    Dependence of Critical Current and Quench Energy of BSCCO-2223 Tapes on Bending Diameter

    This paper describes the experimental results of a test method for determining the retained critical current after double bending at room temperature for short and straight Ag- and/or Ag alloy-sheathed Bi-2223 superconducting tapes. The critical current measurements were performed after double bending samples of a Bi-2223 tape manufactured by Sumitomo with different bending diameters set to 50, 60, and 80 mm. The results allow one to determine the critical bending diameter of the tape. An experimental technique was also developed for the measurements of the quench energy (QE) of the tapes in boiling liquid nitrogen. The impact of the bending on the QE was experimentally determined through measurements performed on the same samples previously used for the critical current measurements

    Impact of twisting on critical current and n-value of BSCCO and (Re)BCO Tapes for DC Power Cables

    The development of high temperature superconducting (HTS) DC power cables requires a detailed information on the impact of the main characteristics of the cable architecture on the electrical parameters of the superconducting tapes. This paper presents the experimental dependence of the critical current and n-value of BSCCO-2223 and (Re)BCO commercial tapes on the cabling twist pitch. DC characterizations were conducted on single tapes twisted around an insulated multistranded Cu former from an actual HTS power cable having a typical diameter of 3 cm. For these characterizations, the twist pitch was varied from 5 to 25 cm. To check that permanent degradation occurred, the critical current Ic and the n-value were measured on a flat sample holder prior to conduct the twist pitch measurements on the former. The results can be used to determine the available range of wire twist pitches to help designing HTS DC power cables

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
