Mechanisms for surface potential decay on fluorinated epoxy in high voltage DC applications
Epoxy resin has been extensively used for decades as an insulation material in high voltage transmission systems. However, this insulation material does suffer from bulk and surface charging when used as insulating spacer, mainly in high voltage DC applications. By applying fluorination treatment, the surface of polymeric insulation is chemically treated and so modifies charge transport characteristics of the material. In doing so, excellent surface properties can be obtained without compromising the bulk characteristics of the polymeric insulation. In this paper, the authors investigate the surface potential decay performance of non-fluorinated and fluorinated epoxy resin samples. The surface decay performance of insulating material is a crucial parameter in dissipating accumulation of surface and bulk charge that can lead to premature breakdown of the insulating material. The epoxy samples were characterised by Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) analysis to determine the changes in chemical composition of the samples before and after fluorination treatment. Surface potential decay measurement using positive corona discharging was then performed, followed by bulk DC conductivity measurement to further explain the mechanisms which govern the surface potential decay. The existence of surface-fluorinated layer on the treated samples had been found to play a major role in dictating the movement of charges away from the surface during the decay process. Buddhism and Tourism at Pu-Tuo-Shan, China
This thesis is a study of pilgrimage and religious tourism in a Chinese Buddhist context, with a focus on both the host monastic community and visitors. The selected research site is Pu-Tuo-Shan, one of the Four Buddhist Sacred Mountains of China. While the Western literature on pilgrimage and religious tourism in the context of Buddhism in China remains thin and the many studies in Chinese have their research focus primarily on how to make use of religions to develop tourism and stimulate economic growth, this thesis aims to present the perceptions of Buddhist monks and nuns towards receiving visitors and tourism. The perceptions of religious hosts towards tourism development, and how they cope with the subsequent challenges created by tourism in China, are subjects that have not been studied. Additionally the thesis analyses data derived from a survey of 777 visitors to the island; the quantitative analysis sheds light on the profile of visitors. As elsewhere in the world, the religious sites of China attract not only believers, but also leisure and cultural tourists. The popularity of Pu-Tuo as a tourist destination inevitably disturbs the serenity of the monastic life of the approximately thousand monks and nuns who live there in their monasteries and nunneries. The first objective of this research is to generate a typology of visitors, and this was done through a quantitative approach grounded in post-positivism. The visitor survey was used to construct a visitor typology. The second objective of this thesis, to address how Buddhist monks and nuns perceive receiving visitors and tourism, and their ways to manage visitors’ behaviours, is achieved by adopting a qualitative approach grounded in an interpretive-constructivist paradigm. In-depth interviews with 25 monks and nuns were conducted to capture rich contextual data of their understandings. The two objectives of the thesis are related in the sense that the impact of the visitors on the monastic community and how the monks and nuns perceive their presence in Pu-Tuo depend on the visitors’ reasons for their visits, their behaviour and the strength of their belief in Buddhism. The findings provide insight into how the concepts of ‘pilgrimage’ and ‘pilgrim’ are understood from a Buddhist perspective. The attitudes of the Pu-Tuo Buddhist monks and nuns towards receiving visitors and tourism are found to be mostly welcoming and supportive. This contrasts with the literature on sites belonging to religions other than Buddhism which indicates that tourism is perceived by religious hosts as a burden and as a threat to the sanctity of their religious/sacred sites. Yet, there are challenges created by the visitors in Pu-Tuo and these are noted by the monks and nuns. Their ‘Buddhist way’ of undertaking visitor management is found to be different from what is described in the existing literature about non-Buddhist sites. It is suggested that the empathetic nature of Buddhism is at the root of the visitor management strategies adopted at Pu-Tuo. The findings thereby contribute to the existing scholarly knowledge of how Buddhist sites are managed in the Buddhist way

The concentrations of feedstock (glucose), intermediate (acetate and pyruvate), and product (mevalonate) were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The dataset includes one ChemDraw (.cdx) file. Chromosomal integration of heterologous metabolic pathways is optimal for industrially relevant fermentation, as plasmid-based fermentation causes extra metabolic burden and genetic instabilities. In this work, chromosomal integration was adapted for the production of mevalonate, which can be readily converted into β-methyl-δ-valerolactone, a monomer for the production of mechanically tunable polyesters. The mevalonate pathway, driven by a constitutive promoter, was integrated into the chromosome of Escherichia coli to replace the native fermentation gene adhE or ldhA. The engineered strains (CMEV-1 and CMEV-2) did not require inducer or antibiotic and showed slightly higher maximal productivities (0.38 to ∼0.43 g/liter/h) and yields (67.8 to ∼71.4% of the maximum theoretical yield) than those of the plasmid-based fermentation. Since the glycolysis pathway is the first module for mevalonate synthesis, atpFH deletion was employed to improve the glycolytic rate and the production rate of mevalonate. Shake flask fermentation results showed that the deletion of atpFH in CMEV-1 resulted in a 2.1-fold increase in the maximum productivity. Furthermore, enhancement of the downstream pathway by integrating two copies of the mevalonate pathway genes into the chromosome further improved the mevalonate yield. Finally, our fed-batch fermentation showed that, with deletion of the atpFH and sucA genes and integration of two copies of the mevalonate pathway genes into the chromosome, the engineered strain CMEV-7 exhibited both high maximal productivity (∼1.01 g/liter/h) and high yield (86.1% of the maximum theoretical yield, 30 g/liter mevalonate from 61 g/liter glucose after 48 h in a shake flask).This research was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation through the Center for Sustainable Polymers (grant CHE-1413862).Zhang, Kechun; Wang, Jilong; Niyompanich, Suthamat; Tai, Yi-Shu; Wang, Jingyu; Mahida, Prithviraj; Gao, Tuo. <p>The incompleteness of author names is a well-known issue in the MEDLINE database. It was since 2002, the full author name has been systematically indexed in MEDLINE. Although many full author names have been added to MEDLINE, we still found a significant number of abbreviated names in papers published after 2002.</p>
<p>Here we built an enhanced author name dataset for MEDLINE, called EAN, achieved by linking the whole PubMed to other large literature databases and conducting a large-scale name comparison and restoration with obtained multi-sources author names. Our evaluation shows that more than 90% of author names in EAN are complete as compared to the ratio of ~60% in MEDLINE.</p>

Summarizing Professor Zhang Weihua's understanding of the bidirectional regulation function of Yongquan Point and his clinical application experience, the author believes that Yongquan is a meeting place of Yin and Yang qi, and both Yin and Yang qi are rooted here, which can be used to balance Yin and Yang, and proposes that Yongquan is the key point of bidirectional regulation, which has the functions of bidirectional regulation, bidirectional lifting, bidirectional replenishing. At the same time, Professor Zhang believes that Yongquan point should be combined with the corresponding stimulation method in the treatment of different diseases, which provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of some difficult diseases
