The Spanish and Mexican land grants of present day Cameron County
For many years the author has been interested in the history of the land of Cameron County, especially the territory surrounding Brownsville. This interest leads to the purpose of this research study, the Spanish and Mexican Land Grants of Cameron County.
The author wanted to make a detail study of each grant but realized that such a study was impossible within the limits of this thesis. A brief history of the land grants is given up to the time of the main partitioning of each grant. These main partitions occur at different times, ranging from 1856 to 1934. After the time of the main partitions, the titles became too complicated to trace with any appreciable degree of accuracy or clarity because of the lack of uniformity in the use of the Christian names and surnames; lack of official recordings of transfers of title to the lands by the heirs of the grantees presents another problem. Two Spanish land grants, the Brazos Island grant and the Padre Island grant, are not mentioned in this thesis due to the complexity of their titles.
The author would like to repeat that this thesis is not a thorough study of the Spanish and Mexican land grants on the mainland of present day Cameron County as this would be a full-time task taking many years to complete, but with this brief sketch, maybe a better understanding can be had of the history of the land in Cameron County
Feminismo (2019) de Deborah Cameron
Feminism is a small compilation of the debates that have run through the movement, especially in the West. Narrated in a simple and entertaining style, based on compilations of different themes, studies and references, it addresses the main questions of feminism and exposes the answers that have been provided from different positions.

Cameron McRae Plummer book list, W.0087
Abstract: Contains a list of books compiled by Haunted House Book Shop owner Cameron McRae Plummer.Scope and Content Note: The collection contains one notebook with a record of books (listed alphabetically by author and by title), including information about book prices and publishers, compiled by Cameron McRae Plummer. The list also includes information about book scarcity. A few postcards and letters are also inserted in the book. The back of the notebook contains a small number of miscellaneous notes dated between 1950 and 1961; these notations mostly document the interests of individual collectors. It is not clear if this is an actual inventory of books sold at The Haunted House Book Shop, which Plummer co-founded with Adelaide Trigg, or if is a list of books to be purchased for the shop or for a specific customer.Biographical/Historical Note: The son of Episcopal minister James Fitts Plummer and Jannie Minor, Cameron McRae Plummer was born on June 2, 1904, in West Virginia. The family moved to Mobile, Alabama, in 1916, where James Plummer served as the rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church. On August 29, 1944, Cameron Plummer married Mary Frances Young.Plummer became a successful bookseller in Mobile. City directories list him as the president of the Plummer-Marston Book Company. In 1941, Plummer and business partner Adelaine Trigg founded the Haunted Book Shop, a bookstore located in downtown Mobile. The bookstore was a Mobile landmark for fifty years, closing its doors in 1991. Plummer died on February 19, 1968, in Mobile
Acute effects of quinoline and 2-methylquinoline on electrical activity of great pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis) neurons
Polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAC) are organic compounds found ubiquitously in the environment and originate naturally or anthropogenically. They are persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT). PACs have been found to modulate voltage gated ion channels in fish cardiomyocytes. Many studies have examined PACs effects, however, there is growing concern about a less studied class of PACs: hetero-polycyclic aromatic compounds (HPACs). Quinoline and its derivative 2-methylquinoline are two-ringed HPACs found in high concentrations in sediment and tissues of fishes from the Great Lakes. Studies investigating synthetic quinoline derivatives used in the pharmaceutical industry have shown HPACs modulate voltage gated sodium, calcium and potassium ion channels in cardiomyocytes of fishes and mollusk neurons. We therefore designed a study investigating the acute neurobiological effects of quinoline and 2-methylquinoline on Great Pond Snail (Lymnaea stagnalis) neurons, a model with a large easily accessible central nervous system and well conserved ion channels. Electrophysiological characteristics were measured by performing suction electrode experiments on the right internal
nerve of the right parietal Lymnaea stagnalis ganglion. Extracellular recordings before and after application of various quinoline or 2-methylquinoline concentrations were used to determine the frequency of right parietal nerve activity which we normalized as percent of control. The extracellular recordings revealed that quinoline affects right parietal nerve activity in a dose dependent manner. Quinoline caused a statistically significant effect on right parietal nerve activity at 1000 nM, but not 100 nM, and 10 nM, with mean percent of control values being 89.2 ± 4.3%, 103.9 ± 4.6% and 99.9 ± 3.5% respectively. 2-Methylquinoline had no statistically significant effect on right parietal nerve activity at 1000 nM. These experiments highlight the importance of understanding the neurobiological effect of PBT environmental contaminants quinoline and 2-methylquinoline, as well as demonstrate the utility of suction electrode recordings as an electrophysiology technique to evaluate acute neurotoxicity of environmental contaminants
