Biculturalism and psychosocial well-being
Biculturalism has become a widely studied topic given the growing number of individuals who are exposed to more than one culture throughout their life, for different reasons. Bicultural individuals face the burden of having to deal with their multiple - and at times conflictual - cultural backgrounds and identifications which is linked to individuals’ general well-being. These contributions will discuss recent advances on the interplay between biculturalism and different facets of psychological adjustment within peculiar social and cultural contexts, thus allowing the audience to better comprehend how different aspects of biculturalism are related to psychosocial well-being
Biculturalismo, benessere psicologico e adattamento sociale.
Applying the SCM to a specific intergroup relationship: Northern versus southern Italians
In the present study the SCM was applied to a specific and culturally salient intergroup relationship: Northern versus Southern Italians. We aimed to investigate whether the perceptions of structural attributes and their related stereotypic traits would remain the same when judgments were expressed by group members. Two student samples were recruited, one from Northern (N = 183), the other from Southern Italy (N = 182). Using questionnaires, the SCM main hypotheses were tested. Results are consistent with the model's predictions, and reflect the cultural stereotypes of the two groups. However, some interesting unexpected results were found and discussed

A Rasch analysis of the School-Related Well-being (SRW) scale: Measuring well-being in the transition from primary to secondary school
Within educational systems, promoting well-being is an essential objective along with traditional aims focused on students’ learning. However, scarce attention has been devoted to school-related well-being in the transition from primary to lower secondary school, also for the paucity of brief instruments deputed to measure it. We assessed well-being at school for fourthgraders and seventh-graders, by adapting and validating the Italian version of the School-Related Well-Being (SRW) scale, using in sequence exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Rasch analysis. Through the Rasch analysis, we transformed the SRW scale into an instrument that respects the properties of the fundamental measurement. We measured well-being and achievement emotions at time 1 and grades at time 2. The SRW scale correlated with another measure of well-being and with students’ achievement emotions. Grade-level differences emerged, with a decrease of well-being that attested a maladaptive trend at increasing age; moreover, females reported higher well-being than males. Well-being at school was positively linked to achievement. Beyond its methodological relevance, this study highlights the need for developing interventions to support students in the transition from primary to lower secondary school, which is such a pivotal time in their learning path
