Alegoria benjaminiana e alegorias proibidas no sambódromo carioca: o Cristo mendigo e a carnavalíssima trindade
This thesis aims to analyse specific artistic aspects of a selection of "escolas de samba", particularly those regarding the censured allegories during carnival's parades in Rio de Janeiro's "Sambodromo". This work unfolds the concept of "allegory" as posed by Walter Benjamin in his book Origin of German Tragic Drama, based on the fields of History and Theory and Art Criticism, in order to overcome antinomic meanings and reach the trinity composed by Cristo Mendigo#s Allegoric Car (Beija-Flor, Joãosinho Trinta, 1989); Kama Sutra#s Car (Grande Rio, Joãosinho Trinta, 2004) and Holocaust#s Car (Paulo Barros, Viradouro, 2008). Thus, the thesis uses those allegories to reflect on the unusual understanding of baroque concepts by Benjamin and other researchers# commentaries in order to outline visual correspondences with allegories of the contemporary Brazilian carnival#s arts
Fernando Henrique Cardoso e o pensamento político brasileiro
Abstract : The construction of Fernando Henrique Cardoso?s legacy has been developed based on the mark of structuring ruptures and dichotomies, characteristics that are both articulated around the idea of the transition from the intellectual to the political activity, in a process that reinforces strong features of the Brazilian political imagination. Anchored in a criticism of this view, this study investigates what the process of formation of the author?s legacy developed until the present moment reveal about the forms through which the ?Brazilian political thought? is produced and reinvented, or, in other words, what his personal intellectual trajectory represents in relation to the collective thought trajectory designated by this expression. Two main interpretative theses are tested throughout this work: the first one is that the continuity and the unity between the several moments of Cardoso?s intellectual trajectory (denied by the approaches that, until the present moment, have been systematizing his legacy) can be reconstructed and recuperated if the emphasis of the analysis lies in the political specificity of his writings - assuming that both the reconstructing and the recuperation, obviously, do not fail to consider possible inconsistencies, incoherences and changes in the beliefs of the author throughout his trajectory; and second , that such political thought , without disregarding other sources generally labeled as ?universal? , is structured from a selective, systematic and continuous dialogue with some of the main forms of interpretation of the policy in the country, this dialogue , on the one hand , makes it possible to show the existence of a worldview to act as ?common thread? for all of his thought (giving him a sense of coherence), and on the other, to understand the impact of this ressignificador thinking about such matrices. The work is organized in three parts: in the first, the field of the Brazilian political thought is theoretical and methodologically questioned; in the second part, the specificity of the author?s political reflection is discussed based on two different moments (the establishment and the consolidation of his political beliefs); and, in the third part, in an attempt of approximating the two previous parts, the specificity of the insertion of the author?s political thought in the Brazilian political thought field is discussed, which is based on two variables: the filiations and the receptions

The effect of mechanical strain on properties of lubricated tablets compacted at different pressures
A full factorial design of experiments was used to study the effect of blend shear strain on the compaction process, relative density and strength of pharmaceutical tablets. The powder blends were subjected to different shear strain levels (integral of shear rate with respect to time) using an ad hoc Couette shear cell. Tablets were compressed at different compaction forces using an instrumented compactor simulator, and compaction curves showing the force-displacement profiles during compaction were obtained. Although the die-fill blend porosity (initial porosity) and the minimum in-die tablet porosity (at maximum compaction) decreased significantly with shear strain, the final tablet porosity was surprisingly independent of shear strain. The increase in the in-die maximum compaction with shear strain was, in fact, compensated during post-compaction relaxation of the tables, which also increased significantly with shear strain. Therefore, tablet porosity alone was not sufficient to predict tablet tensile strength. A decrease in the ‘work of compaction’ as a function of shear strain, and an increase in the recovered elastic work was observed, which suggested weaker particle-particle bonding as the shear strain in- creased. For each shear strain level, the Ryskewitch Duckworth equation was a good fit to the tensile strength as a function of tablet porosity, and the obtained asymptotic tensile strength at zero porosity exhibited a 60% reduction as a function of shear strain. This was consistent with a reduced bonding efficiency as the shear strain increased.Peer reviewed
Fernando Leaño\u27s Coward
Excerpt
Fernando Leaño is among the footnotes to history, in this case the history of modern Philippine literature in English. He is so little recognized that he is not even mentioned in Valeros and Valeros- Gruenberg (1987). But, somewhat surprisingly, he is included among the writers interviewed in Alegre and Fernandez (1984, 122-23). I say surprisingly not because Leaño lacked talent but because of his truncated career as a published author of prose fiction
Fernando Cassinello Pérez, arquitecto poliédrico
The work of architect Fernando Cassinello Pérez (Almería, 1928-Madrid, 1975) rests on three pillars: architectural production focused on the design and construction of housing and hotel establishments, academic activity as Professor of Construction at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid, and research concern developed in the IETcc of which he became director, and exercised as an author of books and research papers, as disseminator lecturer, speaker at major conferences or as an active member of international associations linked to construction with concrete. This article will review his prolific activity as polyhedral architect and will find interesting works that designed and built by relying on extensive contemporary and international architectural culture.

The Sources of Quality in the Pharmaceutical Industry
This paper analyzes the sources of quality of a pharmaceutical product. After identifying eight quality dimensions, a framework of hypothetical sources that contribute the most to shape those dimensions is established. The framework, based on Garvin’s pioneering work, is applied to case studies of laboratories operating in Argentina. Framework relevance is considered using correlation analysis. Laboratories are ranked through expert opinion by the quality of its products using the eight dimensions mentioned above; it is observed that there is no perfect parallelism in ranking along all dimensions, possibly revealing different managerial priorities and uses of resources among laboratories, as well as different sources of quality and different business strategies. Correlation analysis also suggests that the study of a pharmaceutical product is a complex task when a modern concept of quality is considered. Once the existence of different quality dimensions is accepted, the following two questions are investigated: (1) Are there specific sources of quality that support some dimensions (and not others) and that are based on identifiable organizational aspects or specific technologies? (2) What are the generic sources of quality (affecting all dimensions) and in what way do they contribute to improve performance or highlight quality dimensions? It is assumed as a starting point that among the sources of quality there are generic sources, affecting all dimensions, and specific sources, which affect only some dimensions. In concrete cases, specific quality sources are identified, although the search for specific quality sources for each dimension is not conclusive. The study of generic quality sources, however, suggests that corporate systems, corporate culture, and management policies contribute to incorporate quality in a product. Thus quality results from the interaction between generic and specific sources. In the final part of the paper, recommendations for academics and industrialists are provided, as well as some conclusions.Pharmaceutical product, Garvin’s quality dimensions, quality sources, pharmaceutical laboratories in Argentina, corporate systems, corporate culture.
