Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Impact of microplastics on common duckweed (Lemna minor)
Mikroplastika so delci plastike manjši od 5 mm. Njena prisotnost v različnih ekosistemih je vzbudila različne pomisleke o njenem potencialnem vplivu na organizme in človeka. Znano je, da je sladkovodni ekosistem eden od ključnih ekosistemov, kjer se mikroplastika kopiči in nadaljuje svojo pot v morje in oceane. Glavni vir mikroplastike v vodnem okolju so čistilne naprave, od kjer prihajajo plastični delci iz kozmetičnih izdelkov in sintetična vlakna po pranju oblačil. Večina raziskav se je osredotočila na vplive mikroplastike na organizme po zaužitju. Zelo malo je znano, kako mikroplastika vpliva na rastline v sladkovodnem ekosistemu. V magistrskem delu smo preučevali vpliv različnih tipov mikroplastike na malo vodno lečo (Lemna minor). Opazovali smo vpliv različnih tipov mikroplastike (iz kozmetike, vrečke in bakelita) na dolžino korenin male vodne leče ter kvantitativno preučevali poškodovanost korenin z barvanjem z barvilom Evans Blue. Testirali smo tudi naravne delce, katerih lastnosti so bile primerljive z mikroplastiko. Pri raziskavah smo ugotovili, da mikroplastika ne vpliva na hitrost rasti male vodne leče, ampak ima pomemben vpliv na dolžino korenin rastline.Microplastics are plastic particles smaller than 5 mm. Their occurrence in the environment has given a new concern about their impact on organisms an humans. It is known, that aquatic ecosystem is one of the most important ecosystem regarding occurrence of microplastics and its subsequent transport into marine environment. Waste water treatment plants are the main source of microplastic pollution in aquatic environments due to usage of microplastics in facial scrubbers and tooth paste and disintegration of synthetic clothes that cause generation of microplastics. Scientists are mainly focused on impact of microplastics on organism after ingestion. However, it is not known how microplastics affect freshwater plants. In our work toxicity tests with different types of microplastic (from cosmetics, plastic bag and bakelite) and natural particles on common duckweed Lemna minor were performed. Growth rate, root length and possible root damaging was observed. Microplastic does not impact the growth rate, but changes in root length was observed
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The leaders’ behaviour in public administration organization in the south-western Slovenia
Vodje imajo pomembno vlogo v delovnem okolju, saj uporabljajo svoje socialne, čustvene, organizacijske, vodstvene in druge sposobnosti ter znanja za oblikovanje dobrega organizacijskega vzdušja in kulture, medosebne odnose, učinkovito in dobro vodenje ljudi ter opravljanje nalog. Njihove odgovornosti pogosto presegajo zagotavljanje odličnosti nalog. Vsak vodja prinese v delovno okolje edinstveno osebnost, ki se odraža v njegovem značilnem vedenju. Ker zaposleni ta vedenja čustveno zaznavajo, je ključnega pomena, da vodje do zaposlenih izkazujejo koristno in ne škodljivo vedenje.
Namen diplomskega dela je bil pripraviti analizo vedenja vodilnega osebja v organizacijah javne uprave v jugozahodnem delu Slovenije. Raziskava diplomskega dela je bila izvedena s pomočjo anketnega vprašalnika in podatki raziskave so bili statistično obdelani v programih Excell in SPSS. Rezultati raziskave kažejo, da vodje v organizacijah javne uprave v jugozahodnem delu Slovenije najbolj poudarjajo vedenje, ki obravnava vidik psihosocialnih ravnanj vodje (PV = 4,12), komunikacijo (PV = 3,8) in vzpostavljanje odnosa vodje do samega sebe (PV = 3,6). Nasprotno pa so najnižje povprečne vrednosti bile zabeležene pri pasivnem vedenju (PV = 3,28) in vedenju z elementi transformacijskega vodenja (PV = 3,18).
Diplomsko delo predstavlja pomemben izvor informacij za optimizacijo vodenja in upravljanja organizacij javne uprave. S tem se dosežeta učinkovitejše delovanje javnih institucij in izboljšanje kakovosti storitev, ki jih ponujajo državljanom. Diplomsko delo ima prav tako širšo družbeno pomembnost, saj prispeva k učinkovitejšemu delovanju javne uprave in izboljšanju kakovosti življenja državljanov.Leaders play an important role in the work environment, using their social, emotional, organisational, leadership and other skills and knowledge to create a good organisational climate and culture, interpersonal relationships, and to manage people and tasks effectively and well. Their responsibilities often go beyond ensuring task excellence. Each leader brings a unique personality to the workplace, which is reflected in their distinctive behaviour. As these behaviours are emotionally perceived by employees, it is crucial that leaders demonstrate helpful and not harmful behaviours towards employees.
The aim of this thesis was to analyse the behaviour of leaders in public administration organisations in the south-western part of Slovenia. The thesis research was carried out using a questionnaire and the survey data were statistically processed using Excell and SPSS. The results of the survey show that leaders in public administration organisations in the south-western part of Slovenia place the highest emphasis on behaviours that address the psychosocial aspects of the leader (AVG = 4,12), communication (AVG = 3,8) and establishing the leader\u27s relationship with themselves (AVG = 3,6). On the contrary, the lowest mean values were recorded for passive behaviours (AVG = 3,28) and behaviours with elements of transformational leadership (AVG = 3,18).
The thesis is an important source of information for optimising the governance and leadership of public administration organisations. This will lead to a more efficient functioning of public institutions and an improvement in the quality of the services they offer to citizens. The thesis also has a wider social relevance, contributing to a more efficient functioning of public administration and to improving the quality of life of citizens
Impact of dolomite aggregate on the properties of fresh and durability of hardened concrete
V doktorski disertaciji smo raziskovali vpliv alkalno karbonatne reakcije (ACR) na obstojnost
cementnih kompozitov. Za namen študije smo uporabili dolomitni agregat in referenčni apnenčev
agregat. Poskuse smo izvajali pri različnih starostih kompozitov, različnem cementu (CEM I in CEM
III/B), različnem vodocementnem razmerju (0,45 in 0,6) in izpostavljenosti različnim mehanskim in
kemijskim dejavnikom (zmrzovanje in tajanje v prisotnosti talilne soli, sulfatni napad ob prisotnosti
sušenja in vlaženja ter kislinski sulfatni napad). Ugotovili smo, da alkalno karbonatna reakcija pozitivno
vpliva na obstojnost cementnih kompozitov v primeru zmrzovanja in tajanja in prisotnosti talilnih soli,
pri čemer so se kot najbolj obstojni izkazali pospešeno starani dolomitni kompoziti s CEM III/B
cementom. S kemijskimi analizami smo ugotovili, da je pri betonu z alkalno karbonatno reakcijo tvorba
hidrotalcita kemijsko spontanejša reakcija, ta pa povzroči njegovo boljšo obstojnost. Ugotovili smo tudi,
da lahko zasičenost porne raztopine z ioni, ki so posledica ACR, pripomore k zmanjšanju temperature
zmrzovanja, kar ravno tako pomembno doprinese k njegovi boljši obstojnosti. Pri izpostavljenosti
dolomitnih kompozitov sulfatnemu napadu in kislinskemu sulfatnemu napadu pa so se le ti izkazali kot
manj obstojni v primerjavi z apnenčevimi kompoziti. Do tega je prišlo zaradi tvorbe sekundarnih
sulfatnih produktov, ki so oslabili mehanske lastnosti kompozitov.
Preverjali smo tudi vpliv recikliranega agregata na lastnosti sveže betonske mešanice in s kemijskimi
analizami ugotovili njegovo kompleksno sestavo. S pomočjo termodinamskih modelov in kemijskih
analiz ter poznavanja vpliva žveplovih spojin na obstojnost kompozitov smo lahko predpostavili
mehanizem, ki vpliva na podaljšan čas vezanja cementnega kompozita, določili primerno koncentracijo
agregata, ki nima vpliva na hitrost vezanja ter predpostavili njegovo obstojnost v njegovem življenjskem
ciklu.Doctoral dissertation explores the impact of alkali carbonate reaction (ACR) on the durability
of cement composites. Therefore, the study utilized dolostone and limestone aggregate as reference
material. The experiments covered various dependent properties relevant to planning durable concrete,
including different aging regimes, various cement types (CEM I and CEM III/B), different water/cement
ratios (0.45 and 0.6), and exposure to different mechanical and chemical degrading mechanisms.
The study observed that ACR enhances the durability of cement composites when subjected to
freeze/thaw cycles and de-icing agents, particularly when aged CEM III/B binder is employed. Chemical
analysis confirmed that hydrotalcite, a byproduct of ACR, reacts spontaneously and exhibits superior
frost resistance compared to limestone counterparts, where hydrotalcite is present in lower
concentrations. Additionally, the improved frost resistance of dolostone composites can be attributed to
the presence of enriched pore solution containing ACR ions, which lower freezing temperature and
potentially enhances durability.
However, when dolostone composites were exposed to sulfates, ACR resulted in reduced durability
compared to reference limestone composites. Chemical analysis revealed the formation of secondary
sulfate products that negatively impacted the mechanical properties of dolostone composites.
Furthermore, the processes influencing the setting time of concrete when recycled aggregate is
incorporated were investigated. Chemical analysis revealed a complex composition of the aggregate.
Thermodynamic models, chemical analyses, and knowledge about sulfurous species and their impact on
cement composite durability were employed to propose a mechanism affecting the setting time of the
composite. Additionally, recommended concentrations of recycled aggregate that did not affect setting
time were determined. Finally, the dissertation concluded by drawing conclusions about the composite
durability during its service life
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
