Das erste Jahr im Projekt „Policy Alignment of Open Access Monographs in the European Research Area” (PALOMERA)
No full textBücher spielen eine wichtige Rolle in der Wissenschaftskommunikation - besonders in den Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften. Im Hinblick auf die Open-Access-Transformation haben sich die Bemühungen von (politischen) Entscheidungsträgern und Forschungsförderern bisher allerdings weniger auf wissenschaftliche Bücher als auf Artikel in Fachzeitschriften fokussiert. Das seit Januar 2023 laufende und von der Europäischen Union geförderte Projekt PALOMERA adressiert diese Asymmetrie im europäischen Forschungsraum und erarbeitet Handlungsempfehlungen für die Entwicklung von Open-Access-Policies für Bücher.

Staff’s perception of students’ informational privacy in higher education: The case of Canvas
No full textThis study aims at discussing how students’ informational privacy in the learning management system (LMS) Canvas is perceived by staff at higher education institutions (HEIs), as well as identifying challenges arising from dataveillance and from perceptions of informational privacy themselves. The study of perceptions is based on a range of interviews at five HEIs in Sweden. While the LMS Canvas includes dataveillance of students especially through learning analytics (LA) functions that are novel and opaque at Swedish HEIs, consideration of respective flows of personal information and resulting challenges to students’ informational privacy is relatively scarce. Even though usage of dataveillance capabilities appears limited at HEIs, a discrepancy between processed data and respective perceptions among staff, in addition to rare institutional discussions, make Canvas a problematic case for HEIs. Canvas and its introduction were generally perceived as a success, but dataveillance is likely unknown to many students and thus potentially misaligned with their interests for informational privacy

Unter der Annahme, dass Bücher in Open Access Policies im Vergleich zu Zeitschriftenartikeln unterrepräsentiert sind, ermittelt und analysiert PALOMERA kritische Hindernisse für Open Access und hat Empfehlungen für zukünftige Policies erarbeitet. Der Vortrag gibt eine Einführung in das im Dezember 2024 auslaufende Projekt, fasst wichtige Aspekte von Datenerhebung und -analyse zusammen und führt durch die kürzlich vorgestellten Handlungsempfehlungen für Policies im Buchbereich

No full textDer neue Monitoringdienst pkm_nrw der vom Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft geförderten Landesinitiative openaccess.nrw stellt Analysen zu Publikations- und Kostendynamiken in NRW bereit. Der Dienst verfolgt das Ziel eine auf individuelle Hochschulen zugeschnittene Daten- und Informationsbasis für die Open-Access-Transformation in NRW zu schaffen. Das Monitoring von Publikationsvolumina und -kosten ist dabei Grundlage für eine evidenzbasierte Umsetzung der „Open-Access-Strategie der Hochschulen des Landes NRW“. Der Vortrag führt ein in grundlegende Probleme entsprechender Monitoringlösungen, beschreibt pkm_nrw und dessen Methodik und diskutiert neue Erkenntnisse über Kosten für Gold-Open-Access-Publikationen auf Basis von überwachtem maschinellem Lernen

No full textWährend vor dem Aufkommen von Open Access die Kostenerfassung für die Bereitstellung von Literatur maßgeblich Ausgaben für Subskriptionsverträge mit Verlagen oder Einzelkäufe beinhaltete, ist eine entsprechende Darstellung heute komplexer, da Open-Access-Publikationskosten teils von Forschenden selbst geleistet werden. Mit den vom Wissenschaftsrat empfohlenen Informationsbudgets soll dieses Kosteninformationsdefizit bei Bibliotheken bzw. den Hochschulleitungen geschlossen werden. Jedoch sind die Informationsbudgets erst im Aufbau, weswegen es Ziel der Landesinitiative openaccess.nrw ist die Kostentransparenz mithilfe von Kostenreports für Hochschulen der DH.NRW zu erhöhen. Der Vortrag beinhaltet eine Übersicht der ermittelten Kostendynamik in NRW und an der Universität Bielefeld, sowie eine Einführung in die Methodik der Kostenreports 2024.Da die in dem Vortrag präsentierten Ergebnisse vorläufig sind, wird von einer Veröffentlichung der Folien abgesehen
Die Registry der Diamond-Open-Access-Zeitschriften im Projekt SeDOA: Aufbauphase
No full textWissenschaftskommunikation und besonders das Publizieren von wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriftenartikeln ist zunehmend geprägt von Konflikten zwischen Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftsinteressen. Teils stark steigende Publikationskosten für Zeitschriftenartikel im Open Access sind ein Beispiel für eine Reihe von kontroversen Themen in diesem Spannungsfeld. Im Bereich öffentlicher Institutionen gibt es vermehrt Projekte und Initiativen, welche auf die Stärkung wissenschaftlicher Interessen im Publikationswesen abzielen. Vor diesem Hintergrund thematisiert der Vortrag den Aufbau einer Registry für publikations- und subskriptionskostenfreie Diamond-Open-Access-Zeitschriften innerhalb der DFG-geförderten Servicestelle Diamond Open Access (SeDOA). Ziel der Registry und weiterer zentraler SeDOA-Dienstleistungen ist die Steigerung der Leistungsfähigkeit des Diamond-Open-Access-Publizierens in Deutschland. Der Vortrag gibt eine Einführung in die technische Struktur der Registry, die laufende Registrierung von Zeitschriften, sowie einen Ausblick auf zukünftige Vorhaben. Im Vordergrund stehen dabei Definitionen, Metadaten, Datenquellen, und die Integration in übergeordnete europäische Systeme
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
