the initial states of the system are contained within a certain positively invariant set. The resulting gain scheduled anti-windup compensator is simple to construct and straightforward to implement. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is shown through a simulation example.</p
Flight control system design for wind gust rejection based on an unknown input observer and a simple adaptive controller
No full textThis paper presents a design methodology for the rejection of wind gusts during flight. The proposed application is based on the Simple Adaptive Controller (SAC) methodology, but differs from other SAC applications in the sense that the reference model utilised is an Unknown Input Observer (UIO). As a consequence, the adaptive controller is fed by an estimate of the wind gust and will only act in the event of such a disturbance occurring, retaining nominal performance otherwise. Although stability guarantees of the flight control system proposed follows closely previous work, some differences are found and commented upon in this work. Success of the proposed scheme is demonstrated via simulation using a linear model of the MuPAL-α experimental aircraft of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and the results are compared with an implementation of the original SAC formulation.</p
Improved Circle and Popov Criteria for systems containing magnitude bounded nonlinearities
No full textThis paper presents improved versions of the Circle and Popov Criteria for Lure systems in which the nonlinear element is both sector and magnitude bounded. The main idea is to use the fact that if the nonlinearity is magnitude bounded and the linear system is asymptotically stable, then its state will be ultimately bounded. When the state enters this set of ultimate boundedness, it will satisfy a narrower sector condition which can then be used to prove stability in a wider set of cases than the standard Circle and Popov Criteria. The results are illustrated with some numerical examples.</p

Para tanto, analisou-se de que forma a representação de tal espaço torna-o simbólico e, posteriormente, mítico, tanto no conjunto da obra do autor, como também, a partir desse movimento individual de Borges, no imaginário coletivo da cidade. Estudou-se ainda como a memória própria e o imaginário criaram espaços afetivos, que permeiam a totalidade dos textos do autor.Abstract: This study investigates how Jorge Luis Borges builds Sur neighborhood as mythic space in his first three books of poetry. To this end, we analyzed how the representation of such a space make of it a symbolic and later a mythical space, both in the overall work of the author, but also that individual movement of Borges that achieve the collective imagination of the city. Still we have studied how the personal memory and the imagery is able to create emotional spaces, which constitute the totality of texts by the author

A minha subjetividade foi ao encontro da memória material das cartas destinadas ou remetidas por dois comunistas: Juan e Joaquim. A leitura delas me permitiu ressignificar a questão da autoria e da literatura epistolar. O trabalho, em parte, foi apresentado como cartas. A escrita, situada no limite entre ficcional e factual, faz referências ao contexto político e social do Brasil no período da ditadura de Vargas. O trabalho está inserido no contexto específico da memória e da narrativa dos comunistas e perseguidos políticos que viveram esta fase da vida intelectual, social, política e literária brasileira.Abstract : My dissertation´s main objective is to present the result of the affective relations constituted and apprehended from Jorge Amado´s collection (NuLIME). My subjectivity is connected to the material memory of the letters destined or posted by two communists: Juan and Joaquim. Reading them has enabled me to reframe the questions of authorship and epistolary literature. The work was partially presented as letters. The writing, classified in between fictional and factual, refers to the social and political context and to the narrative from communists and political persecuted who lived this period of Brazilian intellectual, social, political and literary life

No full textConoc í a Jorge Turner hace treinta años, en agosto de 1976, cuando llegué a México como refugiado político. A los pocos días se inauguraba aquí la sede de la Federación Latinoamericana de Periodistas, y allí, en el viejo local de la FELAP, en un mar de periodistas mexicanos y exiliados, descubrí a Turner, panameño sin par, luchador incansable por la liberación nacional de Panamá, marxista crítico, latinoamericanista y bolivariano de pura cepa. Se enteró que yo era un oriental de la tierra de Artigas y de inmediato me dijo que sentía gran admiración por Raúl Sendic, dirigente del MLN Tupamaros de Uruguay. Ese fue el inicio de una amistad que llega hasta nuestros días..
