Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

This thesis concerns the development (i.e., synthesis), characterization, and evaluation of new/ novel catalyst, adsorbent, and dual-function materials for the three related processes of catalytic CO2 methanation, CO2 capture at intermediate temperatures, and the integrated CO2 capture and methanation of CO2. The ultimate goal is the capture and conversion of CO2 to synthetic natural gas (CH4), which can address both problems of rampant CO2 emissions, via capturing and converting CO2 emitted from industrial flue gases into value-added synthetic natural gas fuel, as well as the problem of excess renewable energy storage, which can take place in the form of an energy dense and reliable energy carrier (i.e., methane) through the Power-to-Gas concept. The operation in a combined integrated CO2 capture and utilization via methanation (ICCU Methanation) process through the use of dual-function materials (DFMs) can minimize the necessary processing steps and improve energy efficiency. Initially, the catalytic performance of benchmark Ni/CeO2 CO2 methanation catalysts was enhanced via the doping of the CeO2 support with Pr, with a varying content. It was found that Pr doping up to 10 mol% could act to optimize specific physicochemical properties of the catalyst, including the oxygen vacancy population, surface basicity, and Ni dispersion, which yielded a high CO2 methanation catalytic activity with a low activation energy value. Afterwards, the effect of the synthesis method of the Pr-doped CeO2 support (Ce0.9Pr0.1O2-δ) was investigated, showing that the modified Pechini synthesis method using ethylene glycol and citric acid in the absence of H2O could increase the support porosity/ pore volume, allow for the dispersion of small and medium-sized Ni nanoparticles, and further enhance the oxygen vacancy population and surface basicity, while keeping a high reducibility. These properties manifested themselves in an improved CO2 methanation catalytic activity for the catalyst prepared via this method. Then, the best performing monometallic 10% Ni/Ce0.9Pr0.1O2-δ (Ni/Pr-CeO2) catalyst, with the support prepared via modified Pechini, was further modified with low loadings of noble metals (1% Ru, Pt, Rh, Pd, and Ir). Ru was the only noble metal that could act as a promoter, by substantially enhancing the CO2 methanation catalytic activity, especially at lower temperatures (around 300 oC), in the bimetallic RuNi/Pr-CeO2 catalyst. Afterwards, a systematic study was performed regarding the optimization of the intermediate-temperature CO2 adsorption performance for different supported alkaline phases. The “Na2O” adsorption active phase supported on the Al2O3 metal oxide support was shown to be the most suitable, via the creation of a high population of Al-O-Na CO2-philic sites, and the optimal Na2O load was shown to be 12 wt%. The optimized 12% Na2O/Al2O3 (NaAl) material could function as a reversible solid oxide CO2 adsorbent during multi-cyclic adsorption-desorption experiments at 300 oC and 500 oC, respectively. Finally, the two separately optimized adsorbent (NaAl) and catalyst (Ni/Pr-CeO2 or RuNi/Pr-CeO2) materials were physically mixed together in order to prepare DFMs for the ICCU-Methanation process. The weight ratio between the catalyst and the adsorbent in the physical mixture, as well as the operation temperature, were optimized at 1:3 and 300 oC, respectively, to achieve a high CH4 yield combined with fast CH4 production kinetics. Both the mono- and bimetallic DFMs were stable during multi-cyclic CO2 adsorption-methanation operation at just 300 oC, with CO2 capture being performed under a simulated flue gas feed (co-presence of O2 and H2O). Moreover, an approach was also followed to optimize the benchmark Ru/Na2O/Al2O3 DFMs via the variation of the synthesis method and the active metal load. The Pechini sol-gel synthesis method for the support could enhance the porosity, surface basicity, and active metal dispersion in the final DFM, and lead to superior ICCU-Methanation performance. The optimized DFM was stable under CO2 capture from a simulated flue gas feed, with minor deactivation occurring mainly via surface area loss. In short, the current thesis presents novel results based on the systematic optimization of material synthesis and composition towards the combined process of CO2 capture and conversion to synthetic natural gas. It contributes and presents six independent and innovative research works, which have been published in prestigious, international, peer-reviewed journals, concerning: (a) the effect of the Pr-doping extent, synthesis method, and noble metal addition in Ni/CeO2 CO2 methanation catalysts, (b) the investigation of the CO2 adsorption performance for various alkaline adsorbent phases dispersed on Al2O3, and (c) the application of separately optimized adsorbent and catalyst material physical mixtures, as well as the optimization of benchmark Ru/Na2O/Al2O3 DFMs for the integrated capture and methanation of CO2. It is expected that this thesis will be of interest and potential use to other researchers working in the fields of material synthesis, characterization, and testing for CO2 methanation, intermediate temperature CO2 capture, and integrated CO2 capture and conversion.Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή αφορά την ανάπτυξη (σύνθεση), χαρακτηρισμό, και αξιολόγηση νέων/ καινοτόμων καταλυτικών, προσροφητικών και δι-λειτουργικών υλικών για τις τρεις σχετιζόμενες διεργασίες της καταλυτικής μεθανοποίησης του CO2, δέσμευσης του CO2 σε ενδιάμεσες θερμοκρασίες, και της συνδυασμένης (ταυτόχρονης) δέσμευσης και μεθανοποίησης του CO2.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Author Under Sail The Imagination of Jack London, 1893-1902
In Author Under Sail, Jay Williams offers the first complete literary biography of Jack London as a professional writer engaged in the labor of writing. It examines the authorial imagination in London's work, the use of imagination in both his fiction and nonfiction, and the ways he defined imagination in the creative process in his business dealings with his publishers, editors, and agents. In this first volume of a two-volume biography, Williams traverses the years 1893 to 1902, from London's "Story of a Typhoon" to The People of the Abyss. The Jack London who emerges in the pages of Author Under Sail is a writer whose partnership with publishers, most notably his productive alliance with George Brett of Macmillan, was one of the most formative in American literary history. London pioneered many author models during the heyday of realism and naturalism, blurring the boundaries of these popular genres by focusing on absorption and theatricality and the representation of the seen and unseen. London created an impassioned, sincere, and extremely personal realism unlike that of other American writers of the time. Author Under Sail is a literary tour de force that reveals the full range of London as writer, creative citizen, and entrepreneur at the same time it sheds light on the maverick side of machine-age literature.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright Page -- Dedication -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction -- 1.
