The tryptase positive compact round cell infiltrate of the bone marrow (TROCI-BM): a novel histopathological finding requiring the application of lineage specific markers
No full textAims: Compact tryptase-positive round cell infiltrates of the bone marrow (TROCI-BM) are very rare histopathological findings and may pose challenging problems with regard to the cell type involved (either mast cells or basophilic granulocytes) and the exact diagnosis.
Methods: A selected panel of immunohistochemical markers against mast cell and basophil related antigens, including CD25, CD34, CD117/Kit, and the 2D7 antigen (which is found only in basophilic granulocytes) on a total of 410 routinely processed bone marrow biopsy specimens (including 88 cases of systemic mastocytosis (SM), 20 cases of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), 92 cases of myeloid neoplasms other than CML, and 210 controls with normal/reactive bone marrows).
Results: In total, 17 cases with TROCI-BM could be identified: 11 SM (including two cases of well-differentiated SM and two mast cell leukaemias; MCL), 2 myelomastocytic leukaemia (MML), 2 CML with excess of basophils (secondary basophilic leukaemia (CMLba)), and 2 tryptase positive acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Regarding the cell types involved, TROCI-BM cells were found to express CD117/Kit in all cases of SM and MCL. In MML and tryptase postitive AML, TROCI-BM cells were found to coexpress CD34 and Kit. The basophil specific antigen 2D7 was only detected in CD34/Kit negative TROCI-BM cells in two patients with CMLba. The activating point mutation D816V was detected in 8/11 patients with SM but not in any of the other haematological malignancies.
Conclusions: In summary, a total of six rare myeloid neoplasms may present with a novel immunohistochemical phenomenon tentatively termed TROCI-BM.

Stan obrony antyoksydacyjnej w skrzelach troci wędrownej (Salmo trutta m. trutta L.) z wrzodziejącą martwicą skóry
No full textAntioxidant defence system (activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase,
and glutathione peroxidase), and free radical modification of lipids were determined in the gills
from male and female brown trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta L.) affected by ulcerative dermal necrosis
(UDN). In both males and females, lipid oxidation in the gills from UDN-affected trout showed
higher values as compared to the respective control. UDN induced an increase of thiobarbituric acid
reactive substances (TBARS) levels both in the gills of males and females. UDN caused a decrease
in gill antioxidant enzyme activities. This might be due to inactivation of the abovementioned
enzymes by the end products of lipid peroxidation. The importance of the glutathionemediated
antioxidant defence system in protection against UDN-induced oxidative stress was
demonstrated.W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących występowania stresu oksydacyjnego
w tkance skrzeli samców i samic troci wędrownej (Salmo trutta m. trutta L.) z wrzodziejącą
martwicą skóry. Pod względem badawczym skrzela stanowią wartościową tkankę, która
w największym stopniu narażona jest na oddziaływanie niekorzystnych czynników środowiska.
Uzyskane wyniki badań wykazały zróżnicowanie poziomu intensywności procesów lipoperoksydacji
(ocenianych przez poziom TBARS produktów) oraz aktywności enzymów
antyoksydacyjnych (dysmutazy ponadtlenkowej, katalazy, reduktazy i peroksydazy glutationowej)
w okresie tarła u osobników troci wędrownej zdrowych i chorych z wrzodziejącą
martwicą skóry. Pobór materiału badawczego z rzeki Słupi (Północna Polska) odbył się we
ścisłej współpracy z Dyrekcją Parku Krajobrazowego „Dolina Słupi” oraz Zarządem Okręgu
Polskiego Związku Wędkarskiego w Słupsku w latach 2007-2009.
Wyniki naszych badań sugerują istotne zwiększenie poziomu procesów peroksydacji lipidów
w tkance skrzeli troci – dla samców trzykrotne, dla samic – o 3,5 raza. Wspomniane
schorzenie wywołuje stres oksydacyjny w skrzelach ryb z inhibicją mechanizmów antyoksydacyjnej
obrony. Obniżenie aktywności podstawowych enzymów antyoksydacyjnych z jednoczesną
intensyfikacją procesów peroksydacji lipidów obniża wydajność procesów tarłowych
tego gatunku ryb
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
