o caso do livro do conhecimento
UID/HIS/04666/2013
Authentic practical guide to travel because it provides valuable geographical and historical information about the mentioned regions, the Book of Knowledge is an excellent example of how a medieval account of imaginary travel was used as source and support for actual travel. In the landscape it represents, whose borders are largely imagined, especially when away from the ordering and secure center that is Western Europe, the anonymous author of this singular document always tends to individualize the dominant powers and their territories, offering a conception of the physical world than we can imagine representative of the Iberian man of the 14th and 15th centuries. The Book of Knowledge reveals, after all, how the Hispanic Society of the late Middle Ages already conceived the known world as a space able to be geographically and politically inventoried, and therefore able to be described and traveled.publishersversionpublishe
The cybernetic interface to the human bio computer
Norbert Weiners original definition of cybernetics as ‘messages between man and machines, between machines and man, and between machine and machine’ places interactive digital media practices at the heart of cyberculture. Whilst by this definition, interacting with machines in any way is a cybernetic act in itself, it is here proposed that interacting with machine based media , is a demonstration of virtual consciousness beyond the brain. For McLuhan of course, any medium is indeed "any extension of ourselves" and this author herself has previously argued that signification is a dynamic intermediate realm between the real and the imaginary which must be understood as a realm of invocation. This paper argues that if we can understand interactive digital media as a cybernetic interface where human consciousness and the machine are integrating, we may be then able to take more control over what we feedback in to our neurology. It is worth considering that even into old age, environmental signals trigger changes in the epigenome itself, allowing cells to respond dynamically to the outside world. In this light any proposal for 'self meta programming' may appear more virtually tangible than ever before by means of a cybernetic interface to the human bio-computer
Should CSR be adopted for Sustainable Value Creation? - A CSR-integrated Strategy Formulation Exercise for a Small Hong Kong Travel Business.
Abstract
Being perceived as the world’s largest industry by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), tourism, on the one hand, brings with it tangible economic benefits to destination markets, while, on the other hand, creating sustainability challenges that exert unsustainable pressures on the collective human race’s well-being, as well as its social systems. According to (Goodwin 2011), the phrase “tragedy of the commons” frequently appears in tourism literature and refers to the overuse, or misuse, of the world’s natural resources by inconsiderate individuals or corporations.
Since Villa-H.K have been operating in such an industry for a decade and the Maldives has long been their major destination market, they are invariably the focal point for scrutiny and ever-increasing stakeholders’ expectations. In addition, the rapid growth of the Chinese economy and low entry-barrier means that the outbound travel marketplace will inevitably become more competitive in future - meaning that a holistic strategy that enables the travel business in question to leverage on their resources and capabilities to create and sustain their competitive advantage (CA) is highly desirable for long-term success.
This management dissertation takes readers through from the big picture of global issues to stakeholder engagement and from firm-level analysis to corporate-level strategy formulation. As such, readers will be more able to get a better understanding of the sustainability challenge facing the travel industry, as well as both the risks and opportunities presented to small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Hong Kong travel industry. Most importantly, through a real-world case study readers are illuminated as to some of the problems facing today’s outbound travel agencies and provided a theoretical framework informing how a travel business can be transformed from “traditional SME” to “future-focused” sustainable business. A new value system will consequently be introduced in the hope to increase stakeholder value and maximise wealth creation.
Moreover, this research also highlights that doing business in a socially-responsible way is a must nowadays; however, the author believes the degree in which “doing good by doing well” largely subjects to availability of resources and capabilities. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Based on Villa-H.K’s humble resources, some corporate social opportunities (CSOs) are identified and proposed in the CSR-integrated strategy formulation process after stakeholders are gathered. Last but not least, a well-defined CSR-integrated strategy must also come along with contingency measures that serve to mitigate risk and diversify investment, particularly for a travel business.
Key words: SME, CSR, Corporate Social Opportunities (CSOs), Stakeholder Engagement, Sustainable Strategic Management (SSM), SD (SD), triple-bottom-line (TBL

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells in Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy
Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the most common cardiac defects that contribute to heart failure. An increasing body of evidences has indicated that DCM is a highly heterogeneous disease and its genetic trait is causative to the development of the familial cases. Owing to the lack of human cell-based model of this disease, the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of familial DCM remain difficult to be elucidated. To date, somatic cells isolated from patients with mutations associated with various diseases can be reprogrammed into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and subsequently differentiated into functional cardiomyocytes. In this chapter, the potential application of the iPSC technology in the study of familial DCM is reviewed. This chapter also summarizes the current data about genetic association of familial DCM and provides examples of successful application of patient-specific iPSCs and their cardiac derivatives as a novel tool for modeling of familial DCM. In addition, the potential usage of the human iPSCs-derived cardiomyocytes in drug screening and toxicology studies are also addressed. Finally, current limitation of the iPSC-technology is discussed.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
Cham’s decay and his results basic on Gen 9,18-19
Story from Gen 9,18-19 is showing the Truth, that a man displays propensity to the evil, which has their source in free will and weakness of human nature. Author is describing situation of Noah drunk. He is showing bigger Cham’s sin, which rely on violation rule of property and respect to father. The evil touches important relationship between father and son. The sin is bringing serious results. Person of Cham is justification of depending his descendant from Israel
A lignan-rich bioactive fraction of Sambucus williamsii Hance exerts oestrogen-like bone protective effects in aged ovariectomized rats and osteoblastic cells
9th International Symposium on Nutritional Aspects of Osteoporosis, 2015, Montreal, QueSambucus williamsii Hance as a folk medicine has been used for the treatment of bone and joint diseases for thousands of years in China. The present study aims to examine the effects of the bioactive fraction (SWC) of S. williamsii on bone in aged OVX rats, identify the major bioactive components in SWC and circulation post-ingestion, and investigate the mechanism involved in its bone protective effects. The results indicated that the lignan-rich fraction SWC is effective in protection against ovariectomy induced bone loss in aged rats and its actions might be mediated by the direct oestrogen-like action of lignan on osteoblasts.Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology2016-2017 > Academic research: refereed > Chapter in an edited book (author)bcw
