Development of a personalized thermal comfort driven controller for HVAC systems
Increasing thermal comfort and reducing energy consumption are two main objectives of advanced HVAC control systems. In this study, a thermal comfort driven control (PTC-DC) algorithm was developed to improve HVAC control systems with no need of retrofitting HVAC system components. A case building located in Izmir Institute of Technology Campus-Izmir-Turkey was selected to test the developed system. First, wireless sensors were installed to the building and a mobile application was developed to monitor/collect temperature, relative humidity and thermal comfort data of an occupant. Then, the PTC-DC algorithm was developed to meet the highest occupant thermal comfort as well as saving energy. The prototypes of the controller were tested on the case building from July 3rd, 2017 to November 1st, 2018 and compared with a conventional PID controller. The results showed that the developed control algorithm and conventional controller satisfy neutral thermal comfort for 92 % and 6 % of total measurement days, respectively. From energy consumption point of view, the PTC-DC decreased energy consumption by 13.2 % compared to the conventional controller. Consequently, the PTC-DC differs from other works in the literature that the prototype of PTC-DC can be easily deployed in real environments. Moreover, the PTC-DC is low-cost and user-friendly
An assessment towards the acceptance of wearable technology to consumers in Turkey: the application to smart bra and t-shirt products
The study attempts to predict the dynamics that play a role in the process through which consumers accept wearable technology. A research model, in the form of a structural diagram, is proposed in search of the acceptance or buying intention of wearable technology via subjective norms, perceived usefulness, attitude towards the behaviour, perceived behavioural control and the related beliefs. In the study applied to smart bra and t-shirt products, the results show that subjective norms and attitudes towards behaviour are found significant in direct influence to buying intention, but perceived usefulness is not directly related to it. Perceived usefulness and behavioural control are found significant to indirect influence in buying intention through their effects on attitude. In addition, perceived behavioural control is directly related to attitude only for smart bras. In both the products, subjective norms, perceived usefulness, attitude and perceived behavioural control appear to be explained by a set of salient beliefs
Literature Review on Selection Criteria of Store Location Based on Performance Measures
This paper presents the results of a literature review for understanding the selection criteria of store location in the retail context. The review provides overall insight into prior studies that specifically emphasize on factors influencing store performance. Store performance has been evaluated by using various measures such as store sales, market share, retail patronage, store traffic, store profits and so forth in different studies. The intention of the review is to (1) classify the store location-selection criteria, and (2) provide researchers with a theoretical model on which future research on store performance may be oriented. Performance Analysis of Data-Driven and Model-Based Control Strategies Applied to a Thermal Unit Model
The paper presents the design and the implementation of different advanced control strategies that are applied to a nonlinear model of a thermal unit. A data-driven grey-box identification approach provided the physically–meaningful nonlinear continuous-time model, which represents the benchmark exploited in this work. The control problem of this thermal unit is important, since it constitutes the key element of passive air conditioning systems. The advanced control schemes analysed in this paper are used to regulate the outflow air temperature of the thermal unit by exploiting the inflow air speed, whilst the inflow air temperature is considered as an external disturbance. The reliability and robustness issues of the suggested control methodologies are verified with a Monte Carlo (MC) analysis for simulating modelling uncertainty, disturbance and measurement errors. The achieved results serve to demonstrate the effectiveness and the viable application of the suggested control solutions to air conditioning systems. The benchmark model represents one of the key issues of this study, which is exploited for benchmarking different model-based and data-driven advanced control methodologies through extensive simulations. Moreover, this work highlights the main features of the proposed control schemes, while providing practitioners and heating, ventilating and air conditioning engineers with tools to design robust control strategies for air conditioning systems

Energiebesparing - ook in utiliteitsgebouwen - biijkt steeds vanzelfsprekender.OTBArchitecture and The Built Environmen
"Tartarian Zlots, Heidnische Gulden; Florinos Terre Nostre”: on Mysterious Coin Denomination in XV–XVII Centuries
This article deals with a mysterious coin denomination of Bukovyna and Moldova (XV - XVII centuries), known as “Tartarian zlot”. Investigation of certain cancellers of neighboring states and cities (Lviv, Brasov, Bistritz) resulted in synonymous denominations “heidnische Gulden, zloti valaski, moldawski; fl. terre nostre”. The author proves that Tartarian zlot (heidnische Gulden, etc.) was equal to 12 asprs. The given counting system of Bukovyina was borrowed in Byzantine and impacted by counting systems of Pont & Golden Horde
Risk Perceptions and Brand Extension Success: Just Another Antecedent or One that Shapes the Effects of Others? - Study of Examples in Textiles and Clothing
This research examines the role of risk perceptions on the success likelihood of brand extensions. Prior research has focused on two main factors as driving the brand extension success: brand loyalty and the perceived fit between the brand and extension product. However, the role of purchasing risk perceptions (physical, financial, psychological, etc.) in driving the brand extension success has not been discussed adequately in the literature. This study posits that (1) risk perceptions explain substantial incremental variance (in addition to those explained by brand loyalty and perceived fit of the extension) in consumers' willingness to purchase (WTP) measures and (2) risk perceptions also moderate the effects of brand loyalty and perceived fit on WTP These suggestions were tested separately for children's' products and parents' products. The results indicate that the effects of the perceived fit on WTP are higher in high risk situations than those in low risk situations only when parents purchase an extension product for the use of their children
Factors Affecting Consumers' Behavioural Intention Towards Apparel Stores: A Test of the Mediating Role of Brand Satisfaction
The research studied the factors that affect consumers' behavioural intention towards apparel stores. Three different aspects of behavioural intention were examined: consumers' purchase intention (PI), willingness to pay more (WPAY), and brand recommendation (RECM). Specifically the authors propose a model in which consumer satisfaction with the store brand mediates the effects of attitude towards sales personnel and the convenience of the store's payment conditions or options on PI, WPAY, and RECM. The relationships hypothesized in the model were tested using two apparel store brands familiar to consumers in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. All findings were in favour of the model proposed for both apparel store brands studied, which were either a sample of men or women
