Risk - adjusted rates of return for project appraisal
Incorporating risk assessment into public project appraisal makes sense when project risk is significantly correlated with uncertainty about national income. It is especially important in countries that specialize in particular agricultural or resource sectors. This report presents the following conclusions: (a) risk corrections can be substantial; (b) the intuition that risk is great for further investment in a crop or sector that constitutes a large part of a country's GNP is not invalid, but the effect may be offset by other forces in operation; (c) risk corrections can be negative because of a negative correlation between project return and GNP; (d) risk premia vary greatly across countries and sectors - so recognizing the risk correction needed for each project on its own merits makes more sense than including a common general risk premium in the rate of return required for all lending; (e) risk corrections are small for many sectors and countries - so efforts can be concentrated on the other categories, where the proposed treatment of risk makes a big difference; (f) risk affects investment projects in many different, subtle ways; and (g) resource requirements for this are not great.Environmental Economics&Policies,Health Economics&Finance,Banks&Banking Reform,Statistical&Mathematical Sciences,Crops&Crop Management Systems
Researching the Effect of Views and Feedback About Products on Customer’s Purchase Intention. Case of Shopping on the Social Media
Purpose: There has been a recent uptick in interest in studying the impact of user ratings and comments posted on social networking sites. The growth of the Internet and e-commerce sites have made it more simpler to locate and assess data, lessened the possibility of identity theft, and increased confidence in the data's accuracy. The study's goal is to determine whether or not customers' exposure to reviews and comments influences their propensity to make a purchase on e-commerce site.
Theoretical framework: In contrast to previous research that has examined the impact of user reviews and comments on e-commerce sites, the team behind this investigation looked solely at the impact of such data on media consumers
Design/methodology/approach: In a poll, participants were asked about their recent internet shopping experiences and whether or not they were impacted by word-of-mouth advertising. Then, give impartial evaluation data on how views, reactions, and eWOM affected online shopping intent

A hybrid approach combining Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS to rank agritourism destinations in Tan Cuong green tea region, Thai Nguyen, Vietnam
Agritourism is recognized as a strategic approach to harness the existing advantages of rural areas, including both on-farm and off-farm attractions. This study, conducted in the Tan Cuong tea region of Thai Nguyen, examines the practical application of the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) in ranking agritourism destinations. Five experts, all with experience in agritourism in Tan Cuong, provided data through questionnaires for the analysis. The results indicated that the Hao Dat Tea Cooperative (A1) ranked highest for sustainable agritourism development. Additionally, the transportation system serving agritourism destinations (C9) was identified as the most influential factor based on the empirical findings. Based on these results, policy recommendations are proposed to prioritize the development of agritourism across various destinations, with suggestions for both central and local policy initiatives
Onderzoek naar de invloed van onvolkomen doorlassing op de vermoeiingssterkte van een lasverbinding
De achterassen van de DAF-vrachtwagens bestaan uit twee aslichaamhelften. Deze worden door een lasverbinding met elkaar verbonden. De lasverbinding heeft een doorlassingspercentage van ongeveer 80%. Het doel van dit onderzoek is de mogelijkheden na te gaan om verlaging van de doorlassingsgraad bij een vereiste vermoeiingssterkte van de lasverbinding. Ter bepaling van de vereiste vermoeiingssterkte moeten de optredende vermoeiingsbelastingen worden bepaald. Alleen de vermoeiingsbelastingen veroorzaakt door het torsiemoment en door de dwarskracht ten gevolge van het verticale moment blijken volgens de theorie schadelijk te zijn voor de lasverbinding. Deze kunnen een mode-3 scheurgroei vanuit de onvolkomen doorlassing veroorzaken. Met gegevens van wegmetingen is berekend dat het spanningstrajekt van deze vermoeiingsbelasting 36,3 N/mm^ bij 10® wisselingen bedraagt bij een spanningsverhouding van - 1. Er wordt door DAF geëist dat de lasverbinding deze vermoeiingsbelasting met een drie maal grotere levensduur kan weerstaan. De minimaal vereiste vermoeiingssterkte voor de lasverbinding is dus op een spanningstrajekt van 36,3 Wmnf bij een levensduur van 3x10® wisselingen gesteld. Voor de vermoeiingsexperimenten zijn proefstukken van de lasverbinding vervaardigd met verschillende doorlassingsgraad. Er zijn zowel mode-1 als mode-3 vermoeiingsexperimenten uitgevoerd. Op basis van de resultaten van deze experimenten kan geen uitspraak worden gedaan over de exacte minimaal toe te laten doorlassingsgraad van de lasverbinding. Enhanced Face Recognition by Fusion of Global and Local Features under Varying Illumination
Enhancing prediction of ride-hailing fares using advanced deep learning techniques
Fare prediction is a critical component of online ride-hailing services, as it significantly influences consumer decision-making and enhances operational efficiency for service providers. Reliable fare prediction is especially important in dynamic pricing environments, where fares are affected by factors such as demand fluctuations, traffic conditions, and weather patterns. This study aims to enhance fare prediction in ride-hailing services by utilizing advanced deep learning models. Using a comprehensive dataset of Uber and Lyft fare data collected in Boston during the winter of 2018, we evaluated three deep learning architectures: Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), and BiLSTM with an attention mechanism (BiLSTM + Attention). The results showed that the BiLSTM + Attention model achieved the highest prediction accuracy, making it the most effective approach for fare prediction. However, its longer training time poses limitations for time-sensitive applications. Conversely, the LSTM model provided a strong balance between predictive accuracy and computational efficiency, making it a suitable alternative for scenarios that require faster model deployment. Additionally, our analysis identified key factors influencing fare variability – such as trip distance, time of day, and weather conditions – highlighting the importance of feature selection in enhancing model performance. By improving fare prediction accuracy, this study offers valuable insights for optimizing dynamic pricing strategies, enhancing consumer satisfaction, and helping ride-hailing platforms better manage supply–demand imbalances. These findings provide a foundation for future research exploring hybrid models and real-time data integration to further improve predictive capabilities in ride-hailing services

ASSESSMENT OF GEOMORPHIC PROCESSES AND ACTIVE TECTONICS IN CON VOI MOUNTAIN RANGE AREA (NORTHERN VIETNAM) USING THE HYPSOMETRIC CURVE ANALYSIS METHOD
the Day Nui Con Voi (DNCV) area of Vietnam. For this purpose, a spatial database was collected and constructed, including DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and a geological map. The hypsometric curve (HC) analysis method and its statistical moments were adopted to use for the assessment. These methods have been widely used for the assessment of geomorphic processes and active tectonics in many areas in the world showing promising results. A total of 44 sub-basins of the Red River and the Chay river were analyzed. The result shows that 3 curve-types such as "straight- shape", "S- shape", and concave were found; with the concave curve being the dominant and widely distributed in the northeast side and in the south of the southwestern side of the study area. The hypsometric integral (HI) values are rather small with the largest value is 0.37 and the smallest one is 0.128. Other statistical moments of the hypsometric curve, i.e. skew (SK), kurtosis (KUR), and the density function (density skew - DSK and density kurtosis-DKUR) show great values, which increased in the south direction of the area study. Accordingly, recent active tectonics (uplift-lower) in the study area is generally weak; however, they are also not completely homogeneous and can be distinguished by different levels. The southwestern side is being lifted higher than the northeastern side. The northern part is being lifted larger than the southern part. In the region, the uplift activities were increased gradually in the Pliocene-Quaternary and could have stopped at certain time in the past.
